He should be an inspiration to every aspirant. If you cannot resign from your job when morality demands it, you've lost the moral right to be in a public job in the first place!

Excellent talk, initially I started watching the video with less interest due to its long duration (2:31:47) but ended up with huge respect for sir and decision. I completed video without stop with lot of curiosity and interest. If you are able to make difference while being in the system do it continuously, but if you think that act of getting out also can make difference to the system do it also. I think he well answered to his decision to resign from the service. You don't regret decisions, you regret your inability to make that decision success. This is the highlight. Thanks Insights.

when i was reading the book by CG Somiah, "The Honest Always stand Alone" only Kannan's image could come to my mind as contemporary example of an Honest Example.. Salute to his passion for serving people.. it is unfortunate that he is no longer in service.. it is loss to service itself.

Questioning is an art and it can be easily misused by many to stop developments, if you question someone, you should also be able to give better and realistic alternate solution... Kannan sir, should himself questioned, whether universities are established for educating youth or radicalising for doing Violent Protests? Though we are spending more money in Kashmir than other states, why there is no substantial development? I WISH TO SEE KANNAN SIR, SHOULD HAVE A DISCUSSION WITH J SAI DEEPAK, instead of Students and justifying his resignation.

People occasionally misses a simple point. Difference between Right and Good. Being good is always the easiest option availbale but being right and getting things right is the hardest to acheive. What most of Humanism principle is based on the premise of being Good and subsequently most educated people like him follow the easy path of being Good. But what required for being an impactful bureaucrat is doing Right things. Althought a bureaucrat has limited power to do anything but ideally a bureaucrat should try to do the things Right. Kannan Gopinathan might be a good human being but he showed he is not the right choice for a bureaucrat.

First part of the speech was something worth, but second part seems like coming from aspiring politician. He himself say that if you have to burn your ego for the bigger goal you must do it, what he does when he get the bigger responsibility of dozens of portfolio, he just quit. Had he resigned then when he got lesser responsibility, I would have convicted myself of being wrong. It is simply the proliferation of responsibility which made him to quit in order to get better way to move forward.

Before you enter into civil service the person should ask himself or herself whether he/she want to become slave (particular political party) or servant of the nation/citizens? which Mr. Gopi Kannan realize the issue and decided to resign for not being slave. Sir i really respect your views, Definitely you are a big asset to our country. But humbly i don't agree your thoughts on Kashmir issues. I wish our country has all the bureaucrats like you, the Kashmir problem could not have come up to this level. People who implemented the policy on ground not did it with humanity and the with the spirit implicit in it . There maturity levels play a big role in it. Like you gave the example of a ssp who said go to Pakistan, for this we can not blame the government. No police is perfect in it self , how you implement it makes a big difference . If person like you would have been responsible for policy implementation in J&k from very beginning, how bad would have been the policies it would have yields the good results jai hind.
