If You Forget Me by Pablo Neruda (read by Tom O'Bedlam)

Another of Pablo Neruda's simple love poems. The feelings he portrays aren't particularly laudable but they are very human and touching and realistic, reflecting what most people would feel...
The walking tree is a 3D image from Tom Troceen's site:
www.tomtroceen.com/3d/my-intru...
The flower at the lips is a desktop wallpaper:
www.arts-wallpapers.com/Deskto...
The posy at the end is a bunch of forget-me-nots.
If you forget me
I want you to know
one thing.
You know how this is:
if I look
at the crystal moon, at the red branch
of the slow autumn at my window,
if I touch
near the fire
the impalpable ash
or the wrinkled body of the log,
everything carries me to you,
as if everything that exists,
aromas, light, metals,
were little boats
that sail
toward those isles of yours that wait for me.
Well, now,
if little by little you stop loving me
I shall stop loving you little by little.
If suddenly
you forget me
do not look for me,
for I shall already have forgotten you.
If you think it long and mad,
the wind of banners
that passes through my life,
and you decide
to leave me at the shore
of the heart where I have roots,
remember
that on that day,
at that hour,
I shall lift my arms
and my roots will set off
to seek another land.
But
if each day,
each hour,
you feel that you are destined for me
with implacable sweetness,
if each day a flower
climbs up to your lips to seek me,
ah my love, ah my own,
in me all that fire is repeated,
in me nothing is extinguished or forgotten,
my love feeds on your love, beloved,
and as long as you live it will be in your arms
without leaving mine.
Quiero que sepas
una cosa.
Tú sabes cómo es esto:
si miro
la luna de cristal, la rama roja
del lento otoño en mi ventana,
si toco
junto al fuego
la impalpable ceniza
o el arrugado cuerpo de la leña,
todo me lleva a ti,
como si todo lo que existe:
aromas, luz, metales,
fueran pequeños barcos que navegan
hacia las islas tuyas que me aguardan.
Ahora bien,
si poco a poco dejas de quererme
dejaré de quererte poco a poco.
Si de pronto
me olvidas
no me busques,
que ya te habré olvidado.
Si consideras largo y loco
el viento de banderas
que pasa por mi vida
y te decides
a dejarme a la orilla
del corazón en que tengo raíces,
piensa
que en esa día,
a esa hora
levantaré los brazos
y saldrán mis raíces
a buscar otra tierra.

Again I am speechless......I want to listen to that voice forever and ever,,,,,,and I will create a enchanted monument for him in the hanging gardens of my Celephais...and whenever someone sits in the shadow of that statue of an unknown man and wants to be calmed, soothed or just entertained his voice will be heard reciting the poems like he does here. I hope he forgives me for my impertinence but I had to do something to make him immortal in my world.....even if it´s just the one in my head.

that part is so true when it comes to speaking on the conditions of people and this reality, how everything in the universe is quite reflective, like there is a constant responsibility of control that we all have over creating our reality that at times is not quite a luxury at all...

...and you learn, the saddest way, that true love only comes once and is not an analytic process. ...and you learn, the hardest way, that people choose to confuse love with attachment; or worse, attachment with "love", out of the fear to burn the broken bridges and break free ...

The Comments section of the "Here I Love You" video is disabled. I just wanted to say that the brilliant choice of illustrations, perfectly matching the words of the poem, gives a touch of magic to what appeared to me to be a trite piece. Your reading helped too!

Olulu Whatsup This poem is in "Los versos del capitán". I recommend you to listen to it in spanish in the voice of Jaime Sabines, a mexican poet whose poetry is as beautiful as Neruda's.
