Funny how rich guys who purchase these kinds of things don’t seem to hold on to them. They’re always in and out, buying and selling, passing it on for something else new. This is because they didn’t actually do the creative work. If they did they’d cherish it like a teenager with his first truck does after he’s turned every bolt himself. They’d treat it like a family member and never abandon it.

There's a much deeper issue in play... It's called "The Law of Diminishing Returns" the human heart's deepest yearnings can't be satisfied with things. A wealthy gent at the Barrett I chatted with confirmed this truth. He regularly flips anything and everything money can buy every 6 months.

Very interesting, I think you are on to something. I have never been a real car guy in terms of working on them, at 40 I did for the first time while learning a lot the past few years. I am very much emotionally attached to it with all the time, thought and hours and hours of labor. I'll keep this one forever

Maybe some people who love cars realize that life is short...we can't take one for a drive in the afterlife now can we? So they do their best to restore, own, drive, appreciate and pass on as many rolling sculptures as possible..besides, they're things..not family, friends or pets..just things to enjoy and pass along.

I'm a Ford fan and especially of the 70's models F-100 and F-150. I learned how to drive in a 1966 F-100 with three on the tree. I also owned a 1975 F-250 that was a workhorse. I love seeing trucks like this restored with some upgrades, but still having the original look! The chrome junior west coast mirrors are a really nice touch. Full on west coast mirrors would be too much for this shorty.

One of my favorite eras..I had a 71 shorty sport custom with a 240 six and three on the tree on 31x9s..no hot rod or 4x4 but pound per pound fun was off the meter..put 100k on it after I bought it with 60k ..popped in a long block by myself one weekend and drove it to work on Monday...put another 90k on it before it was stolen up in Oregon...this would help erase some of the sting of loss

I grew up in farm country in the Canadian prairies. I love old trucks. I remember this from the original build video. I love resto mod but I really appreciate when they look almost stock. You guys did such an amazing job with this truck. I remember being blown away by the original parchment/white interior. It looked so retro and clean. I can see that there is enough black in the interior that the new colors do look good. Still amazing. Still way out of my reach. But I love watching these videos and seeing gorgeous vehicles so thank you for sharing.

One of the farm hands needed a pull start on a tractor that had no battery and no one around but me being an eager to help 6 year old. Had to stand to see over the wheel, unfortunately that meant it was hammer down on the skinny pedal. Almost threw the farm hand off the tractor when she bit but we got it started.

The thing I always gravitate towards is the amount of dead air around the wheelwells on some 4x4's an this body is one that the wheel openings need to be filled up not jack up. BEAUTIFUL TRUCK

I am 100% behind Jon on his decision not to touch up the trim paint. He’s right…where do you stop…especially when it’s a resell that’s racking up cost on icon at this point. But, the real point is, it really does hide its tech…and the little bit of wear and fade goes perfectly with this resell. I’m betting the 8500 miles on it were damn near excruciating for the original owner (who most likely was creeping towards a half million dollar build) to even drive. This second owner won’t have all the ties to the truck the original owner did and won’t be so apt to baby it. Jon himself knows what went into the build so he would make it a showroom example. Some new, rich, unbiased owner will use this truck!!! Use it. We all want to see the outcome of 100,000 miles and the roads it travelled, since a lot of what icon builds is based on the fact that the manufacturer cuts corners. Icon doesn’t. Undersea pipe coatings tip to butt…mil-spec wiring for boats!!! Etc etc. this thing is a Sherman tank in an evening dress (if you count new wrangler jeans n boots and evening dress.

I do think some underbelly protection would be excellent. I don’t have any ideas on how to incorporate considering language. But some skid plates for the radiator, oil pan, transmission, transfer case, diff, and gas tank would be nice. Even if it looked like the black sheet metal from nowadays oem trucks. Just to “hold its dress up” while splashing through some muddy puddles. Sometimes there’s rocks and stumps in them muddy puddles.

I know icon has done it before where they’ve morphed an old body onto a new chassis. A 71-76 bumpside short bed graphed onto a raptor chassis and internals would be cool. Considering ford uses lightweight aluminum, maybe would have to use a custom Kore carbon fiber body! Now wouldn’t that be cool. A 100% carbon fiber ‘76 body on a 2023 raptor R chassis and driveline???!!!
