The song is sung with a heavy grunt from the male vocalist as a way to create a heavy feeling to the song. You are in tune with the song, but it loses a little bit of it's heaviness with your version. That's why some of the chorus is extremely deep and low toned. You have to imagine his feelings of carrying the heavy weight of "trying again", like the grunt of lifting and holding 300lbs or something that's just above a person's weight lifting capacity. It's that feeling he's feeling as he knows trying again may just be too much to lift.

I'd be down for that! Breaking Benjamin is definitely one of my favorites!
It's that feeling he's feeling as he knows trying again may just be too much to lift.

finally someone said it. i was searching forever trying to find real feedback and not endless praise. she's not bad, but she doesn't convey any real emotion. on "strong men die" she just blandly holds the note, whereas the original singer leans into it with distortion. it's too clean and, to me, feels totally apathetic. this feels like a pop cover. and i guess people like that. not my thing though, no disrespect

This is what I wanted to say. It has nothing to do with her being female. It's because she uses no grit in her voice. Too clean for me

Sounds dope asf❤
So many comments land on what I was thinking. You are a doll and have a great voice. You give a new perspective to this song I hadn't noticed before. However, as a lifelong fan of BB, the raw emotion that Ben portrays through his vocals is almost impossible to mimic. His vocal quality, his breathing, and the emphasis he puts on keywords and phrases are unique to only him. This was a great go at an excellent song, but there can only be one Ben.

Absolutely beautiful dear. Thank you
Technically speaking she replicated it perfectly. But honestly everyone, this wasn't sung with the emotional drive it's supposed to have. We needed more grit, passion, the crying out kind of singing, not the clear, crisp singing we have here. This is what people miss, which ultimately means so many people dismiss grunge and rock, and punk music. Doesn't need to be clean vocals. Sometimes it's not the clarity but the emotion in it.

@@stonehallow Oh wow, it really doesn't sound like that but I'll take it from you guys. I notice that vibrato gives me more 'air', so that's why I thought she unintentionally used it (as I notice myself doing sometimes, while singing in the bathroom mind you). I just don't understand why she'd add it though, because it doesn't make it sound better IMO.

Precisely, yes. When Ben sings this song you can identify emotions in his voice- anger, horror, despair, regret, contempt, etc. She sang beautifully, but there was absolutely an emotional depth missing.

I must disagree. Didnt liked it at all. Ben is shouting. He is singing and doing epic growl/screamo, and none of those females do this. This just don't match to his songs full of emotions.
