    We understand your frustration. Perimenopause and menopause are rarely discussed, leaving women feeling ashamed and confused about this significant life-changing phase. Compounding the issue is the medical system's lack of training and dismissiveness in diagnosing and treating symptoms. Thanks for tuning in and learning your insightful comment. Thank you for telling your story, I can relate very deeply. (I’m 52 and in the midst of perimenopause for the last several years) When you said “women learn from an early age to carry on, unless you’ve left a limb behind…” OMGoodness, you nailed it!! That is what we do, and it needs to stop with our generation. The only way to do that is education and discussion. Thankfully I see that we are so much more educated then my own mother was. My own daughter will have such a head start in comparison to what we had. Bless you you for sharing.

    I bled for five months solid after getting an IUD and eventually my body rejected it. At the end of my IUD journey, I ended up bleeding for four hours solid sitting on the toilet in the middle of the night until it finally fell in the toilet. Definitely not for everyone, but I have heard glorious wonderful stories from the people who it actually works for.

    Jenna...*hugs*...thank you for sharing your experiences with us. I love how honest & real you described everything. It was like listening to my best friend. I used to have periods that looked like a crime scene. Seriously. The IUD I had put in when I was 46 was a miracle. I'm 54 now & still going through perimenopause. Your symptoms are so similar to mine & some of my friends. I'm afraid to have my IUD removed because I don't want to have heavy periods anymore or get pregnant (my youngest child will be 30 this year!). I haven't quite reached menopause yet & I am so jealous of the freedom you feel now. I can't wait to be there. I am currently a perimenopausal hot mess of horrible symptoms which are combined with Fibromyalgia. But one thing I have not had to deal with since June 2016...vaginal hemorrhaging. That's what I had been calling it for years! Not a period...I called it 'Monthly Vaginal Hemorrhaging.' OMG...your description of the internal ultrasound...😂. That's what I call it...the ultrasound dildo...with a condom on it. 😂 Anyway...again...thank you so much. You rock! 😁

    Definitely a thing to consider, I am going through the same right now. I told my daughter that to bleed this much under any other circumstance would be considered a crime scene. So I definitely relate to your story. The fact is that I have been going through all this since I turned 50 and am now 58 still suffering through menapause issues. Or at least that is what I am calling it. I refuse to let doctors dictate anything for me. I haven't had the greatest results in life listening to them. I went years without them recognizing that I was suffering through lymphedema and finally was diagnosed and told what I could do for it years later. So, you can understand where I don't trust doctors, or even. women doctors at this point. But other women talking about their experiences makes me realize that I am not doing this alone or that I am not the only one to have experienced it. So thank you for sharing.

    Mother of 2.. the kiddos are now 25 & 26, grandmother of 2, 3yrs & 10mths, 45yrs old, 3rd year apprentice builder carpenter. Many challenges in life but always had a great relationship with my body! Then somewhere along the way I became aware of a disconnection.. we weren't in sync anymore & I wondered what I was doing wrong or differently.. weight gain, anxiety.. which had never really been a thing for me.. withdrawal.. and I've always been a socialite, though also very content in my own company.. but many things were feeling odd & out sorts. I'm not one to go to the doctors on the regular for things I can treat at home.. but things started happening I couldn't explain or remedy. I must be depressed, you've got too much stress in your life & in more recent times, it's your new normal & you have to get used to it. So much to do with women's monthly cycles & menopausal experiences seem to have had & having what feels like a taboo approach, which is a little disappointing. I dont really understand why these things are silenced or swept under the rug as if unimportant & disgusting to talk openly about. Also the lack of uptodate information from our medical providers. Finding people, woman who are speaking their experiences & voicing for others is such a relief. Thank you Thank you Thank you ❤

    We understand the feeling when you no longer recognize yourself and something feels really off. It's incredible how perimenopause brings both physical and psychological changes. I wish I had known about how the IUD can help that heavy bleeding. When I was in perimenopause, I had the "crime scene" bleeding and huge clots. I had regularly timed periods but along with the blood and clots came urinary incontinence -- just during the periods. It was a nightmare. I had to sleep with disposable pads under me, like the ones that I put out to potty train our puppy. I always wore black pants but had to often change my clothes 2-3 times a day. I always had spare pants, underwear, and enormous heavy-duty night-time pads handy. On my first and only first-class flight, I was in the middle of a period. When I got up to gather my things, there was a puddle of blood and urine on my seat. Talk about mortifying. I cleaned it up with a blanket and baby wipes that I always carried and stuffed them in a plastic bag on my way out so that hopefully nobody would see. I don't think anybody noticed but I made a bee-line for the airport restroom to change. It shouldn't have to be that way. I haven't had a period for over a year and I'm so happy to have my life back.

    I am bleeding so badly rn. I'm passing clots the size of oranges and I've bled through my clothes twice today. I need help. I started with two heavy periods a month. My gyno started me on HRT 50 estrodiol patch and 100mg nightly of Prometrium October 5, 2023. She suggested the Mirena IUD. I had a terrible experience with the Mirena about 10 years ago. I had it for 9 months and I bled everyday that I had it in, cystic acne, migraines... The only reason I kept it in so long was because it cost $500 so every month I would say one more month hoping things would improve because my gaslighting doctor kept telling me it would. Fast forward to recently my gyno said she would give me one at no cost. She said hormones change and it would be worth a try. I agreed and had it inserted on October 18, 2023. She told me to stop the Prometrium that I started on October 4th. I was bleeding when I had it inserted. I have bled everyday since. I held out 7 months and had it removed on May 17, 2024. I started on 100mg of Prometrium nightly again. My Estrodiol patch was increased in December 2023 to a 75 patch because I was still experiencing vasomotor symptoms plus migraine. I was having 15+ migraine and headache days a month. 50 estrodiol patch decreased my migraine days but 75 has been a huge improvement. A couple weeks ago my gyno suggested trying a new patch Estalis 250/50. She thought the increase in progesterone would help with the bleeding. Of course I am willing to try anything to stop bleeding. I didn't look into Estalis. I presumed that all patches were made with bioidentical hormones. Sadly the Estalis combi patch is a progestin NOT progesterone. Attaching a picture to show what happened to my face within a week. I started the patch on a Monday by Wednesday the following week my face had cystic acne all around my mouth and I had a migraine that lasted Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and another on Sunday. I compteplated putting the Estalis back on last Monday on change day to give it another week. It did decrease my bleeding to spotting a couple days but I couldn't do it. The migraines are debilitating. I thankfully had some 75 estrodiol patches so I put that back on and called my gyno to say I couldn't do the Estalis. She called me a prescription in for the 75 patch and I started on 200mg of Prometrium nightly. I have been bleeding heavily since. What a mess. Because the gyno made the choice to start me on HRT and the IUD at the same time I don't know if my bleeding is from the HRT or the Mirena IUD. I had the Mirena removed 2 months ago but have read testimonials from women that it took some a few months to completely rid their bodies of the hormones from the Mirena. I can't remember how long it took to stop my bleeding last time I had it removed. Some women are telling me that my bleeding is from the HRT. The only way I can know is to completely stop everything and go through the Hell of my migraines and symptoms returning. My workplace is not understanding at all. They took an entire day a week from me last year without consultation. When I asked they said it was for missed days. I only missed 4 days of work in 10 months. I had to work many many days with migraine. The 4 days I missed were because they were unbearable. I got the day of work back because I fought for it. I don't want surgery either. I'm scared. I literally have the worst luck of any person that I know.

    I got the IUD inserted 3 weeks ago and the bleeding has finally stopped! I am so thrilled! I wish I had done it sooner! The little bit of pain to put it in, makes the results well worth it! Also, if you are on the fence, wondering if you should call your doctor or not sure if this is a normal aging thing, don’t wait. I’ve been dealing with this far too long and I’m so glad I had my doc refer me to OB/GYN to get ruled out for any serious issues (thankfully none). I’m not even near menopause yet according to my FSH levels. My thyroid was to blame for all this hormonal BS but now that’s under control and the IUD will help all the way through menopause hopefully.

I'm not registered for a start, and it's too hard to get an appointment anyway, and even if I jumped all these hurdles and I finally got to see one I've never found one that is actually helpful in the past, so what is the point. Many (many) women experience extremely heavy bleeding during perimenopause (35-51 roughly) and if it is causing you to have a lower quality of life then you deserve care to reduce the bleeding. You also need to make sure they screen you for female cancers at the same time. Fingers crossed you get some solutions and relief. Thanks for watching and hugs from Herstasis.

  • @herstasishealth

    @herstasishealth

    11 ай бұрын

    Sorry for the delay. Here are answers to your questions directly from Jenna: IUDs can cause spotting, although it didn't for me. It is a possible side-effect though, so be aware - your doctor will go through all of the possible side effects. And remember, an IUD is easy to take out! Once the IUD was in place, my period stopped completely. It was wonderful. The only downside was that I didn't know exactly when I started menopause as the sign for that is no period for 12 months. The internal ultrasound was looking for other possible causes of the heavy bleeding (like fibroids). The ultrasound didn't show any other medical issues, so it was clear to insert the IUD. I hope this helps! An IUD was a literal miracle for me.💕

Like bright red blood dripping down my legs (of course I was wearing shorts) it was embarrassing needless to say, I had to go buy some extra shorts fast. And now today, I’m so exhausted. I will contact my doctor but has anyone experience this. I have a IUD because at one time my bleeding was so heavy I couldn’t do anything the first few days of my period because I would bleed out, so since my IUD my periods have been light and easy. This really sounds like you should go to see a gynecologist if there is one accessible in your area. IUDs do have a "lifespan", and you may need another one. See for example: "Hormonal-based IUDs have varying lifespans, depending on the brand. Some brands can prevent pregnancy for up to 3 years, while others work for up to 6 years. After this, the person should ask a doctor to remove the device." www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/314272#when_to_remove

    My periods were also a horror show. I was offered and scheduled a hysterctomy but I did not feel good about removing another organ from my body (thyroidectomy and non-working pancreas as a type 1 diabetic). I decided against it and got an IUD and a few rounds of IRON infusions. I did get the IUD about 3 months ago and my last period has been about 6 weeks long but now no where near as heavy. I also (pre-IUD) bleed on a chair at a meeting where as a parent representive for my son's elementary school. as wasthe few other parents, an honored guest. They had prepared a beautiful buffet spread and asked the "parents" to go first. I was in horror. I knew I had bleed all over the chair cushion and on the back of my pants in less than 45 minutes even though I had on an over night pad - essentially a diaper. I made up an excuse to the other school staff at my table and asked them to go ahead of me. As soon as people were distracted enough to not notice me (as much) I ran out to my car. When I stood up, just like you said, the cushion was red. It was horrible and I was mortified but I had to just GO. I sat in my car completely humiliated and called my gynocologist office. At that point I had had my period for 7 consecutitive months and it only got worse as the months continued. I also passed very large blood clots that were so large I had contractions. This is at age 46, I'm now 47. Thank you for your story. it's nice to know others understand!
