If European Borders Were Drawn By DNA Instead Of Ethnicity

The map above shows what the borders of Europe, the Middle East and North Africa might look like if they were based on the dominant Y-DNA haplogroup rather than ethnicity and/or any other political considerations.
Here’s some very basic information about each group:
Haplogroup R1b: “It is the most frequently occurring paternal lineage in Western Europe, as well as some parts of Russia (e.g. the Bashkir minority) and Central Africa (e.g. Chad and Cameroon). It is also present at lower frequencies throughout Eastern Europe, Western Asia, as well as parts of North Africa and Central Asia.”
Haplogroup R1a: “It is distributed in a large region in Eurasia, extending from Scandinavia, Central Europe and southern Siberia to South Asia.”
Haplogroup N: “It has a wide geographic distribution throughout northern Eurasia, and it also has been observed occasionally in other areas, including Southeast Asia, the Pacific, Southwest Asia and Southern Europe.”
Haplogroup I1: “The haplogroup reaches its peak frequencies in Sweden (52 percent of males in Västra Götaland County) and western Finland (more than 50 percent in Satakunta province).[6] In terms of national averages, I-M253 is found in 35-38 per cent of Swedish males, 32.8% of Danish males, about 31.5% of Norwegian males and about 28% of Finnish males.”
Haplogroup I2: “The haplogroup reaches its maximum frequency in the Dinaric Alps in the Balkans, where the men are on record as being the tallest in the world, with a male average height of 185.6 cm (6 ft 1.1 in).”
Haplogroup J1: “This haplogroup is found today in significant frequencies in many areas in or near the Middle East, and parts of the Caucasus, Sudan and Ethiopia. It is also found in high frequencies in parts of North Africa, Southern Europe, and amongst Jewish groups, especially those with Cohen surnames. It can also be found much less commonly, but still occasionally in significant amounts, throughout Europe and as far east as Central Asia and the Indian Subcontinent.”
Haplogroup J2: “It is found in Western Asia, Central Asia, South Asia, Europe and North Africa, but it is usually associated with Northwest Asia. It is thought that J2 might have originated between the Caucasus Mountains, Mesopotamia and the Levant.”
Haplogroup E: “Most members of haplogroup E-M96 belong to one of its identified subclades, and the E-M96(xE-P147, E-M75) is rare. E1a and E-M75 are found almost exclusively in Africa. By looking at the major subclade frequencies, five broad regions of Africa can be defined: East, Central, North, Southern and West. The division can be distinguished by the prevalence of E-V38 in East, Central, Southern and West Africa, E-M78 in East Africa and E-M81 in North Africa.”
Haplogroup G: “At the level of national populations, G-M201 is most commonly found in Georgia; it is found at even higher levels among many other regional and minority populations in The Caucasus. G-M201 is also widely distributed at low frequencies, among ethnic groups of Europe, South Asia, Central Asia, and North Africa.”

  • @GeneticsLessons

    @GeneticsLessons

    Жыл бұрын

    It is true that Montenegro and Croatia have a higher frequency of haplogroup I2 compared to other populations in the region, and Bulgaria has a higher frequency of haplogroup E-V13. Haplogroups are genetic lineages that can be traced back to a common ancestor. Haplogroup I2 is common in the Balkans and is believed to have originated in the region. It is found at high frequencies in Montenegro and Croatia, but it is also present in other populations in the region. On the other hand, haplogroup E-V13 is a subclade of haplogroup E, which is most common in North Africa and the Horn of Africa. E-V13 is believed to have originated in the Balkans and is found at high frequencies in Bulgaria, as well as in some other populations in the region. It's important to note that haplogroup frequencies can vary within populations, and these patterns can be affected by migration, genetic drift, and other factors. Therefore, while it is true that Montenegro and Croatia have a higher frequency of haplogroup I2 and Bulgaria has a higher frequency of haplogroup E-V13, these frequencies may not be uniform across all individuals within those populations.

    You are right - this map is oversimplification. J2 is a Y-chromosome haplogroup found in many parts of the world, including Europe, the Middle East, and Central Asia. It is defined by a genetic marker known as M172, which is also known as J-M172. This marker is a SNP (single nucleotide polymorphism) that distinguishes J2 from other haplogroups within the larger J haplogroup. On the other hand, J-M267, also known as J1, is another subclade of the J haplogroup that is found primarily in the Middle East and North Africa. J-M267 is defined by a different SNP marker that distinguishes it from other haplogroups within the J haplogroup.

    Roman is mainly a culturally important group. Genetically it is primarily germanic and slavic in Europe. Ethnically germanic tribes lived also in France. Germanic tribes destroyed the western roman empire and moved to Spain and northern/middle Italy but partly adapted to the culture there. Also the english are of french (=germanic) and northern germanic descent. Also german≠germanic. We germans are only a part of the ethnic group of germanics.

    Haplogroup E is of African origin, but you should ask yourself what type of African it is and when it split. Haplogroup E came from North Africa and split from the Sub-Saharans 60,000 years ago. 20,000 years ago it gave rise to the Natufians of the Levant and these diverged into the Anatolian Farmers 10,000 years ago, taking with them Haplogroup E1B1, they mixed with the WHGs of Haplogroup I2, E1B1 mutated to EV13 and gave rise to the Balkan Farmers (which are not the modern Balkans) since the steppe peoples and later expansions of other peoples would bring Haplogroup R and continue changing the Autosomal DNA

    Genetically, the populations of Spain and Portugal are more similar to each other than they are to populations of the Netherlands or England. This is because the Iberian Peninsula (where Spain and Portugal are located) has been relatively isolated from other European populations for much of its history, which has allowed for greater genetic homogeneity within the region. In contrast, the populations of the Netherlands and England have a more complex genetic history due to their geographic location and historical interactions with other populations. For example, the Netherlands has historically been a center of trade and commerce, which has led to a greater genetic diversity within the population. Similarly, England has been invaded and settled by various groups throughout its history, including the Romans, Anglo-Saxons, Vikings, and Normans, which has also contributed to greater genetic diversity within the population. Despite these differences, it is important to note that all European populations share a common genetic ancestry and are more similar to each other than they are to non-European populations. Additionally, genetic diversity exists within all populations, and individuals can vary widely in their genetic makeup regardless of their cultural or ethnic background.

Dominant means the frequency of this Haplogroup is highest than any other usually for R1a yellow on the map it is between 60-80%, at the same time it does not mean that it is the only Haplogroup in the region and I showed an image which gives more detailed Haplogroups frequency by country as well.

    The prevailing haplogroups in Iceland and Norway are different due to their unique histories and geographical locations. In Iceland, the majority of the population (more than 99%) can trace their ancestry to early Viking settlers who arrived in the 9th century. As a result, the Icelandic population has a relatively homogeneous genetic makeup, with a high frequency of certain haplogroups. According to recent studies, the most common haplogroups in Iceland are: Haplogroup R1b, which is found in more than 50% of the male population Haplogroup J, which is found in about 20% of the male population Haplogroup I1, which is found in about 10% of the male population In Norway, the genetic makeup of the population is more diverse due to its history of migration and settlement. According to recent studies, the most common haplogroups in Norway are: Haplogroup R1b, which is found in about 25% of the male population Haplogroup R1a, which is found in about 20% of the male population Haplogroup I1, which is found in about 15% of the male population It is important to note that these figures are generalizations, and the distribution of haplogroups can vary significantly within and between different regions of Iceland and Norway.

    To me its beyond stupidity to not assume south slavs are actually connected to old people of the region as Illyrians, Tracians and Dacians. Its just they got mixed with northern viking-slav aka russ people and therefore got the name slavs. But in reality DNA proves all those theories and some evidences that formal history books are simply wrong about slavs coming to balkans 99% populating the region. Its more like rus warlike chieftans simply conquered and subjugated mentioned tribes, who were already culturally subjugated by Rome for many years. Therefore with some influx of high society rus some sort of slav language as lingua franca formed. This is not my idea, its out there for a very long time, but lately some respected historians suggested it and i thought makes sense. Also historians in 19. century simplified everything about nations and ethnicity origin, some things even to push agenda such as "slavs migrated to balkans in 7.century". The evidence suggests there was no big migration at all, but rather slow merging of 2 different people (rus and illyrians). As these historians noticed term "slav" comes from potentially very strong tribe name (just 1 tribe in hundreds), but somehow became formal name for everyone in the region even tho until 20. century people of "south slavs" and some others call themselves many different names as vlachs, illyrians and serbs. Reality is much more complex as is DNA and culture.

  • @GeneticsLessons

    @GeneticsLessons

    Жыл бұрын

    Kosovo, like many other regions in the Balkans, has a complex genetic history with contributions from various populations over time. However, studies have suggested that the E1b1b1 (E-M35) haplogroup is relatively common in Kosovo, particularly among the Albanian population. E1b1b1 is a Y-DNA haplogroup that is found at high frequencies in many parts of the Balkans, including Albania, Greece, and other neighboring countries. In Albania, the most common Y-DNA haplogroups are E1b1b1, I2a (I-M223), and R1b (R-M269), with the specific distribution varying by region and ethnic group. The mtDNA haplogroups in Albania are diverse and include several haplogroups found in Europe and the Middle East. In Greece, the most common Y-DNA haplogroups are also E1b1b1, followed by J2 (J-M172), R1b, and I2a. The distribution of haplogroups varies by region and subpopulation, reflecting the complex history of the region. The mtDNA haplogroups in Greece are also diverse, with several haplogroups found in Europe and the Middle East. It's worth noting that the distribution of haplogroups can vary within and between populations, and that haplogroups should not be used to make assumptions about an individual's ancestry or ethnicity.

  • @GeneticsLessons

    @GeneticsLessons

    Жыл бұрын

    This map is extreme oversimplification - the haplogroup distribution in Iran is complex and varies across different regions of the country. However, some haplogroups are relatively common across Iran as a whole. One of the most prevalent haplogroups in Iran is J2, which is a subclade of the broader J haplogroup. J2 is thought to have originated in the eastern Mediterranean region and has since spread across the Middle East, Central Asia, and South Asia. It is estimated that around 30% of Iranian men carry the J2 haplogroup. Another common haplogroup in Iran is R1a, which is also found in other parts of South Asia and Central Asia. It is estimated that around 15-20% of Iranian men carry the R1a haplogroup. Other haplogroups that are relatively common in Iran include G, E1b1b, and R2. The distribution of these haplogroups varies depending on the specific region and ethnic group within Iran. It is important to note that haplogroup frequencies can be influenced by a variety of factors, including historical migrations, population movements, and genetic drift. Therefore, the prevalence of specific haplogroups in Iran may reflect complex historical and cultural interactions over time, rather than any inherent biological or genetic characteristic of the region.

  • @GeneticsLessons

    @GeneticsLessons

    Жыл бұрын

    @@human8454 Yes, it is true the Arab invasion of Persia began in the 7th century AD after the rise of Islam, and it led to the eventual conversion of Persia to Islam. The Arab forces were led by the Rashidun and Umayyad caliphs and faced stiff resistance from the Sassanian Empire. Similarly, the Turks invaded Persia in the 10th century AD and established the Ghaznavid and Seljuk Empires. The Seljuk Turks played a significant role in the spread of Islam in Persia and were responsible for the construction of many of the region's notable Islamic architectural landmarks. While the Arab and Turkic invasions of Persia were largely motivated by political and military objectives, they had a significant impact on the cultural and social fabric of the region. The introduction of Islam and Arabic culture had a lasting influence on the Persian language, literature, art, and architecture. Today, Iran is a predominantly Muslim country and has a rich cultural heritage that reflects the fusion of Persian and Islamic traditions.

    @@GeneticsLessons 🤦‍♂️ yes First humans came out of Africa but those humans are long gone now. Evolved out of existence. Current humans are different from them both in Africa and rest of the world. Now R1b haplogroup is only present in a very small tribe of West Africa, R1b is not an native African haplogroup. But these tribes are genetically the same as surrounding population but have no similarities with European populations. For example A Swedish guy with R1b went to Africa and had shit tone of kids with the native population and now his kids are half African and then these kids went on to have kids with more native women and with in two or more generation the Swedish part of them is completely gone but the haplogroup r1b is there and the population is still African That's why I said haplogroups doesn't mean shit, genetic similarities matter.

    @@stormtrooper8420 Genetic studies show that Chad Africans possess 20-30% West Eurasian DNA, the haplogroup they possess is R1b-V88 and derives from a population of Near Eastern farmers who migrated to Egypt and these migrated to Chad during the Holocene, haplogroups represent an important part of the genetic makeup, haplogroup R1b also originated in the Caspian Sea and is believed to have first spread to Iran since the oldest versions of haplogroups and ancient DNA are found there proves it, haplogroup R1b is also found in South Asia such as Pakistan and India, although most of the haplogroups are L, H, M and R1a
