Only a fool does not know his root. I am from Igbontor Igbanke and we are not from Benin but of the Igbo ancestory. In Igbanke we have Ngbidi, ikwerre, onu iyi where Rema the music super star came from, ozo iyi-oma where our farmland are. Same language, market days, marriage rites, burial rites. Our festivals are egwu which is iwa ji, new yam festival. No Benin residents in Igbanke but come and see our Igbo families from other eastern states in Igbanke because they are in their land. Not that enogie the governor of Edo state called our reverred kings. We call our kings Eze, Obi or Ezigbon. We greet our kings, HIGHNESS! We are Igbos period!

Igbos spead all over the place you called portharcourt now(igwe ocha) ...all those people and places were occupied by generations of igbos, calabar people are also of igbo origin story had it there mother was stammering woman and her husband was a mute thats where their different tongues came. And all over the area and it's waters are called kingdom of biafra and bight of biafra.. because those living around the sea banks are prone to attacks from invaders mostly merchants slave ships, igbos had to run inward to the mainland to live together very close to each other because millions are being kidnapped and sold to slavery to Arabia, Persia, later Europe and America's because they the igbos are the most sort after slaves because of their intelligence and smartness, also because then palm oil was like the crude oil of the world then, our people shpped in theirthousands as slaves, who works in refining establishments where they are forced to refine palm seeds to its finished products, ...is such a shame that the British that first came to the area called nigeria today as merchants turned around and subjugated the indigenous people and turned them into their property. All the rail lines and roads they supervised to built then was not because they wanted us to develop it was just a route they used for transportation of all the valuables they were getting from our lands for onward loading into their ships headed to their countries.

You don't understand the context where he is coming from.. For instant in South Africa one of the biggest oldest tribe is koi kois tribe /bushmen ( or u call them bush men and they exist till today ) bush men doesn't mean they are foolish people 😊 No. It's mean they originate from the forest. So try to understand what the man is saying. As for me I can relate cos as a historian I can understand him clearly.. Bush men don't necessarily mean derogatory words. It's means ancentral origin💯👍

The word 'Igbo' means Bush in yoruba not in Igbo language. The origin of the word 'Igbo' as it denotes the Igbo people is not known. In fact, the people referred to as Igbo people today were not all known as Igbo people until the British colonial days. There were some people that know themselves as Igbo people, some know themselves as Ikwerre people, some as Ika, some as Aro, some as Ndi Olu and many others. It was the British that brought together all tribes that spoke that Language which they, the British generally called Igbo, and referred them as Igbo people. So, that brought the rancour with the Ikwerres, Omoku, Igbanke and the rest. This is because some of them already know some people as Igbo people before the Birtish. So they would not agree to be subsumed under that name. If the British had used a neutral word to describe the tribes and tongues that speaks that language they referred to as Igbo language, everyone that speaks that language would have accepted it fully.

  • @IkennaChibuzo

@chimeremezelove1041 The word 'Igbo' does not mean Bush in Igbo language. I do not know the meaning nor the origin, but it is definitely not Bush. In Igbo language, Bush is regarded as Ofia or Ohia or akwu or Agu/okofia ( forest) and rest of it. No word in any igbo dialects seems to support that claim that Igbo means Bush in Igbo language.
