If You Own BX watch this Video: Fuel Filter Upgrade

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Here is a video of why and how you should upgrade your Kubota BX fuel filter. Clogged fuel filters from icing or other debris are a common problem on BX's. This upgrade is great for other small diesel engines too.
Here is a video of the bracket I made and I also show pinch of tools for servicing the filter.

    Great job! The second filter closer to the injection pump is never dirty so I would delete the filter that you can’t get to . All the older Kubotas had water separator bowls with a filter element. Hey let’s use 2 air filters and the first filter that filters 99.9 of air almost impossible location lol thanks for your great video!!!

    Nice video, and great info. I’ve dealt with this issue on my BX25D one too many times. I definitely am going to upgrade this factor nightmare. Last time the ‘stealership’ cost me $450 dollars because fuel filters aren’t under warranty and then added a battery and tractor wash to boot. This was at 75 hrs after I changed both filters at 50hrs. Now I have 101 hrs and it’s Déjà vu. Errr!

    That was a heck of a charge for little bot of work, unless that included pick up and delivery of the tractor. Here is a video I recently did comparing a Racor to a copy. You can buy the copy, and put a racor filter on it and still be less than a racor. kzread.info/dash/bejne/q2Z20cWhacTJm7A.html

Then I put a Racor on the BX23, so I did video on that since it had a loader and a slightly different bracket. Watch ebay for the filter. I got a deal on mine. I'm pretty sure it was mil surplus.

    I did this with my BX2360. I took both of the stock filters off and replaced them both with these racors. It works better than the factory setup in cold weather (here in upstate NY, things just warmed up to 11*) but I still have problems with gelling. I am treating the diesel, running close to 50/50 diesel/kerosene and still have problems.

  • @TractorTech

    @TractorTech

    3 жыл бұрын

    If you are having problems with gelling, I would try buying fuel somewhere else. Be careful mixing that much kerosene in. That will make the fuel dry and may harm in the injection pump. Check and see if there is a place that sells a "winter" fuel. Have you tried an additive? I have used Stanadyne in the tractors, Optilube XPD in my truck with no gelling problems. I am going to use Optilube in the tractors too, I had finish using up the Stanadyne. Howes and Powerservice do not live up to their claims.

    I usually get my diesel from the local gas station which I assume, being in upstate NY in January, is selling winter diesel. That said, it is not marked that way. I will check out a few places around that sell winter diesel to the local equipment operators and farmers. They seem to have no problems. I did drain off about 1/3 cup of water recently so maybe it is just bad fuel? Yes, I always treat my fuel starting around November. I have used Howes and Power Service white, with no luck. I just bought some Peak Blue this week and changed the filters, we’ll see how it goes. But it’s very frustrating because this is when I really need the tractor running!

    My 1880 is 2 years old now and this is the 3rd time watching!👍 I don’t use mine in the winter at all and I add plenty of non gel starting before my last couple of uses. I was planning on changing both original filters this winter after only about 200 hours on them. Do you think I should do this upgrade? Without me looking it looks like the first filter, filters for the fuel pump. Am I correct? Thanks for so many great videos!! U do a great job of explaining!!!

  • @TractorTech

    @TractorTech

    2 жыл бұрын

    If you don't use it in the winter, you will probably be fine. If you OCD and want to have super clean fuel you can do this upgrade for around $100. The big thing is buy clean fuel, have clean cans, and store the cans inside. I did all of that and I still had icing issues. For your uses, something like a racor Mr. Funnel may be good to have. You could pre clean the fuel to reduce the risk of a fuel filter issue.

    Standard fuel filter is 50 micron? I have had seven fuel pump failures before I discovered what was the issue. My fuel had been contaminated with a very fine suspended grit, which eventually impeded the pump piston. Since the pumps are not servicable, there is no way to clean it. When I disassembled the failed pump, the inside appeared spotless but the piston dragged. I have since upgraded the pump from 3-5 pound pressure to 6-9 pound pressure and will install a finer filter.

    If you look up a Wix filter that is for a BX it is 50 microns. I would say it meets the OEM specs.

Does this filter housing have a valve to isolate the filter when you replace the filter or do you still have to pinch off the line?

    94Bullitt: I am curious about the flow of diesel flow when the new filter is installed. From what I see, the new fuel line is run from the fuel tank to the "in" on the Racor, new fuel line from the "out" of Racor to the suction side of the lift pump, and then fuel line on the exit side of the lift pump all the way to the secondary filter up by the injection pump. Is that correct?
