    The difficult parts are the kataka ones. While I listen I think they are words that I'm missing but all of them end up being things like "afternoon tea" 🫠 The rest was easy although a bit difficult for me because I haven't really practiced since I passed the N5 exam.

    What surprises me is that I actually understand everything easily. I mean, sure, I play lots of japanese TCG like union arena and OPTCG, and both are using japanese cards here in asia region, but I expected myself at some really low beginner level. The only reason why I can read and translate japanese cards is because they use furigana on top of all kanji after all. I suspect that this isn't the actual test for N5. I can't be that good. And of course, I suck at speaking.

    Yooooo! I just realized that I'm not translating as much in my head, I can just understand what is being said. I'm far from being able to speak Japanese and even farther from organizing the sentence structure correctly, but I understand the words that she is saying. Out of order, yes, but I can infer what is being said. For those who are having a hard time writing and listening to Japanese "speak out of order" compared to English, it starts to make sense after a while. It's taken me 2 years of non serious studying to finally get past understanding the sentence order. I don't worry about translating the sentence in my head; I just listen for what I understand now.

  • @johnlawrencetamio4381

    @johnlawrencetamio4381

    Ай бұрын

    Same here. I was like "Why can't I translate it?" even though I understood most of it. Then I realized it's because the translation is reversed! Translating Japanese to English requires you to listen to the whole sentence before you can start translating it since the translation is often right to left, otherwise your translation will be "out of order" just as you said. Trust me, if you want to be able to understand Japanese, translating is unnecessary unless you want to be a translator or an Interpreter. Whatever you are doing, keep doing it because that's what I call natural acquisition. 2 years is a long time and you are on the right path. Just a friendly advice, if you are not studying seriously, try to study N4 or N3 grammar from time to time. It helps in sentence construction and future understanding. Also, don't forget immersion. いつか、必ず日本語を理解できるようになりますように。 一生懸命頑張りましょう!

    I really like the English subtitles. Sometimes when I'm using a program to learn Japanese, the English translations are "what they mean to say" vs what they literally just said in Japanese. I get they want the English to be more like what a native English speaker would say, but It can be confusing and it slows down the learning process for me. So I appreciate your subtitles actually say what you're saying in Japanese. I hope that made sense.

    Holy crap, I've actually been learning something and this has been a big boost to my motivation to keep going! I can learn Japanese, I can do it! Having something like this to help me realize the progress I've made is so helpful!

    I understood at least 70% of it the first time! This is great encouragement, and also reminds me that I really need to work on my verbs and grammar!

    I really love this, instant subscribe. I hope you have more of these. I am not N5 level but from the minimal studying I have done combined with my watching anime I could understand words and bits and pieces which is really motivating! Thank you!

    Mochi Sensei, please, make more videos like this. It help us to improve our listening by hearing a native speaking. It would be good if sometimes you’d make a video using 敬語、丁寧語 and 尊敬語. Thank you very much for your kind help on teaching Japanese.

    As someone who has been learning Japanese for about a year and a half now without any formal testing, I was really worried to click on this video in case I wouldn’t be able to actually understand it. I’ve had a very atypical learning journey, so getting through all 3 sentences with maybe 1-2 words each I didn’t get on the first try was a huge confidence boost! Thank you for the incredible video, and I look forward to seeing a N4 version if/when you make it! 一年半ぐらい日本語を勉強している人から、この動画はちょっと怖かったです。「何も知らなければ、どうしよう?」と思ったけど、これはすごく分かりやすかったですよ!僕の自身がちょっと増えたから、感謝しています! もち先生、ありがとうございます!

    Definitely not ready for N5 but I could carry along with the gist of what was being said. Afternoon tea, and Four Seasons threw me a little. Really appreciate this N5 focused content, thank you!!
