    Non-periodic giant explosions, sounds like serious space battles. Wouldn't that be a hoot? Our first confirmation of aliens wasn't a Hello signal or a Dyson Swarm, but seeing ancient galactic battles. As Anton always says, if it's not magnetars it must be aliens. And it's not magnetars. :)

    The universe is not 13 trillion years old. Only 13 billion. Also events from a galaxy 3 billion light years away are not 3 billion years old... thats due to the expansion. The observable universe has a radius of about 46 billion light years. I think the events would be something like 2.4 billion years old but maybe someone with a calculator and some maths can correct this number.

    If I was a tiny grain sized person and I was trying to get the attention of a regular sized person, flashing a light would be a great way to communicate. So how would the normal sized person be able to recognize your flashing signals from the other 'natural' flashes of light? Without knowing if they speak the same language you might have to come up with a custom language system. And if all the things around you make flashes somewhat naturally in a pattern, you would have to make a special pattern to decode or make random flashes like something not natural compared to the things around you. I am sure they they have thought of this so I don't see how we can count out any sort of phenomenon without absolutely knowing the difference between natural and unnatural light bursts.

  • @tinfoilhomer1535

    Arguable, the least natural pattern of light bursts is the sequence of prime numbers.

  • @GasSnake101

    @GasSnake101

    2 жыл бұрын

    @Tony Smith Well if we found a prime number pattern we would have to consider that if there is one advanced civilization out there, than there are many. The prime numbers would be a too simple bait for the variety of alien life. We would want to find a decipherable language with an actual message keeping in mind the warnings of people like Stephen Hawking on theories pertaining to the dark forest theory. So yeah I doubt we will find simple patterns like this and if we do than we should be careful.

    @@ufodeath They just made the announcement a few days ago. I think they have decided to go ahead (with funding and all that) and now their scientists are probably actively pouring over maps for remote locations within China, and will go to potential suitable locations that they have identified to measure the background radio frequency interruptions. Looking at the map of China, I can see that they may place one in Tibet (located in the West), one in Xinjiang (located in the North West), one in Inner Mongolia (located in the North), one in Shanxi province (right in the heart of China), one on the Hainan Island (located in the South East), and perhaps one in Jiangxi or Fujian province (located in the Eastern portion of China). Those are places that are relatively not developed, with fewer cars and population in surrounding areas. These are just my personal speculations, we'll wait and see. Seeing how the Chinese worked their space program, I won't be surprised to see all five new FASTs spring up like wild mushrooms before 2030.

    If it's all at the same frequency, then the dispersion would all be scattering instead of differing speeds, so the bulk of the dispersion would appear to come from _other_ locations. Also, especially for very distant events, frequencies that interact strongly with the intergalactic medium are more likely to either completely disappear from scattering & absorption, or to appear as the radio equivalent of light pollution due to the extreme degree of scattering.

    This is great! Radio telescopes and interferometer arrays will be giving us such a better picture of the universe, optical telescopes can only see heat and visible light, from that all the theories from big bang to dark matter have arisen. Better answers are coming.

    I think it would be crazy if some of them actually were some form of alien communication that were just not tech evolved enough to know its communication. It could also explain why space seems quiet when it comes to what we assume is the absence of alien communication.

    Active for three months (90 days?) then idle for 67 days, is a strange pattern indeed. If the difference was bigger then It could be something rotating on it’s axis, or something orbiting and blocking.
