Never nice to see your favorite player lose but to be fair Ostapenko showed some incredible tennis here.

But that will happen to the best of 'em. Look at those players records versus her - except Ostapenko of course who Iga just can't seem to figure out.

There's always a player or two that gives Iga a headache and Ostapenko is DEFINITELY one of those players. I'm not sure what Iga can do to stop her in future encounters. This is a bad match up for Iga because Ostapenko is a fantastic returner (when she's on). The power and accuracy of Ostapenko's shots are quite awe and inspiring.

Iga would need to show more variety to her game. She cannot outpower Ostapenko and this is what she usually does to her oponents. Unless they bring back slices and dropshots, it can be very hard.

She's Iga's kryptonite. In order to beat her Iga cannot play the style of tennis that works for her or hope that Jelena has one of her off games. I think Jelena has set the precedent for their future matches.

I love love love Iga Swaitek's game. However, if Ostapenko were ever consistent she would be the best in the world time and time again. Jelena is the most fun I have ever had watching a player. The IDGAF attitude just radiates off her racket.

Amazing return by Ostapenko was the key for decisive win, while Swaiatek's wonderful topspin shots were not much into play because the play is already dominated by the return. Quick modification of strategic services may be needed by Swaiatek to turn the flow around.

You rock Jelena...Iga has no power over you!!

Others should take note. She needs time to set up. You need a strong mind to be number one because there's always a target on your back and I don't think she has one. Otherwise her handshakes wouldn't be so surly as someone else posted.

Hmm... Did anyone notice that since this thoughtless interruption of an annoyed spectator Iga's game and concentration collapsed?

I’ve noticed Swiatek seems to not like much movement while she’s playing and Ostapenko is over there dancing up a storm during Swiatek’s serve which has caused her to double fault quite a bit in this match!

Like that the commentators let the play speak for itself.

Slightly worrying that Iga literally lost her mind after the first set. Basically. Ostapenko thrashed her from the beginning of the second set to the end of the match. Iga is at her best when she plays with a kind of carefree joy.

Thank you!!! She is a poor loser maybe her sports psychologist should school her on how to be a better loser. Noone likes to lose but when you get outplayed you can still be gracious. Poor attitude from the women's number one player.

Iga grała zbyt nerwowo. Brakowało jej luzu. Zaważył drugi i ósmy gem drugiego seta. Nawet w dziewiątym gemie mogła przełamać Ostapienko. Cóż porażki zawsze czegoś uczą. Ostapienko w meczu z Coco Gauff nie potwierdziła swojej formy a Iga mogłaby z nią wygrać. Taka już rola liderki rankingu, że wszyscy chcą z nią wygrać i grają na najwyższym poziomie. Idze teraz może grać się łatwiej bo przestała być liderką rankingu. Życzę jej hartu ducha i aby jak najszybciej wróciła na fotel liderki rankingu. Trzymaj się Iga i graj spokojniej bez tak wielkiej adrenaliny.👍

When the draw came out they were all talking about the easy draw she had. The WTA does that I believe intentionally. I remember Serena used to get much more challenging draws at the slams. Didn't even recognize any of Iga's opponents leading up to this match.

Im sorry Beverly but you are either a hater or havent seen the draw. Iga had both Jelenas (Ostopenko and Rybakina), Coco, Wozniacki, and Muchova. Sabalenka has a much easier draw, only Ons and Pegula posed any threat to her. And only one GS winner, Vondrusova.

They were saying the odds were that she should make it through. Her first three matches were a piece of cake. Plus CoCo just recently beat her after losing to her seven times.
