About wound care: another possible plausible theory could be that in addition to the antiseptic, anti microbial effects of honey, and that it’s potentially helping retain moisture, could it also be directly nourishing the damaged tissues as well? After all, isn’t it understood that small amounts of nutrients are absorbed through the skin, hence why some skincare products will be enriched with things like vitamin E?

My Dad taught us really old German folk medicine. One of the most powerful medicines he swore by was cider vinegar and honey in spring water. The other thing was cold showers or cold plunges in the creek. And walking, especially in the bush. Dad healed an extremely bad, 3rd degree burn with honey from his hives, and the doctor was amazed at how fast and perfectly it healed.

I lived in a small beach town in Mexico my friend who grew up there would sit there and not get bit by mosquitos while they would eat me alive. He told me to eat a little bit of the local natural honey every day. From then on the mosquitos left me alone. There are sooooo many things in the foods we eat that we know nothing about.

Guys! Know that honey is one of the most counterfeit foods you can buy. Its very commonly mixed with corn syrup. To average consumer this honey-corn syrup mix is indistinguishable from pure honey. Also avoid big brands of honey. Who knows how the bees are treated and the quality of the flowers the bees are exposed to. Fond a local bee keeper and talk to them. Sorry, but this isn't true. Bees generally don't collect wind borne pollen. Wind borne pollen is what mostly gives an allergic response. Bees collect from flowers. The loc polen is in honey. And your body analyzes it and understands how to fight off allergic reactions. People used to eat outside a lot on the old days. This would accomplish the same thing the local polen gets in the food. I know this because grand ma said so many years ago.

I am currently on keto, but the more I research, the more I am convinced that demonizing all carbs and having a “carbophobia” is not only B.S. but also prevent you from having many health benefits. We cannot group sugar with healthy fruit, honey, legumes and whole grains and say “all carbs are bad”. A balanced whole food diet is the key. Variety is good. Deprivation is bad!

It's not that we demonize carbs, it's the fact that people who eat carbs from unhealthy sources won't eat the carbs from the healthy choices by far. As a health professional, telling people who won't educate themselves to 'just say no to carbs' is the shortcut to getting them away from the bad foods. Once they're getting healthier from keto, then they may start acquiring the knowledge to eat the healthy carbs. I know people who's food choice on low carb is to eat candy for their carbs. Hey Tom, you should look into something called propolis. Bees produce it by mixing their saliva and beeswax with resins and I believe it might be one of the major factors for the anti-microbial part of honey, it is also amazing for wounds and burns as you said. My parents when I was younger bought some of this stuff and they mixed it with pure alcohol and we used it as a disinfectant, but it was also amazing at healing cuts, sores, pretty much everything. If I got a cut on myself and used this stuff it would heal twice as fast.

Reason for the scepticism is that many studies are motivated by commercial vested interests. It's "lobby science" not natural science.
