My car is at close to 70K miles and im surprised my dealer hasn't advised, or checked for this. I have noticed my car now has a hard idle recently and that worries me, so I do want to do this soon. Your video is the best! and answerd all of my questions. I am glad I dont have to buy the dielectric grease, if the dinan coils already have it inside. You also answered my question about spark plug spacing, im glad that you mentioned they already come spaced to Mini specifications for an OEM vehicle that isn't modified. This will make the work for me easier. Thanks!

This was literally what I was looking for 3 weeks ago and couldn’t find instructions. Thank you. Had just ordered Dinan coils and NGK plugs for my 2016 F55S Carbon Edition and wasn’t super confident on how to change the coils.

Super easy. Just be careful with the retainer clips on the wiring harness where they plug into the coils, they can get brittle with old age. Good luck with everything, in 5k miles I’ve had zero issues

I was getting noise when I started my car at 54,000 miles . Switched to these Dinan coils and right away you can feel the difference . Coil connectors didn't come off as easy as yours , I broke 2 but I was able to replace and all was good . Thanks for your video .

Just the fact you were patient, concise creating this vid I subscribe. Small note to those who have a Countryman, same exact process except there is the strut bar and cowling is in the way... the stock plugs secure tabs are(were for me) a pain in the ass that I had to use a jaw locking pliers to squeeze the tab(s) just so the connector would release from the harness connector from the coil pack ;). I might have to dab a tad-bit of dielectric grease on that for future removal and install - unless anyone have a better idea/suggestion to share ;)

I have the same chassis in my 2021 BMW Gran Coupe. Great video, I’m excited to do the same work. I just hit 51k.

No. It’s a direct replacement for oem.

Did you have to reset adaptations when changing the coils? I have heard but don’t know why that if you are reusing coils they should go back in the cylinders they came from. Thanks for the video.

I didn't and its been almost 15000 miles without any issues. Ill be changing the plugs again once i hit 20k. my scan tool has the ability to reset multiple services, and re-learn batteries, but i never saw anything about adaptations for coils. Glad you enjoyed the video.

What’s the difference from Dinah coils to standard coils ? Higher voltage ? Why the change ?!

They say "10% improvement, blah blah blah". The truth is that the factory coils are a known failure item. Holley owns MSD Ignitions, Dinan (BMW) and APR (VAG). I have used similar coils in my MK7 Golf R with success and I trust MSD / DInan to build quality products. They are about the same price as the OEM coils. So to directly answer your question, its a wear item, and i was just replacing them before they failed, using a quality aftermarket product.

My 2016 Cooper S just started misfiring this morning -_- I just did the spark plugs last November so it's gotta be the coils. 176,000kms (110,000 miles) and I've never done them haha if I just replace the coils, would I need to or how would I clear the code? (if it still pops up)

I would normally use my OBDlink CX and bimmerlink to clear the codes, you could use any standard scan tool though!

Don't no why people have to mess around with the f56 jcw ignition coils there ELDOR coils do your research on them same coils used in the Rolls-Royce Wraith 625 bhp bmw guys are running 500/600 bhp with no issues. FACTS. where are is the data to back up aftermarket coils 10% better spark?? Really because they claim.

Hey, thanks for watching my video and taking the time to comment, Eldor does make great coils. Id like to share three really quick things. - In my 2016 F56 (built in 11/2015), the factory coils are Bosch, which are a wear item known for failure. I did not have Eldor coils. - I never once claimed the dinan coils were better or worse than the factory coils. I do not have equipment to test and prove or disprove those claims, but i have used MSD coils in the past with good luck so thats what i used here. (holley owns dinan and MSD) - Like i said around minute 7 and at the end of the video, they are a wear item and recommended replacement is around 50k miles for a tuned car. I replaced mine due to age, not due to performance issues or expecting a performance improvement. Thanks for watching. Have a great day.
