I've never once had a screw extractor actually extract, and often snap them. Good to know this one works!

Bought this a few weeks to extract a broken exhaust stud. Was able to drill the stud with the correct bit, but the extractor broke first time it was used…made my day more complicated as I now had to drill out the extractor.

Thanks for a real-world look at these in action! I've been considering grabbing a set - will probably grab them next time there's a good coupon. I haven't needed anything like this for a while (just knocked on some wood...), but wrench enough that I feel like I'm living on borrowed time...

I was trying to decide when and where I would use a spline extractor. And this answered my question. Never needed one. But lots of things use this type of drive these days.

The hex style and torx style fasteners were the main reason i bought this set. i did have a situation with a broken bolt inside of the head of a motor that i drilled and tried to install one of the smaller spline extractors into and actually broke it off which kinda sucked but harbor freight warrantied it no problem

I’ve got the SnapOn set like that, had it for almost 10 years now. I used to think it was useless except for broken fittings (adapters, sensors, etc). Seemed like I could never get a broken screw out with it. It has saved me a bit but I’ve never had luck with the smaller ones. They either break or don’t bite enough.

Now Icon needs the opposite kit set of this one. Such as the high quality and very well made MABLEVI 32 pc. Bolt Extractor set #XS001 and believe Icon will come out with this exact version as it's complete with every size in a nice case. Perfect as a back up whenever you may need it when working on an engine or chassis of an automobile!

The reason that screw wouldn't come out in the first place is because it had blue loctite on it. Some heat from a torch would have made it come out normally. But at least you got to test this tool.

Do you need to drill it out for this to work? I have the same kind of bolt that I need to get out of my transfer case but it is about 4 to 5 in clearance from across beam so I will not be able to get a drill up in there

I have always had 1000x better luck with the extractors shaped like square, old timey nails. Proto makes some beauties. Also, get you some real hex keys. Wera Hex plus. The only way to go. A close second is Bondhus, but nothing less.

don’t feel bad, i had a similar experience with a broken off stud that snapped off in the head of a small engine i was fixing. the drill bit either kept walking and would snap or the hole just wouldn’t go deep enough lol. ended having to weld a washer and a nut to it to get it out which i should have done in the first place. these definitely have a time and a place to use them and i guess in my first experience it was the wrong time lol
