    People don't realize just how much work it takes to get a good paint job. My 1466 had the same cab and was nice in winter cold and summer heat with A/C, but hard to see out of and a PIA to line wagons up to elevator and augers due to lack of vision. We put a set of fenders on it in 2015 and it's like a different machine to run. My 966 is next in line for new paint in a couple weeks but it's an open station already so no cab to remove or side baffles to find/buy. Nice job on your 10

    Thank you. My thoughts exactly. The cab was pretty rough shape and I didn't want the cab anyways. I like them open station. Would have changed that part of the restoration for anything!

    I used it at first, but now it's turned into a farm stock pulling tractor. It's easier to leave the pump set where it is, than to always keep adjusting it for farm use. I will have some videos on here this summer. My intentions were to just have it around as another tractor, but that has changed. Thank you.

    I personally would have left the cab on it, but this tractor looks astonishing!! It looks like it just came out of the factory.

    Very low hours. It was use a lot back in the day, but sat for many years in a shed and not used. It was a lot of work the way I got it looking, but worth it. I would do some things totally different if I were to ever do something like this again.

    Any tips for painting those emblems? I've been having a lot of trouble getting the silver on the high edge of the letters to come out perfect... I've tried multiple times and each time it either runs under the masking onto the black or runs onto the white on the inside of the letters... any advise would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

    @bshoots I used a single stage Dupont paint. There are many good paints out there, that is just the one I picked to use.

  • @LuvBorderCollies
    @LuvBorderCollies10 жыл бұрын

    (a single stage Dupont paint) Was this difficult to use? Any special procedure need to be followed? Overcoat? Use a HVLP spray gun? Paint color code? I'm restoring a 460D and looking to reduce costs by doing what I can myself. Yours looks great so I'm trying not to reinvent the wheel. :-) Thanks.

    Probably way too late to be helpful. My recommendation is to get the paint & reducer directly from Case IH. Price is reasonable and the paint is durable. Painting is all about the preparation. Clean, clean, clean, then clean again. Scuff what you can, wire wheel what you can. Prime, then shoot the color. I use gravity feed guns for everything. HVLP is an EPA gun... I"ll just leave it at that. Aluminum foil is your friend when it comes to masking irregular things off. John Deere Blitz Black is awesome for axle shafts.

    If you dont mind me asking how much did the total restoration cost you without the cost of the tractor itself? The reason i ask is because i just bought a 966 black stripe that could use some tlc and i am hoping to do a full restoration.

    how much did it cost you to restore? I restored a Farmall H and that cost A LOT of money. I've got a 1568 to possibly restore as long as it doesn't cost too much. thanks

  • @oskyfarms
    @oskyfarms12 жыл бұрын

    I'm guessing around $4K. It had a cab, so had a fair amount of money into removing it (fenders, deck plate, lights, etc) Other than that, the paint was about $600 and I did everything myself.

    I think those are aftermarket decals or something. I've seen them before and yes, they just aren't quite right. The edges of the International badge should be tapered in from top to bottom, not straight and the letters are too big compared to original. Also, the 1066 badging has too big of lettering and they're spaced out too much. Still a great job on the repaint, but the correct decals would really set it off. I also prefer no cab on these tractors. How about a canopy? New ones can be had now.

    @thequietrebel420 I wanted it to look better. It was in pretty rough shape. People before didn't take the best care of it. the top of the hood was completly oxidized from the sun in spots. Wanted to take the cab off, so I had to paint the fenders anyway, so i did the whole thing. If it didn't have a cab on it when I bought it, probably would have left it original for a few years at least.
