If I Only Had a Brain- Clawhammer Banjo Arrangement
If I only had a brain, I would have realized that my dad was working on a project in the backyard and filmed somewhere else. Ah well, we got a good video in the end. Didn't get enough wind to spin the propeller hat though. This was a really fun song to arrange! I think the melody fits the banjo sound very well, and with a little clawhammer styling thrown in, I'm quite pleased with how it turned out!
Shoutout to Schmudge the terrier and Lollie the corgi for running around like crazy and causing mischief. Maybe I'll get them to sit still with me for a video one of these days.

Hi Phoebe. Love your banjo playing. When I was a kid I had a Beanie and Cecil propeller beanie that you could wind up and when you pulled the chinstrap the propeller would fly off (I'm an old geezer). Thank you for your music. Also, I am a fan of the Wizard of Oz {books and movie). I remember when they used to play the movie once a year like a holiday.
The hat is like a Jughead Jones crown hat combined with a propeller beanie!
Being a somewhat older person I sang the loud parts "out loud". I know what you were singing silently! Having grown up watching the " Wizard of OZ" and being from Kansas this is a special song for me! Thank You!

You should have two counter-rotating propellers, so that once they start spinning, they don't spin you around due to conservation of angular momentum.

Tell your dad he needs to be spinning your propeller with the leaf blower rather than just wandering around photobombing! Such things are what dads are for. 🙂 I'd be curious to know what criteria you use to decide which banjo to play (larger pot vs smaller). Is it based on the song or something else? I'm in the process of deciding on a beginner banjo and am leaning toward one with a larger pot (12" vs 11").

As someone who was once the Tin Man in a production, I have a soft spot for any "If I Only Had A" song, and this one was so well done. I loved it.
