It's been a long time I haven't played Sonic Heroes, but as I remember, while every team goes through the same stages, they had completely different objectives. Sonic is just your classic reach-the-end goal, but I remember Team Rose had the objective "collect over x rings", and this was a huuuuuuuuuuuuge pain for the Casino stages

They each go through the same stages in the same order. Team Rose runs for the Goal Ring which is situated somewhere between quarter and a third of the way into the stage. They have less and weaker enemies/combat encounters. They are required to start their playthrough in the tutorial which is optional for other teams. Easy Mode. Team Sonic runs for the Goal Ring which is situated roughly halfway into the stage. They have a decent amount of enemies/combat. Normal Mode. Team Dark runs for the Goal Ring which is situated at the end of the stage. More and stronger enemies/combat encounters. Hard Mode. Team Chaotix has an objective each level instead of a Goal Ring and the stage may have slight structural alterations to allow for backtracking. Different Mode.

Sure enough though I had forgotten the secondary missions that aren't part of the campaign: Team Rose's require the player to collect 200 Rings in the levels. Team Sonic's require completion of the levels under time limit. Team Dark's require the player to wipe out 100 enemies in the levels. Team Chaotix's add an additional modifier to the existing objectives.

I looked up the Tails thing cause I thought you were referring to Tails being 8 plus the fact I thought Tails was played by a girl in this game, but no Tails' voice actor in this game was 10 when this game came out so he had to be younger when recording. The more you know.

To be serious... Sonic 2006 levels are the LONGEST levels i have played yet.... Yeah man... But temple ruins in silver's story is hell...

I like this game, but I don't love it. I played it a ton when it came out, getting the true ending, and have done so more times since. What brings down the score for me is how slippery and finnicky the gameplay can be, the Speed-Types aside from Amy being amped way higher than usual (too high for said controls), and as an advocate against the non-stop "Gotta go fast!" mentality even I think some enemies have absurd healthbars. Despite these issues my experience with it and opinions towards it are overall firmly positive and if friends or family that and may enjoy it asked for recommendations I'd mention it, but I'm certainly not going to shout praises from the rooftops.

I feel like Sonic Heroes is enjoyable but it is admittedly a baby game. A teenager is the oldest you would need to be at maximum because otherwise so many factors of this game are cringe, making you annoyed or feel embarrassed for playing. For example, the characters say the same stock lines through out the whole game repeatedly and never stop talking. It gives a very much child TV show vibe like, "Do you see Eggman's Robots?" Overall, the gameplay I found fun and because I was a child when I played this game I enjoyed it, but I can absolutely see how cringe this game would feel if I wasn't a kid or didn't originally play it as a kid. TLDR: If I played this game for the first time now as an adult, I would probably hate it because of these "cringe" factors but it is still a good game just made for an audience of very young children.
