    My highlights! (I took notes while I was watching this. Times are approximate and quotes may be incorrectly transcribed.) 1:48 - Jacob appears 11:05 - "I've actually got to a stage where I can read piano rolls better than real music. Which is actually extremely sad. But I'm a millennial, so it's fine." 24:30 - shows guitars 46:10 - "These chords aren't finished, are they? We should add more notes to them. That's always the solution." Around 57:15 - corrects E that's 23 cents flat. Guesses degree of flatness exactly. Editing starts around 1:08:00 1:16:50 - Jacob shows off the foam in which "the Grammy" arrived. 1:23:00 - "You know what? Forget that idea; that was a silly idea." (on the Greek string instrument) 1:23:20 - Jacob uses his Grammy as an instrument. At 1:23:47, he remarks that the "You and I" Grammy is a slightly different pitch from the "Flintstones" Grammy. 1:24:00 - Jacob finds an unconventional way to play spoons 1:44:00 - Jacob shares some sequences he's been playing with on the Hammond organ sounds 1:49:34 - Finished product

    I stumbled across this comment while I had the video playing. And I read the line tagged at 1:23:00 exactly as he said it, no joke. I thought, "wow that's quite the coincidence," and I kept reading. That just happened to be the one tag that has a following tag just 20 seconds after, and then 40 seconds after that. So... thanks to you @Alessandro Sisti I was basically able to read Jacob's script for about a minute, literally as he said it

    This is so tremendous. We are seeing long stretches of his pure musical thoughts unencumbered by speech. As a singer, seeing his process and methodology for laying down vocal harmony tracks is incredible. The speed at which he thinks, experiments, rehearses, and records is utterly inspiring and refreshing. He is truly a painter of sound with many many brushes and many many colors who is not afraid to fill the canvas. What an inspiration for our future.

  • @timsteryt

    @timsteryt

    6 жыл бұрын

    That's exactly along the lines of what I was thinking/seeing/feeling - he was like a painter, applying brushstrokes to a canvas, but instead he was applying his harmonic genius to an ad-hoc recording that displayed his musical superiority as if it were a tapestry. I'm just convinced - Jacob is not human. At least a few dozen times towards the end of the vid I was like "Oh, he's done - it's perfect now". No, no, no... he had yet to add the container of spoons, and the grammy posing-as-a-triangle, and the jazz organ, and the 2 seconds of bass riff, and the extra .5 seconds of vocals in the middle... just makes my head spin!

    Haha similarly at at 1:33:58, with 66 tracks laid down (that I could see), he says "Oh I know what we're missing!" Hilarious! It would be absurd except with Jacob Collier, it's not. Jacob has the organizational ability to make beauty out of a seemingly chaotic amount of aural information.
