If WWI Never Happened, The World Would Look Like This

Ойын-сауық

Can you imagine if we never landed on the moon? Or if no one had died from the Spanish Flu? Without World War I, a lot of things might not have happened.

If Kaiser Wilhelm II hadn't been born with a crippled arm, he never would have had the inferiority complex that influenced his decisions when the WWI scenario approached.

A major conflict was inevitable. The Balkans had been restive for twenty years before the war. If Franz Ferdinand had not been assassinated, a European conflict would not have developed until the 20's. As for the Spanish flu; It would have happened eventually. The war just gave a better opportunity to spread.

I don’t see how the war was avoidable. There was too much competition and militarism between the European powers to escape the conflict. I can’t see Europe’s map looking now like it did in 1914. The Russian Empire was going to collapse no matter what and the chaos would have destabilized the Continent.

Arch Duke Ferdenez escaped the bomb. Instead of hiding, he chose to visit injured people at the hospital. His driver took a wrong turn and happened to run into Gavrilo Princip by pure coincidence. WW1 absolutely could have been prevented

It's likely that no one now alive would ever have been born. The existence of any particular person is the result of innumerable entirely random events, and someone from our reality brought to a (hypothetical!) alt-2023 USA might understand the language and recognize landmarks built before the point of historical divergence, but perhaps not much else.

Time will ultimately carry on regardless of influence and it doesn't care for what ifs. The very concept of time is a human construct not yet fully understood and to us simply a tool used to navigate our everyday lives and create a cohesive record of our own existence. Therefore the whole " what if " stuff can't even apply.

I think that MM had some good points, but ultimately failed in her so called " what if scenario". In real life, Kaiser Wilhelm was not the crazed dictator that many have made him out to be. He went out of his way to try and prevent the war from happening in the first place. He wrote letter after letter to his cousin's and to the french premier begging them to prevent this war from happening. He talked his cousin Nicholas, down twice from mobilization. I believe had the French not betrayed and murdered their God given King Louis XVI, then the Kaiser may have been able to keep the French and all the states from mobilizing. I disagree with MM that Germany and Britian would have become the best of friends. There was too much competition in their naval and colonial races. They wouldnt necessary of become enemies, because they were familial related at the top, but i dont think they would have been besties. The relationship with Germany and Russia may have saved the Monarchy in Russia if there were no WW1. Wilhelm may have tried to help Nicholas when he saw what was happening in Russia. This is the problem with what if scenarios. There are too many variables. As a friend of mine says, the "what" of history happened because God deemed it so.

Entertaining "what if" but ... from an old Frenchman: do you know that on the western front the war took place in France? You have managed to talk about WWI without even mentioning France. Incredible! Especially since first the war ended with a French Fieldmarshal being the commander in chief of the allied forces (Marshal Foch) and second: in the end France had the largest number of casualties and destructions (1.6 million dead and 4 million injured, to be compared to the 880.000 dead and around 1 million injured for Britain)! The impact has been the loss of a generation so to speak: 15% of the population was dead or disabled! The country has never fully recovered by the way and this is not negligible to understand the inexplicable disaster of 1940, based mainly on huge strategic and tactical mistakes, exacerbated by the lack of communication means and poor leadership (to say the least). Anyway this is not a reason to delete for ever France from the picture ... So, if I understand correctly, the French were just attending the show, probably sitting on lounge chairs on sunny days, admiring these brave British soldiers winning WWI by themselves... Last but not the least: the statement from Margaret MacMillan, "there would have been a world-changing alliance made between Britain and Germany ..." Nobody else ... So pretentious! Thanks, I appreciate! 9:38: you could have mentionned that although "people packing together in close contact" increased the spreading of the disease, this is not what triggered the pandemic. The origin of the so-called "Spanish flu" was ... in America. The disease started in Kansas where young American soldiers were contaminated in boot camps (Fort Riley to be precise) before travelling to Europe. Note: it has been called "Spanish flu" because Spain (which was not involved in WWI) was the only country at the time to post information related to this pandemic. In Spain they call it "the Neapolitan soldier" (don't ask me why)

Have been serving/working on Fort Riley since 1993. There is actually an obscure historical marker stating that the Spanish Flu started on Camp Funston - part of Fort Riley. It has been speculated that the flu may have started way out in the western part of the state - possible Hodgeman County. At any rate - yep - started at Fort Riley.
