What other major sources should one use outside of a wiki and different forums of people talking about their experiences?

The exploit with Fire's Deadly Sin and Bloodflame Blade accompanied by Bloodhound Step made me cackle. I don't think whoever made the guide has the self-awareness to understand how broken that is. I really hope the next big patch comes with so much overhaul that irons out a whole lot of the mechanics that are still unbalanced and take little to no brainpower from a player to use.

Is it confirmed an exploit? The interaction with the Eclipse Shotel was patched specifically. No word on other status effects interacting with Fires Deadly Sin.

@@Sean117343 it is absolutely an exploit, but FDS has very strange interactions that aren't easy to iron out. Trainquil walk of Deathblight was BY FAR the worst so that specific interaction was patched out, which was understandable since they had to hotfix quickly due to outcry. The trouble is that because the Bleed aura isn't actually talked out that much the devs haven't prioritized it so it's still broken.

Dev never confirm this as an exploit, also they took the time to fix Death Flare from Eclipse Shotel, and it's been two major patches since, so I believe at this point DFS with Bloodflame is intentional, unfortunately.

This will go down in history. IGN was so oblivious that it famously recommended an outright exploit of a game bug to win in competitive PvP without realizing it wasn't something that was functioning as intended. They were so dense, they thought it was legitimately how the developers intended the spells to interact with each other and told their viewers to use it in PvP. That is GOLD! I'm kinda shocked by the mount of buffs and talismans that get nerfed during PvP. It makes me wonder why they bothered including them. Why now reduce their effectiveness to better reflect their PvP versions and then reduce the massive HP and defenses of the end-game bosses so it doesn't seem like such a crippling nerf by comparison? Calling them "maidenless" for spamming roll, while using BHS to use an exploit to kill them... self-awareness really is just dead today, huh?

@@bigmanontheinternet3824 Bloodflame blade + Fires deadly sin incant. They already patched out the Deathblight version of the exploit. They forgot about Bloodflameblade though. Fires deadly sin is bugged and applies status buildup of your weapon just by walking near people.

@@bigmanontheinternet3824 An exploit is an unintended interaction between elements/mechanics within the game, having some manner of benefit for the exploiter. The interaction between the incantations in question is absolutely not intended and will be dealt with whenever the next patch comes. Using it willingly is cheating. ER's problems, which peak in PvP, are far deeper than this one glitch though. The future of the game (in the long run) is quite uncertain, especially when compared with DS3's longevity. The game will definitely continue to struggle like this. Anyone's guess what it's "final" state will be.

Was definitely not expecting fucking IGN of all channels to make the sweatiest pvp guide around.

It kind of makes sense. Their editors have absolutely no understanding or investment in the community. Scott said it best - they're mostly right about their advice being effective, but I don't think they realize that most people who play this game think that what they're doing is super toxic. The community is just out of our hands now 🤷‍♂it kind of sucks but when a game gets more popular, the old community kind of gets displaced.

@Sam 😅 IDK if people ever get tired of being shitters... I mean the gankers/R1 spammers never left DS3, people still play with Ice Rapier in DS2... DS1's community is the same as it's always been, i.e. the peak of exploit toxicity. My experience having been there for every transition except DeS to DS is that the community just changes hands and the culture changes too. Half the old guard rage quits, but the new community is bigger so their loss is unnoticed. So I really don't think these people are just gonna leave. This is why I really hope (but I do have faith) that they'll patch the worst stuff - because people never stop doing that cancerous stuff.

The Fire's Deadly Sin combo will likely not last long, especially with a platform this huge promoting it. Still disgusting, and if it's NOT patched out, then yeah, definitely worse to actively promote an exploit.

@@BenjaminBadbrother Its a 5% damage reduction in pvp. 15% in pve. Youre better off using the HP talisman +2 if you want to tank 1 more hit sometimes, or use the black flame buff or the crab meat. Those do not get reduced in PvP

Everything in this guide. "Cuz its ez. And it does a lot of damage" Here is my guide. Put 16 int on all your builds. Grab your self a dagger, and the staff of loss. Cast assassins gambit, then hidden body. And piss off all the mages.

Players who roll are maidenless... but condones/recommends BHS. This is what happens when pekple latch on to the meme without knowing they themselves are the joke. I love how this guy's guide on how to get good at pvp is literally grind levels, beat the game, and cheat. Meanwhile, I'm doing my best to improve at level 80 invasions with +17 regular and +7 somber weapons, while getting teabagged by 3-man gank squads with overleveled phantoms. The losses and teabagging hurt, yeah, but achieving victory in a 3v1 without exploits is a feeling that cannot be replicated!

Ya switching fire resist for equip load from strength would be fine. It gives heavy armor and weapon users more physical defense and poise options while the others have access to the elemental defenses.

Thats why we always have a meta level that every player sticks with if you want to do pvp. Its just high enough to get your damage health and stamina up but ignoring the other stats. So that builds are truly builds around a specific trait. Not a build that does everything

still its pretty annoying if you met a BHS on either uchi + moonveil+ Ruins/ ROB + nagakiba sets. it makes me feel like my build is not good enough. Katana in general still over tuned AF except some like Hand of Malenia and to some extent meteoric ore. I wish there is a 15-20% damage nerf for Katana ash of wars and Magic else everyone will just use them over the others.

​@@Varnsie yeah but the winning chance is definitely lower and kinda discouraging sometimes. i would go to the point not summoning any mage/katana whether they had BHS or not as of late in a duel when i am on the SL 125/301 pool. most of the weapon is fair compared any Katana/Stars of ruin build nowadays on the 125/ 301+ pool. The one that has alot more variety is on the 150-170 pool. But may be its just me or my region thing. I am fine if people use Hammer/CGS/ Heavy thrusting/UGS and other less Meta stuffs like Roar Ashes Fist / Waves of Darkness etc...because its skill dependant most of the time some are actually a very good and fun 3 minute fight. But i do keep a BHS type weapon in inventory incase some people uses it regardless of the weapon stereotype.

This is giving me flashbacks to the Verge's wonderful PC build guide.

After so many games with terrible launch PvP, we've finally reached the point where even IGN is fucking SPEEDRUNNING turning the game into an unplayable pile of shit. Y'all thought there were a lot of RoB and BHS spammers already? You ain't seen NOTHING yet.

KZreadr JeeNiNe made a perfect list of all the changes Fromsoft should make. Honestly, most of them wouldn't be that hard. If they do that, Elden Ring has really good fundamental mechanics and variety. This is definitely a case of a very dirty gem. I'm giving it a little time. DS3 was also completely saved by patches, but it took basically a full year before PvP was tolerable. I'll give Elden Ring the same time - Fromsoft has incentive to make it happen since they're gonna want to keep the hype going to sell DLC.

His critiques are of course constructive, but I think there are things behind the curtain that prevent devs from implementing things that seems good, since in a conservative society like Japan everything is rooted in studying similar, past occurrences in their recorded history so as to not repeat the same mistakes. This largely makes them averse to any risk, but when they do take risk they are absolutely confident in it so I guess things just take longer to process there?

@@monsieurdorgat6864 Those points are woefully optimistic. Fundamentally, ER is DS3 (if the AR on most all weapons was doubled/tripled on L2,) which isn't a complement. I'm very familiar with Jee and despite respecting him immensely as a player, I don't agree that Souls games fundamentally NEED to be just spacing and timing, and just deleting BHS and Fingerprint, and lowering damage isn't good enough. ER would still be missing one of the holy fighting game trinity of attacks, blocks and throws. And DS3 was "fixed" with patches? Every single patch notes was me going down the list and getting progressively angrier. Patching out cool tech like fist combos, shieldskipping and boss invasions, and adding Follower's and Murky. When I said it's only going to get worse from here, I wasn't exaggerating. If they do somehow fix things in time for the DLC, the DLC is just gonna fuck it up all over again.

Something even oro missed, is that Lusat's Staff doesn't even actually have a bonus to spell cast damage. The only passive is the bonus FP cost, which does get doubled to 200% total cost if you dual-wield them. You'll just see it having way higher spell scaling than any other once you're at 80 int...Also crystal knots are 10 points. Which we all know, except for this IGN guy

I thought I commented this earlier, but it's not showing up. If something has reduced effectiveness in PVP it's actually mentioned on the wiki. Fextra is usually inaccurate, but a broken clock is right twice a day.

If you want to say IGN is dumb for only half reading the wiki pages for info sure, i didnt even see the defense of IGN i made in that reply until a double take. I think some of the items are somewhat obvious to the values when you are looking at the stat screen before and after equipping them though.

Amazing how not 1 single dagger, hammer, straight sword, whip etc was shown. Just the most broken weapons and respective skills, poise monsters, the fire's deadly sin glitch, sorcery spam and so on. Truly an excellent way to incite healthy pvp on newer players.

Legitimately made me wanna punch something when he said it’s maidenless to “spam dodges”. And using that exploit is a great way to “catch tarnished who like to run”. Legit trash talking people trying to play the game honestly for running away from the most broken, overpowered, cheating nonsense you can find and exploit and they’re maidenless for dodging.

I think some people tend to forget why we made fun of "casuls" and take something as ign as serious to the point of roasting them. Also the exploit thing probably isn't known by casuls, since even they recomend using dragoncrest greatshield.

If this was presented as satire it might've been funny, but homeboy is completely serious. Miazaki help us, the pvp scene is gonna be even more scuffed after this.

Extremely telling that anytime he talks about tactics like parrying and blocking he only has footage of his negative iq build getting trashed by other players using those tactics against him, because he isn't anywhere good enough to pull off a parry or a similar tactic. fucking absolutely smoothbrained behavior

I think he genuinely believes that the Fire's Deadly Sin exploit is an intended game mechanic (after there were TWO other exploits related to it that were patched) and isn't aware that he's telling people to use an exploit. How does he not see that the ability to deal bleed damage just by existing is unfair?

Opaline Bubble has some use in the tournies that were done so far that were done to supposedly ease flask punish. But that's just a very specific use of it, so it's not entirely worthless.

Rune Level 209? Fire's Deadly Sin and Bloodflame Blade? I've been doing it all wrong 80int with Stars of Ruin and Darkmoon Greatsword and nothing compared to this. Truly the Meta has been set.

I've found a lot of people newer this series will level up to 200, on ps4 still getting duels it's insane

I don't think people understand the true nature of what pvp should be; honor, good sportsmanship, and the ability to have fun.

It's actually easier to invade at higher levels it's easier t invade t 200+ then 150 130 or 160 I have builds in all 4 ranges seems alot easier past 200

Yeah first playthrough I went to sl200 and all my friends I played with throughout the game went even higher, 300, 400, 500 etc. I've made more characters for different builds and endings at 75, 125, and 150 so people need to realize most of the player base don't care or even know about meta soul level PvP just like all of my friends and people are going to level to whatever and use whatever they want in the game.

This guide should have called " how to survive invasions you can't hande with" This is not a guide for pvp is a guide for a cooperative casual gamers getting melted by invasors

I'm almost 100% PVE in every souls game, including Elden Ring, and I feel like I could make a genuinely better guide just from watching Oro's vidoes.

While I don't quite agree with lvl125 as the accepted standard for duels, LVL200+?!?!?! Pure insanity! As for exploits, this is just sad. I play an arcane-faith melee build, found that it's so fucking easy to play that I had to re-spec so I could enjoy a damn challenge. I really do hope those exploits get patched out soon. Anyway, it's clear that IGN is just making a guide for the "Game Journo Special", they definitely don't want a challenge in this game that centers around being challenging. Truly, IGN is a maidenless company.

@@samuel_3874 Noted, thanks for that mention, makes sense with invasions why the sky would be the limit, I meant duels for the most part. I stopped at lvl 163, and I still personally think that can be pushing it for a balanced fight.

Duels are “agreed” at 125 because it’s an average level people will be for end game and allows for creativity with limitations. Getting too high of level just allows everyone to make a strong build without punishment for putting too many points elsewhere, that’s why everyone has bullgoat’s at 200+ because…what else are you gonna dump your points into? Lol

I really really hope that the ign guy is really just so uninformed that he doesn’t realize he’s promoting an exploit. Ain’t no way he actually went “want to pvp properly? Just cheat lol”

RoB is easy to dodge for me, but I stay out of range of the blade until I want to parry, or attack in between strikes.

What's worse about it is that it's going to be completely irrelevant in the the next patch

Maybe this is a blessing in disguise -- players who used to crutch on these "tools" will now stop using them out of fear of being called IGN shitters!!

you know... I never expected this off from an official websites who dedicate their brand over sharing tips, guides & info on other games, never thought they'd promote exploits but here we are.

Those are the same people in the arena that spam all that junk, win a few fights in a row but then run into true veterans and get thier butts kicked complaining about "roll spamming" and sending hatemail saying you are garbage/delete the game/no life ect.

"Here's my build, here's an exploit to cheat, here's the most overpowered shit in the game. Good luck sucker!" Idk man, that sounds like a pretty good guide to me lmfao, that's how I learned to play the game. Except it was me on the receiving end of it in elementary school

My favorite part is when they go over parries and show the host getting parried by a red because obviously this dude can’t parry.

I like veterans and bull goats for fashion. I use one of the tryhard sets but before it was popular, lionels head, vets chest, bull goats arms and legs. Looks goofy and I love it.

I feel for the IGN guy. I really don’t think he’s trying to promote exploiting or incorrect information, but simply doesn’t understand how much more complex the PvP systems are. He simply doesn’t know any better. Sure, he should have done his research, I will say that much. But some of this information is pretty hard to find if you aren’t actively engaging in PvP discourse online. This guy just seems like someone who played the game and took what they learned from the PvE and thought that information was enough to make a guide. Hope he gets some good constructive feedback so that maybe he feels inspired to take the video down and rework it before uploading a more accurate video.

That’s the main issue with IGN though, their staff doesn’t have the knowledge nor time to stick with a single game enough to learn the more complex systems, so you end up with a casual noob’s strategy that he picked up from KZread’s top recommended clickbait instead of a more dedicated player’s in-depth knowledge of exactly how the game’s systems function at the very base level

@@Ezzekiel73 this is what I was getting at. IGN isn’t a dedicated Souls outlet. The person that worked on this guide probably has other games to get to, and doesn’t have the time needed to properly research Elden Ring’s obtuse systems to make an accurate guide. They probably also don’t care if the guide is accurate or not, and just need to meet their deadline and move onto their next project.

While I believe that when it comes to PvE, anything goes for killing a boss... The same cannot be said for PvP.

Just wanted to say thank you so much for telling me about how powerful the fires deadly sin and blood flame blade combo is for roll catching! I hope they buff it more on the next patch!

Considering I was using those defense talismans before the IGN video...I've done the comparisons, it may be reduced, but it's still good to have one to makeup for what you're lacking. Been doing testing even now, what is the reduction percentage exactly for pvp? Edit: Just curious is all, because I've been doing a lot of testing, it's only casting buffs I thought got reduced is why.

These games will always have builds and combinations that become OP and exploitative in PVP because the balance is (and should always be) focused on the core PVE experience, but *real* guides should teach players how to approach and become better at PVP rather than just showing those strongest meta builds that overwhelm most opponents who aren't already experts.

Pvp players are the ones who stay as long as possible and it was like this since ds1 or even demon's souls. Balancing pvp is very important when the game hits its first year and further and then stop at some point.

You can balance the pve and pvp separately. It is entirely feasible.

DRAGONCREST GREATSHIELD from 20% to 5% in pvp. And that shit stays on my character since day one. Omg. What a waste. And other to 6% 😭

I absolutely love how the IGN video didn't even explain upgrade ranges OR level ranges for pvp matchmaking

Radagons sore seal doesn't reduce your health, it reduces ALL of your defensive stats by about 20 points (which is a lot). You can see what it does by looking at your defense stats from the equipment menu. If you have a low defense stats and put on the sore seal it will literally take you into negative defense stats.

@@pizza-for-mountains Reducing defense is reducing effective health. The more defense you have the less health you lose per tick of damage = *effectively* (in effect) your health is increased by the fact that you lose less health per tick.

The only reason I would use soreseal is if I need to hit a very specific stat requirement that wouldn’t be possible to reach at meta level without it. Mostly only for glass cannons.

is FIRE'S DEADLY SIN is still doing this ... why was it NOT patched yet? I hope it is not a feature of this dumb incarnation.

This was sad but hilarious. At best, this will force Fromsoft to patch these issues. At worse, the game stays like it is now. Which is fine, to be fair. The only people who will use these are either extremely casual, or "trolls". Both are easy enough to deal with. Block communication with the trolls, when the game dies down and only the PvP community is left, they'll have no one to play with except others like them. And just destroy the casuals, but make sure they know how free the kill is. I'm getting some serious DS1 vibes from the whole thing. It's not just "invading" anymore. It's full on warfare, like it was back in the day. And I kinda like it...

Now I'm debating whether this or Fextralife's Midir guide is worse. I'm still going with Midir guide, since that one requires only mechanical knowledge of the game while pvp requires more. Though using a literal exploit puts the two videos very close.

I only used that goat armor set when I made a lightning incantations only build bc most of those spells take forever to cast and I needed that ridiculous poise

Yeah for invasions for sure. Even Scott Jund said he was humbled by how much action he was getting invading at 200+ and imo 200+ puts everyone on kind of an even playing field where skill becomes even more of a deciding factor since everyone is doing ridiculous damage

I think it has to do with how many runes you get in a playthrough and that the game is still has a huge playerbase, you are gonna find more people right now at the level most people end their playthrough at, in a 2-5 year most people still playing will probably be closer to 125.

@@Crispierbug I’ll be in the minority then because I refuse to intentionally choose between survivability or damage. I take both. I hit the final cap on vigor, final caps on my damage stats and level endurance and mind accordingly. It’s just how I like to play. Most of my builds end up between levels 180-200+
