Denmark videos are the most watched because we apparently love watching videos about ourselves. We take narcissism to an entirely new level.

Here's a secret: "Hygge" means "cosiness". I really don't understand what the fuss is all about because it's even in Gyldendal's dictionary. But there are other words and terms that only exist in Danish such as "Statsskattedirektoratet", "Overformynderiet", "Psykofarmakamisbrug", "Institutionssocialisering" and "Socialmusikpædagog". Not to mention more slangy expressions such as "perker", "fejlfarve", "bollebræt", "smatso", "spasserrøv" and "nasserøv".

Very spot on, from a Dane. You forgot to mention that Iceland is very close to Denmark still and that Icelanders have Danish as a 3rd language still. Many Icelanders come to Denmark for work and studies and the rest seems to go to Norway. Norwegian and Danish are closer to each other than Swedish and likewise the peoples culture. Norwegians and Danes can happily speak native to each other and joke around while Swedish is hard and most Danish-Swedish conversations just default to perfect English but with both insisting on saying "Sorry for my poor English" :)

For me personally I understand swedish very well but I can for the life of me not understand norwegian. Reading it is easy but understanding it gives me great trouble. The time a norwegian talked to me at Smuk Fest and I repeatedly had to tell him that I couldn’t understand a single word he said no matter much he tried is still fresh in my memory. In that regard I guess it different for every one but I also taught myself swedish as a kid, just by watching swedish TV4.

+Mick Boontjes as the “heathen” people of Estonia were “waging war” on Christianity the king of Denmark at that time decided to set out multiple crusades to Estonia one of them were this fierce battle commenced almost ending with the Danes loosing but then the king and the bishops who were on the crusade had a prayer meeting and at the end of that meeting a flag flew from the sky that flag was “Dannebrog” which then gave the Danes hope and they fought back the Estonians. This is also dipicted in a painting which I’ll link here: www.visitvestsjaelland.dk/ar-1219-dannebrog

I'm surprised you didn't mention some of the more Vikingesque like Knife = Kniv Knight = Knægt (though the meaning has changed over time) Boat = Båd Sword = Sværd Berserk = Besærk Skull = Skald Die = Dø Cake = Kage (yup, no Vikings, no cake ;) ) The days of the week were also Viking names Monday = Mandag (Day of the moon) Tuesday = Tirsday (Day of Tyr, god of war and justice) Wednesday = Onsdag (Day of Odin, king of gods and god of pretty much everything, especially wisdom) Thursday = Torsdag (Day of Tor, god of thunder (torden) and on occasion also of war) Friday = Fredag (Day of Frigg goddess of wisdom or Freja goddess of fertility and love and on occasion war) Sunday = Søndag (Day of the sun) The bright ones might have noticed that Saturday is missing. Saturday comes from Saturn, whereas the Danes call it Lørdag, which stems from the old word for bath, as Saturday was bathing day, apparently that didn't have enough traction with the brits though ;) )

I always did too and 1 year after separating from the Airforce i found a job and moved here. Now i have lived in Copenhagen for 6 years and i love it. I ride my bike during the winter to work and longboard during the summer. I took 3 years of Danish lessons at a school called IA Sprog and i am nearly fluent. I do have some trouble with terms that i have never heard of, but for the most part i can get by in Danish. After living here for 4 years i married a Dane and we have a son together. I love the healthcare system and everything Denmark offers and will not be going back to America anytime soon.

For anyone interested, there's a really cool "what if" scenario created by a guy who played as Denmark in a couple of video games covering the medieval and early modern periods. He wrote down his actions in the game as if though they were real historical records, and turns Denmark into a global empire, pretty much taking over Britain's role in real life, albeit with a lot of differences, of course: forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/index.php?threads/north-sea-empire-a-knytling-aar.882499/

Southpark already showed a world in which Denmark had ultimate power. It was scary. side note: Denmark pretty much wins having Greenland, everyone else had to de-colonize their bigger territories (except for some islands) but Greenland is huge, having a huge territory like that is a plus.
