"If a picture paints a thousand words then why can't I paint you?"
Clara and I hope you like our wedding version of this timeless and beautiful song. Written by David Gates in 1971 and released by his band Bread, "If" is a song which has captured the hearts of many across the years - it is surely one of the most tender melodies ever written and has always been one of my favourite songs.
In this arrangement, Pachelbel's "Canon in D" is intertwined with the melody, making this version ideal for Weddings.
Thank you to my friend Clara Tietz for playing the violin with so much heart and putting so much love and care into every single note. It's an honour to work with Clara and we plan to release many more Wedding Versions :-)
Whilst typing the lyrics into the video I realised that I have never understood the phrase "you're all that's left me to" ... the beauty of an instrumental version of this song is that no singer has to pretend they know what that means :-) - If anybody understands that line - or if David Gates happens to read this - please let me know in the comments below because I will lose sleep over it.

Another wonderful arrangement Paul. As for your query about the lyrics, I'm not sure. I think it needs to be taken as the whole line, "If a face could launch a thousand ships Then where am I to go?" I think it's trying to say that he (assuming it's a 'he') would be lost without his one true love if he were sent away.

'Helen of Troy' was said to have 'launched 1000 ships' by her beauty. ie The Trojan War et cetera. I suppose that the lyricist is merely using this image to say 'I cant compete with that stuff'
