Man I wanted to pick one of these up! I actually had it at the register today. The $499/year updates changed my mind. I just can’t justify it when there’s so many competitors for less. I drove home and studied, I ordered another brand for half the purchase price with $150/year updates and free returns if I’m not happy.

@@MikesMotorsports yeah I'm looking into OtoFix as well (compared TopDon and Xtool), but I can't reach OtoFix via email/web contact/phone for like two weeks. Really makes me nervous about post purchase support. I was trying to figure out the difference between the D1 Pro everyone is reviewing lately and the D1 Max (one step up, only 1 year old vs 3 years old for Pro no reviews period). Think I'll save some more money this year and see if I can get one for Black Friday.

I think this is great. I have been able to replace airbag sensors on a 2022 Chrysler Pacifica with it. This IS NOT a code reader. This is much more than your $100 code reader. This is a diagnostic tool. You can test actuators, cylinder contribution test, voltage tests and does some reprogramming. You cannot buy that for $800 elsewhere. Everyone complaining this should be cheaper shows their automotive knowledge. Personally I’m expecting the price to jump up here soon not go down. Do people really expect to get FREE updates for new vehicles? No company does that. Why would harbor freight?

I mean, I haven't done a ton of research, but from what I have found going with this same kind of Diagnostic tool from a "Name Brand" company is going to cost you a neat $4000-$6000 bucks, sometimes even _more_ if you're into super specialized stuff, and twice the amount for yearly updates as this thing is asking for. Plus you get the very frequent HF coupons and discounts, which I am not doubting this would be subject to eventually as well. It's certainly on my radar for a starting mechanic, thats for sure, though I will still let time tell if it holds up to the hype. So far people seem to like it.

I’ve advocated for Hercules and Daytona, and both make very solid tools. Some shop buddies of mine really seem to like icon, but this is something I would have to try before I would buy. $900 plus the yearly software fee after 2 years makes it seem like this may not be such a great deal. I think it needs a few honest reviews before any serious mechanic is going to buy it

  • @RenegadesGarage

Exactly!! They should send some to real mechanics like myself to use and review them. Not saying they should send anything to me but sending tools to people that doesn't actually use them is kind of dumb. Makes the tool company seem a little bit desperate and foolish.

The model below this I believe the T6 coming soon I believe said comes in around $399 with updates at $199 or $250... might be a better value. I think HF should have 2 update options for the T8 one with Identifix Code Assist for the $499/yr and with out Identfix for $249.00/yr personally as a Auto Professional I already have Identifix and have no need for it to be included and priced into an update. For now OTOFix seems like the reasonably priced option and uses official Autel Software...

I see you chose not to go with the industry-standard LCARS interface. Can it reverse the polarity of the deflector array and reconfigure the warp field to emulate a target profile? Can it adjust the resonance of the nacelles to create a feedback loop that will couple with a nearby cloaked object to cancel and reveal its position?

Cannot justify the $500/yr. subscription side. The initial buy-in isn't terrible, albeit with the 20% off promotions HF offers during the year, it would be easy to purchase. There are comparable units available without that hefty annual buy-in. Hopefully these constructive comments make their way up the chain and HF Corp. do the right thing and roll it down to a reasonable $250/yr. If you want to dominate the auto tech side, you have to think in terms of volume of subscriptions. More techs accessing the same data outweighs less techs paying high rates. Cheers!

Harbor Freight.. Nice scanner but the price should be lower.. At $900 for the scanner plus $499 a year to update it after the free 2 years is a bit to high. There are several scanners on the market that are better for around (+/-) the same price. I would like to try one out to see how it compares to other scanners in this price range.. Can't wait for some of the other Icon tools to be released as well. Thanks for sharing.
