The site doesn't offer a system wide update simply a Bluetooth compatibility for phones. Still nice Vid and will im sure help anyone who is having issues with Bluetooth

Hi I’ve got a 2017 320 M sport and the issue I’m having with the idrive is moving from the radio to Bluetooth or usb devices on its own driving me insane

Nice video, I have a question. If using iDrive6 and I do the system update, does it mean I can mirror apps on the iDrive system screen, i.e navigation app like waze. Thank you.

No, you will need CarPlay upgrade if your vehicle is compatible

Very infomative video. I put my VIN and the website says - Your Vehicle is uptown date. In this case how to i activate apple CarPlay. When i called BMW they told me i need to have Smartphone Integration Package from BMW which i can purchase through the app. But in the app it's not where mentioned. When i told them this they said your car cannot be upgraded to apple CarPlay. Doesn't make sense.

Yes only selected vehicles have the software support. If you login to bmw connect app or website, you will be able to see if your vehicle is compatible.

Nice one. you explained very well. However I could not update the x5 because it said 'No usb in system'. the usb is working the light is on but the car won't read it! Phone works on BT but audio will not work.

No. CarPlay is a feature you can purchase on connect drive site if your vehicle is compatible. My car is 2016 and it’s not compatible.

If you sign up to BMW connect packages, it will let you know there if you can purchase CarPlay. If it lets you, that means your compatible - you will need your VIN in order to sign up to BMW connect.

How do u do this on Windows laptop, cnt seem to find tht file format for the usb stick, and do u need to do the unzip on the computer

To format the usb, you can write click and then scroll down until you see format option. Once downloaded the file, you can unzip the file by double clicking the file. Let me know if it works for you.

This is interesting. I need help with my bmw 1 serie f20 2014 . The software is corrupted and I can't download from bmw site with vin. Car is from Germany imported te the Netherlands . Is there anyway to download the package ? The problem of this car is that the head unit shows errors in bimmercode and can't be access to code everything to normal . Even the Navi is gone .

I would suggest you to check with German BMW website to see if they reorganise your vin number. The .com website is the only website I know sorry. Updating sortware may not resolve your issues if hardware is not supported. Let me know if you figure out?

@@APTechs after 3 days driving the system could be finally restored in bimmercode. There was a error in the head unit parameters. It's weird because days before I could not enter head unit parameters. Even now the aux works and navigator is back 👍

Or 3, the idrive fitted in your car isn't the original system, and I've no way to figure out how to update it

I've seen a few of your videos now, I've just purchased a 1 series F40 2020 plate, which I'm assuming is running Idrive7, however I have a old operating system, I've entered my Vin number and it just says I'm already up to date on my software. Can anybody shed some light on this, I can't seem to find the exact info I need anywhere. I've contacted BMW through the connected app, so hoping for a response soon. But if anyone here has any experience please help. Thanks

Congrats and welcome to BMW family. I would like to think your vehicle will be eligible to remote software update if you have signed up to BMW connect. Older vehicles like 2018 and below will not have the remote software update feature. Let me know the outcome of BMW response.

When I try to open the .bin file it asks me how I want to open it, apparently I don’t have the correct app to open it? Please help.

When you download the file it’s usually as zip file. You will need to expand it before saving it on your USB. Your USB format should be m.dos.fat

The BMW website has an update but when I attempt to update the car says it's up to date when I know it's not. (2014 F30)

Have you formatted your USB? If so, try to without unzipping the file. Sometimes it works this way.

It depends if you had voice command option previously. This software update helps with map, Bluetooth, etc.

Hi, I think BMW may have discontinued updating softwares for older models.

Followed the steps correct but when I plug it into my car it says “software on usb device not up to date” and now I’m having Bluetooth issues that I didn’t have before :/

That’s strange. Restart your idrive, hopefully that should resolve Bluetooth glitches

@@APTechs I have restarted and still not working, if I got the update from BMWs website directly I don’t see how it can be out of date 🤷🏻‍♂️

One thing to note, when you download the file, don’t unzip it. I tried multiple usbs with the unzipped file and it did NOT work. Keep the file as it is and the update works.

Please format your usb as suggested in the video, if no avail. Don’t unzip the downloaded file. Let me know if it works.

If your vehicle is within 3 year warrantee you can get free update from BMW when you take it for service. If not, then you will need to pay.
