Idanha-a-Velha is OLDER than Portugal: The MOST Fascinating Town Ever
Fifty kilometers from Castelo Branco and just over thirty from the border with Spain, Idanha-a-Velha looks like an ancient manuscript.
The current historic village of Idanha-a-Velha has just 50 inhabitants and some of its houses are inhabited. However, it had a prominent place during the Roman occupation.
It was the Roman city Civitas Igaeditanorum and was located on the Roman road that connected Mérida to Braga, of which the old Bridge over the Pônsul River still remains.
Idanha-a-Velha is a special case of a historic village because its important past was discovered after several archaeological campaigns, and rebuilt and preserved
