Thank people like him and that we get to sit on youtube 22 hours a day poking fun at imbeciles like him. It's like when we watch horror flicks and scream at the piss clams running toward the demon to run the other way. There would be no movie if smart people were the focal point. Ignore sign, check. Strip off clothes and throw them into water, check. Dive belly-first into two feet of ice water, check. Given that it's Iceland, probably good it wasn't a volcano and lava flow.

When the video was started, the ice which the man is on, is about 4, 5 meters from the shore. I can't see how deep the sea is at that place. But then the ice drifted to the left, and lucky for him, close to the shore. He wasn't seem to realize that or even he looks thinking his ice is drifted away from the shore. Probably, around 3:54, 3:55, the ice is just 2 meters away from the shore and he had the best chance to start walking. Even with the water surface's reflection, we can see the bottom of the sea and it looks very shallow. But at the time, he was concentrated to put off his cloths and shoes, so he didn't realized that he was drifted to relatively safe place. A few people in front of the camera seem to realize how shallow the sea between his ice and shore, but no once tell that fact to him. If I was him, I may not realize that, too, so I feel sympathy. He may feel strong fear and may be under high stress. Such conditions make most person idiot. Walking on the ice where the sign says "Don't walk on the ice" was his fault. But once it happened, people should try to save him. I can't understand why people around 3:54, 3:55 didn't advise him that he can walk that shallow sea. Sorry this comment may be too serious. No intention to offense anyone.

Yes, there are lots of comments here about how stupid the guy was. But that was a very serious situation which could have been deadly, and I certainly would have panicked and done everything wrong too if it had been me. That's why it's best not to get into that kind of situation in the first place.

Yeah, so touching when challenged people too get to go out there and see the world, he has really loving caretakers 😊. They really should've looked after him better, though. Maybe put him on a leash like parents have for little kids at Disneyland.

I've lived here all my life. Never seen, or even heard about, anything like this. The water is close to zero degrees and what the hell is gained by this? Better view? Don't think so.

Once you're special enough to get yourself in that situation to begin with, I think simple solutions like that are too advanced for you. Along with just wading to shore instead of tossing your shirt into the sea for then to swan dive into the freezing water.

All things considered, he's quite lucky.

And tomorrow he'll go for a swim in one of Iceland's lava flows. But it looked so pretty!

Thinking rationally he could have paddled to shore with his hands since there didn't seem to be any strong currents, but when actually in danger and fearful one might just... freeze! Literally, here! It's good he kept moving and atleast did something to get out of the situation. Iceland is a beautiful place but seems it can be dangerous, signs that say do not walk on ice or even go near sea, where waves are freakish and can sweep you off the shore and drag you out to sea, nor walk on fresh lava fields or volcano rims as some tourists have done.

I'm sure the kid laughing at 4:37 is a native Icelander. Just has that "laughing at stupid tourist" feel to them. "Hey mom, today this dude got himself stuck on an ice floe and had to swim home!" "Oh dear, how far out did he drift?" "Several meters from shore and the water was 30 centimeters deep."

Oh man.. This is so sunny. He could've literally just jumped instead of a dive. The water seems really shallow. And he should've made his clothes into a ball, packed into his jacket. He did absolutely everything wrong.

Actually it is pretty deep very short from the bank. And as the peace of ice is going faster and faster he is very close to rely serious problem - but funny, yes And in water close to 0 degrees, passing handfull of signals of not going out in the water it is only fair that he is scared shitless

He tried to calm, but the truth he was panic that's why he became something you called stupid. But not only him was stupid, also people there, no one guide him, specially women who shouted "dude, you have to swimming" before, she should update/revise her advice. It was even that deep. He could’ve just rolled up his pants and walk off nice and dry. But instead, he choose the less comfortable way.

The guy is clearly panicking. People could have offered to catch his phone, tied their coats together to try get a rope to pull him in. Explained the water isn't too deep and he could walk. Instead everyone was just happy to let him suffer for his mistake while he starts floating away.

There's levels to this game, even when the game is being an idiot. Turns out walking on the ice when there are signs warning you not to is just the first step (literally). Step 2: throw your dry clothes to safety without trying bundling it and watch it get soaked. Step 3: Dive headfirst into 2 feet of water instead of wading back up to your knees.

Somebody needs to put a warm coat, blanket, something on him or he could go into shock. His body heat is tanking once he hit the 🌊 water

At the beginning, he could have used his hands and tried to paddle himself towards the shore. Or if he could see or touch the rocky bottom then the water wasn't that deep for him to walk back to the shore. He would get partially wet rather than diving in and got all wet and cold.

It was just 20cm of water and he dived on the rocks. 🤪

Yeah, let's get half a dozen people soaked wading into the water instead of just him wading to shore. Brilliant, no idea what you're doing at the bottom of the comments thread.

All this fuss, and (1) the guy looks like he's never more than 5 meters from shore, and (2) It looks like the water isn't more than a meter deep. The crowd reaction is insane; if I was listening to this without the video portion, I'd have thought the guy was 100 meters off shore and floating away into the open sea. What he did was dumb, in the sense that he committed himself to getting wet clothes and exposure. But, you can see the water is moving at a snail's pace.

Have seen far too many idiots in Iceland and it's mostly men full of bravado.

I know. Between just standing there looking dumb, putting all of his weight on one end so that the ice float nearly capsizes and his feet get soaked, taking several minutes to remove articles of clothing for then to throw them into the water when he could've just carried them, and finally the swan dive (deliberate or not). Instead of just, you know, wading to shore through 30 cm of water. It's like a scripted scene in a sitcom.
