That may be because his mother was brought up in Sierra Leone where her Ghanaian parent's lived. She was most likely born in Sierra Leone, and possibly her parents never took her to visit Ghana either, so she didn't have that tradition to pass onto Idris. In his current TV sitcom on Sky, which I understand is part autobiographical, his mother is cast as a Ghanaian married to a Sierra Leonian, and regularly uses Ghanaian phrases.

When I went to Jamaica, my 10 year old cousin was fixing a car, he had his other friend as his runner to fetch various tools on command, when he had finished fixing the car he then proceeded to drive and test said car to make sure it was working ..... This is normal behaviour in some countries to not baby youngsters, more time it’s those in the west that are in their late twenties still trying to grow TF up ...
