I really wish the wiiU would have supported 3ds games. It has all the same controls and 2 screens already and was current while the 3ds was so I felt nintendo really messed up there.

@CrazyMaxxVideos It's not very good. Even on a good wifi signal, you're also bottlenecked by the 3DS performance. A game that runs at 30 FPS could stream at 20 for example. Even then , you'd have to lower the quality and it looks like a compressed JPEG mess. It's a HUGE shame the current options aren't open source.

First, what the heck. People really want to push the GBA so far that they make multiple mods for the screen, battery compartment, and adding bluetooth. Now you can play GBA games on original hardware on a big screen. This seems amazing.

@@dwaynethemineraljohnson412 so what your telling me is I could either use one of the 3 gbas I got for 10 bucks each and use one kit for 70 bucks for a total of 80 bucks to play on a TV or I could buy a GameCube for like 80 bucks and a GameCube player for like 100 bucks with a estimated total of 180 bucks

They should have had an option for the GBA's screen and the composite video out being on at the same time, for capture cards.

This is perfect for someone who travels a lot. With a great backlit screen mod and when you are back at the hotel you can run it through the TV.

This kit looks sooo awesome!!! I was planning on upgrading my gameboy to a ips screen anyway but the fact I can use this to output to a capture card for streaming makes this a purchase from me!!!

This is by far the best “bang for your buck” when it comes to GBA mod kits. The AV out was definitely the driving force of me making the purchase earlier this week. Thank you for sharing this with us. I can’t wait to do this mod and finally enjoy my GBA games on my 20 inch CRT!!

I would use this as a travel device again. It literally is what I wanted as a kid. But now that can be a living thing. I can play the gba in bed/on a road trip/down time/ or if I am visiting someplace and didn’t bring a book or I just wanna game it up a little bit. With this a/v mod everywhere in any way is now possible!

This is a super cool alternative to the GBPlayer, and for the price, it's a steal! Disc drive on the gamecube is starting to show its age more and more these days, and they're not getting any cheaper. I'd be interested to see a GBA SP version of this mod in the future. Tought it would be a complicated install but it looks pretty straight forward! I'm Lovin'it!

I think it's amazing. Kind of like having a Nintendo Switch from 2001. I could play the same save with a gba player on gamecube, but it's nice to have an all in one compact thing like this

I also have Super Gameboy for the SNES (And the RetroTink 5X) .. so as far as Capture hardware goes, I think I'm covered.. but I can see how a lot of people wanting to capture Gameboy games could put this to use!!

Nice video! I subbed - I did order two of these kits to test and make an episode about everything involved. I also will compare emulation, gba player on GameCube and this new mod and see how they all look in comparison - all on a/v out composite and use the same tv. Again, great video - and gained a sub here. 😊

Could you take this sort of setup and make a giant gameboy advance out of it? Like, hookup a big screen, 3D print a shell and stuff? GAME MAN ADVANCED

I had the same idea recently! When this released, it made me think of akiramods' "GBA XL", I have a GBA carrying case on hand and considered ordering this IPS kit, but the only thing that stopped me was the inferior image quality. Once they release the upgraded version of this kit with video quality beyond composite, I will have my own go at building a GBA XL 🤩

Ugh, almost perfect, really wish that the Link cable function still worked.

Your video quality is fantastic. These honestly aren't bad when compared to the gba player price wise. GBA player plus a gamecube would cost a person around 200 USD. So I think this is a good choice if you can solder and don't own a gamecube.

cool mod, impressed with how cleanly its done through the existing port on a gba. though as a gamecube and gameboy enthusiast seems weird to have this when i have a gameboy player for my gamecube, but i suppose this is a good option for people with a more restrictive budget.

This is really cool, though I do hope in the future they will allow for more video signals to be used like S video, RGB, or maybe even HDMI. But as of now this is still very interesting

You know, I’ve been tempted to get one of those retro consoles for playing gameboy/gba on my TV for the last few years but I’ve never followed through because of price. I don’t really need all the special features or HDMI compatibility, so this would be the perfect option for me. No expensive retro consoles, no need to hunt down a GameCube and Gameboy Player, and all I have to do is a minor amount of soldering. This is perfect for someone of a similar mindset to me, and the only way it could get better is if it had a way to activate Super Gameboy enhancements built into the older Gameboy games. I was considering getting that drop in GBA ips mod you made a video about a little bit ago, but now that this is on my radar I might just go this method instead.

I wonder if this awesome IPS/composite mod could be modified to add a simple switch to change between TV out and link cable capabilities? If I'm playing multiplayer or playing Four Swords Adventures/PacMan VS, I'm unlikely to have access to multiple TVs. Keep up the great work, Tito! 🤘😁

PS, I suspect this is NTSC only at the moment, as opposed to PAL (or indeed SECAM).

I know a lot of people who shiny hunt in Pokemon and record their GBA screen with a camera so they can share the moment with others. This could be super useful for that.

This with the omega would be lovely - GB, GBC, GBA, NES, and more all out on the tv. My childhood dream. And using real hardware for it is all the better.

Would have loved to see how this thing would look on a crt cause that's what I use in my setup. Hopefully it outputs to 240p and not 480i

I don't have a Retrotink or other upscaler - any chance you could capture some footage (even off camera!) of just the composite signal directly into the TV? I wonder how that would look...

This is awesome. I was tempted by the colonizer but this seems like a much cheaper and great option if you have a scaler. I wish they had one for SCART so I could use it with my OSSC. Are they thinking of making a SCART version?

Great mod!

You should get your hands on a GBA Consolizer. I have one and it's pretty great. Installing it wasn't hard and it looks amazing on my 55" OLED. Only downside to it is it uses DVI instead of HDMI so you may have to use the headphone jack for sound. I just plugged it into my HDMI 2 on my TV instead of in my AV receiver and got a 3.5mm to RCA cable to plug into the receiver.

I've been modding my GBA like crazy, and have been considering upgrading from the IPS screen I have to this one, but if the link port loses its functionality specifically for GameCube connectivity, then that is a genuine deal breaker. A main reason I wanted to mod my GBA is to have a better way to play games like 4 Swords Adventures and Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles.

@@MachoNachoProductions I assume you mean the wireless GBA compatability for the small collection of games that used that adapter like Fire Red and Leaf Green. If however there is some wireless Gamecube adapter, I'm very intrigued to learn about that. Anyway I think the 4 official products to check are: standard GBA link cables, Wireless GBA link connecting for the few games that support it, GBA to GameCube link cable connectivity, and E-Reader connectivity. Unofficially there is the Majesco wireless link that can be used with any other GBA using the same accessory even though the game in question never supported the official wireless link (Pokemon games aren't supported with this accessory for whatever reason) and the Kionix GBA Acceleramator accessory that can be used with GBA homebrew for motion control. I believe that is the extent of products that need to be tested with this mod. Though I know the last 2 unofficial products might be much harder to test considering how much more difficult they are to come by. Edit: oh wait, I think there was an unofficial GBA Camera that used the port too that probably should be checked as well.

All that's left to add for future IPS kits is the "Retro Pixel" option. The Gameboy and NGPC IPS kits from "Hispeedido" have it, so I'm hoping that's the next step.

5:17 Add that Kapton Tape BEFORE you install the screen. I broke the ribbon cable on 2 screens installing the very similar IPS V3 kit from Hand Held Legend. The PCB is heavy enough to tear the ribbon cable.

I'm honestly surprised that you haven't done a video on the GBA Consolizer

this is pretty cool. maybe with a framemeister, could be great, and if you're traveling and just happen to have composite on the hotel TV, you could have a game night or something.

The Composite output quality of this kit does look pretty nice all things considered. One question tho. Does this IPS kit have any built in filters for GBA mode, such as the gridline filter? I absolutely love the way the gridlines look for GBA titles and it's really a shame when today's IPS kits don't include it.

Really the only 2 cons is that soldering is required and the output is composite though this shows how far we're progressing in terms of GBA mods so hopefully in the near future there will be a link cable with HDMI output

There’s a gba consolizer that does hdmi out. It’s a much more complicated mod though.

This is an awesome mod. I would love to see the video output on a CRT.

The IPS V3 Kit (without AV Cable) from Hand Held Legend I’ve got does works with Link Cable and GameCube Link Cable.

I've been wanting to use a Gameboy Camera as a webcam, but didn't want to splurge on a GBA consolizer. This looks like a great, new, cheap option :)

This is a cool concept. Sadly the only GBA of mine I would do this to has a broken port. Since I have the Gameboy player and a Retron 5 this mod can wait.

This, in a BoxyPixel shell and USB-C power? UltimateBoy. But you know? The modding scene keeps making me think that we haven't seen the Gameboy's "Ultimate Form" yet... :P

I wonder if there is a work around to get the touch sensors to work with a boxy pixel shell. That's my only worry considering I love the idea of having the hefty aluminum housing.

Did you test the link port before modding this GBA? Because mine worked fine with the AV out kit installed. the next iteration of this kit (because of course they already made a new revision) tried to fix this non-issue and requires a more complicated install and breaks accessory compatibility to be able to use a link cable while in tv out mode.

I didn’t, I actually dont have a link cable or wireless adaptor. I just bought both on eBay so I can test things like in the future. I spoke with RGRS about compatibility with link port accessories and was told that only the wireless adaptor works after the mod. If you tested the link cable and it works that’s great news and I’ll pin your comment to the video. Thanks for the heads up Makho! Very much appreciated dude!

As the prices of Game Boy Player discs continue to increase, I love seeing more alternatives for newcomers wanting OEM ways to play and record Game Boy come to market. : )

Bought a modded tv out gba and an everdrive it works the best very crisp hd. Only drawback is it looks delicate with a small charge input so keep it straight don’t let it hang down too much
