In Spanish we use the word "baraja" for a deck of cards, "carta* for playing cards and for letter, "cartón" for cardboard", and I don't know the English word for "cartulina " which it's a kind of a big colored paper. We only use "tarjeta" for credit cards...or fútbol cards just like red card and yellow card. Also we say "licencia" for license, but sometimes we use "carnet. It's nice to know a lot of Filipino words. Does The Philippines name come from Spanish words, or it's a native word? In Spanish we have a similar word: "Felipe" which it's a male name like "el rey Felipe" (the king Felipe).
A lot this words are spelled digferent in Polish Like: Suprise- Niespodzianka Airport- Lotnisko Vaccine- Szczepionka

Odd how German is different with so many words when it’s close to English in relation.
@-cirad-
2 жыл бұрын
In the Germanic family, English is the language that has replaced a lot of words from French, Latin and Greek. For example (English, German, Norwegian, Swedish, Danish): surprise / Überraschung / overraskelse / överraskning / overraskelse constitution / Grundgesetz / grunnlov / grundlag / grundlov airport / Flughafen / flyplass / flygplatz / lufthavn In German there is also the words Flugplatz, which obviously is related with flyplass and flygplatz. There is also the word Luft (air), so even lufthavn looks related. English flight or haven are related with Flug/fly/flyg and Hafen/havn, so this shouldn’t look "odd" for an English speaker.
@CloudedKirin
2 жыл бұрын
@@-cirad- Well you could've just said it wasn't odd for an English speaker.
why are spain and germany always depicted as the messed up languages when Finland is just as screwed
Actually "Constitution" isn't "Grundgesetz" in German, but "Verfassung". We only call our Verfassung Grundgesetz because it was supposed to be temporary until the Federal Republic of Germany and the German Democratic Republic reunited and then edited, so that all people's representants would have agreed on the new one. However that obviously didn't happen and so our constitution is still called Grundgesetz which by the way means something like Foundation law or Basic law in the sense of being the foundation of all laws that would come after.
