If you want to Live in Thailand, you need to know this

Immigration is frustrating for some, between TM30's, 90 Day reports and annual Visa extensions it can take up a lot of time and be fairly stressful. In this video I'll give you my thoughts and also visit Immigration (Jomtien Soi 5) to do my 90 day Report.

I have lived in Thailand 13 years. Never had a problem with immigration in Pattaya or Buriram. I used to go to Jomtien to renew my visa and was never a queue after 2pmas most go in the morning. I now do my 90 days online so visit immigration once a year. It normally takes about a half hour at Buriram.

Thanks for an informative video! I have been to the immigration in Pattaya many times and I only went one time that was an in-and-out affair. I find that immigration is always changing and most usually a place of total chaos. I find it, for me, very stressful. There are so many ways Immigration could be more user-friendly and efficient. But I do love Thailand and you have to take the good with the not-so-good. That is the same anywhere in the world. Wishing you and the Missus the very best! Cheers!!

Hi there My 90 day check in took me all of 3 minutes in korat , my retirement visa not so quick , I’m in the mind that I have retired so have all the time in the world to do the visa stuff , just take everything you have with you plus a bunch of photos then when they tell you you need this or that go and get it and come back and you’ll be fine, hand over your 1900 baht and all should be well , don’t get angry or upset with the officers that will only cause you more problems , you do NOT need an agent , you are wasting your money , I’ve heard prices ranging from 30 to 60 thousand baht , £750 to £1500 , for a £42 visa , good luck to everyone when you go to immigration Regards Davy 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🇹🇭

Although I have been to that Immigration office a couple of times myself, I later started using an agency to go for me. It saves me the trip down there and back, cost of taxi or baht buses, saves me a few hours and filling in forms etc. Also, I know for a fact that the agency I use is trusted by the Immigration office and they have contacts in high places. Nightmarket : did it a few times just to check the food . Did most of the restaurants in soi 5 . Best was the French ' au bon coin' . Maybe not something for Nong , typical French and its not open every day , and menu is day by day . In the end of those 3 months I had 48 different resto's done & 129 visits , 77 western food, 43 Thai , 3 Indian, 4 Japanese , 1 Mex and 1 Korean. Glad you filmed the bike ride , since I did it also on a rented bike and just used the smartphone which gives me problems because the landscape mode I can't get it corrected on tv through streaming . Immigration : tried it 2 times to be confronted with over 100 persons waiting , so 3rd time I had the agency located left back to handle it. As usual ' you pay and it gets fixed '...no waiting.

I am in Nakhon Phanom, immigration is always very quiet, 90 day reporting can be done every time online, you automatically get the first one with the visa. You have all your visas mixed up to the O visa is 90 days that allows you to open a bank account, you only need money in bank for 2 months for the first visa then it need to be in for 3 months every time you renew, retirement visa is AO, you need 800,000 B in bank for this one but you can also get a marriage visa if married and only need 400,000B in bank. No agent required folks it is simple to do and like in the video it only costs 1,900 B and nor about 20,000 the agents charge.

I try to make Mums life here as stress free as possible, so she can enjoy her days out with friends. She can't imagine ever being back in Scotland. For your age (and my Mum's) insurance is one of the bigger issues. To avoid the compulsory insurance requirements it's best to arrive as a tourist then convert to an O visa. I was thinking about an 'O' visa due to me not being able to get medical insurance but I think the Elite Visa (20 years) might be the one for me. Still saving for it lol. What do you think about the Elite Visa? I would love to have your opinion on it. Is it really expensive to use an agent to get an 'O' Visa? I would not need them to facilitate funds for me. Sorry for all of the questions mate but you are the only person who has done a good easy to understand video regarding visas and immigration and I really value your advice and opinion. Hey Ozzy, hope you are well. I believe the Elite visa is great for those under 50, but for the over 50s it is an expensive option. If I was doing it I would come over on a tourist exception. Then immediately get an agent to apply for an O visa. The issue with doing the first one yourself is the bank account. Allow between 15,000 and 25,000 for the agent. They in return will give you a 3 month visa followed by a 12 month O visa. During that 12 months you need to satisfy either the income or cash deposit rules to allow you to apply for your annual extension at a cost of 1900 for the visa and 100 baht for the bank letter. I will try to cover off more in a future video 🙏🙏

Efficiency and Civil Service departments are two polar opposites! In the private sector you MUST get more and more efficient if your company is to stay competitive and you keep your job. Public sector jobs would be reduced if operations got more efficient, and also less people would mean more work for the remainder! So,....... ineffciency and frustration are the name of the day! I have tried the online 90 day registration about 4 times in 3 years, and it NEVER worked! Again, maybe that is the plan of the civil service!

It's honestly one of the things that really puts me off long term retirement in Thailand. Here in HK where I've lived for 31 years I had a 2 year work visa ( x3) for the first 6 years before getting my permanent ID as everyone does year 7. Free and straightforward and I now enjoy all the legal rights of someone born here. For example even if I commited a crime that necessitates a custodial sentence I could not be deported. I think the 30 day thing in perpetuity would do my nut in.

@@DavidAndNong Sorry meant 90 days that was a typo but you're quite right to point it out. But honestly 30 or 90 and my point still stands. I mean it's not like you arrived in Thailand yesterday David and you've bought property there are married to a local and have other family there and yet all this time later you're still doing the 90 day thing. Which presumably isn't because you enjoy it so much you turned down the offer of longer visas 🙄 There's another guy in the comments whose 12 years there now and on the 90 day thing. I know longer visas do exist if you invest or tie up substantial funds etc, but I'm just saying HK, Singapore ( like the UK, US and many other places ) offers a route to citizenship after a number of continuous years of residence which Thailand does not.. It doesn't seem terribly welcoming to expats in terms of officialdom.

13 years and never a problem. If people can't fill in a simple form correctly, I don't know. I go to immigration once a year at Buriram and am normally on my way home in 30 minutes. 90 days I do on the internet which takes minutes to do once you have registered.

You are limited on the number of times you can enter Thailand on tourist visa free entry, 30 day (was 45 for about 6 months), however it is at the discretion of the immigration officer, I was coming every 5 weeks for 30 days, I did this for 5 years no problems, then I was advised by immigration officer to get a 6 month tourist visa for my next visit, I did and after it ran out I just went back to the normal visa free 30 day. They used to ask why I came into Thailand so much, but were always happy with my explanation. But in short yes they can stop you coming in if you have exceeded the visa free annual maximum.

Living in Thailand you soon learn that the inefficient bureaucracy is just something you have to live with. Having said that the majority of my interactions with the officialdom has been bearable during the last 14 years. You need to get rid of your western mentality and understand the Thai way of doing things to avoid any stress.
