7 years after the 7300 was first introduced it's still a good solid radio. I'm looking to buy my first HF radio and this video was very informative to help make a decision in choosing the best radio for me..
Watched it again 4 years later. Still such a great video.
Just purchased the 7300. Been off air for decades..... now a definite learning curve!! Looking forward to it.
I remain amazed and amused at all the negative comments from "so called" seasoned hams who can't find anything good to say about the 7300. What they really mean to say is how bummed they are that a 1300 dollar rig outperforms all that crap they've been buying over the years; they find it almost impossible to admit they now own boat anchors that are only a few years old. A simple look at the RF specs of the 7300 will reveal it is easily on par with rigs costing 3 times as much. I bought one 3 weeks ago; running barefoot into a simple end fed...already worked 14 countries and have drilled thru pileups w/o problem.

100 watts is 100 watts... I dont give a fuck what radio it comes out of. You make it sound as if it can magically work DX... seriously.

I agree. But to show that not all old timers have their head in the sand, I'm 73 years old, I started in ham radio over 50 years ago, and to me today's new transceivers with onboard SDR based receiver design are a quantum leap ahead of my old Collins S-Line. No contest. Your demo provides a good overview of how the unit is actually operated. Thumbs up from me, and thanks for leading the way into the future of amateur radio. Those who can't keep up will be simply be left behind.

The fantastic thing about the 7300 is that everyone wants one because its a lot of bang for your buck. Also Other radios are going down in price so you can probably find a non-7300 radio at a damn good price! give your oldest radios to newbies and upgrade!
FYI if anyone was wondering, the Emergency button in others allows you to transmit in an emergency situation with a 10:1 SWR to attempt contact for life and death scenarios for short burst transmissions. That is a pretty cool feature to have if you need it. 73's KC3FIH
One of the nicest done reviews I've seen done by anybody, nice job . Concise and no gimmickry! 73's Ray NV2A
I thought I´d never purchase any more new radio until I saw the 7300 in action. I´ve been a ham for the past 51 years. Enjoyed tube and transistor made rigs. My last purchase was 35 years ago. It was the time to jump over the SDR style and see what was going on and after one year all I can say is that this rig outperforms all my spectatives. A good radio for 1,200 € indeed. Posted by EA7PS
Picking up my 73 tomorrow, was very pleased to have the best démo overview I could wish for. Many thanks.
I am completely new to HAM radio. A month or so I decided I would look into it and came upon your videos for the 7300. After a bunch of research I decided it was the radio for me and this amateur radio thing would be great fun for me. I also live in a desert region with regular fires, so the extra safety of comms hit home. You made this appear to be an easy to operate and functionable radio so I looked up Gigaparts and asked what I needed to get set up. I've ordered the radio/power supply/tuner/ant setup and will find exams when I get back stateside. Thanks for a great video, you got a new subscriber.
your review is the best I seen yet on Ham radios, you sold me, I am buying this radio..Thanks for the review
I've had IC-725, 735, 718, Yaesu FT 450, 991, 767GX, Kenwood 440's. This kills them all. Amazing rig for under $1000.
This was a fine, well-delivered presentation. I have been a ham for 62 years, and I have had every type of rig. I now have an Icom 7300, and it is a real game changer. K5ODZ, x-HC1TH (2nd in the world wide DX contest, 1969 and 1970).
Been a ham for 34 years and absolutely love the hobby! My current HF equipment is quite antiquated to say the least so I am very much interested in upgrading very soon! This radio looks very impressive and for the price, I think that it would be well worth the investment! Thank you, sir, for the presentation and thank you, GigaParts, for allowing the presenter the opportunity to demonstrate it! 73, N4ZTU!
This is my first HF rig and it is a great one. Now, just after being a Tech for 40 years, I am learning all the features and implementation on this IC 7300. My first contact was to Taos, New Mexico with a 12 V battery for power, and transmitting at 20 watts. My power supply is on a truck headed to me, I hope.
Have ordered a 7300, waiting for it to arrive. I’m excited!! This vid was very informative and helpful. Thank you so much for doing the work!
Just purchased this radio, just like Kent Blacklidge, been off air for quite a while, going to upgrade to General during Covid-19 or within a few months, going to donate probably all or most of my old Heath SB gear to a Radio museum, and hope to find a model railroad net to join up in to share that hobby as well. I will have lots to learn with this new radio, for sure. Thanks again for showing all the neat features of this radio. I just hope my old IC2GAT brick still works. 73's, Dave
I owned a ft-450D, a very nice radio. It’s gone and this is in its place. Not even in the same ballpark! I was a die hard Yaesu guy, but this radio won me over to Icom!
I have owned several Icoms over the years, IC-781, IC-775DSP and still have a IC706MKIIG. I think I just found my new radio.
A very detailed and thorough review, thanks so much! Just saw this at HRO today and I'm thinking when the time is right I need one in my shack..
I bought this radio on DX Engineering for Christmas. It is December 23, 2018, so I hope it gets here in time! I can't wait to try it out!!!!
Thanks for the review. I definitely learned several things I didn't know that my IC-7300 could do. Great video!
Excellent review Eric! Much appreciated! Your videos sold me on this rig and my IC-7300 is on the way. Hats of to Giga-Parts for loaning you this rig for review.

You will love the rig. My first SS radio was a Ft 757 gxii. I wore out the front faceplate on it. Graduated to a Flex 1000 12 years ago. The SDR type rigs can do a lot. No roofing filters etc.. needed. Have a Flex 6400 today and purchased a 7400 for portability.
just bought my 7300 but haven't made it home yet from out of town to hook up and play, YOur video really excited me to how great of a radio this is. Thanks for your overview video.
Been waiting to order this radio but your video put me over the edge. Just ordered it from Giga Parts, thanks for a super tutorial
I just bought my 7300 one month ago. I learned a lot from your video. THANK YOU! I have been a ham for 56 years and this radio got me back in the game. Great video, you did an awesome job. Greg KO8A

got my 7300 today thanks for the great review!
Great review, so glad I found your channel!
IN ONE WORD, INCREDIBLE, ALL BASES COVERED. GREAT PRESENTATION!
Awesome overview, just ordered this radio and can't wait to try it out.
I bought this as my first HF rig. There sure is a ton to learn but even as a HF newbie it is easy to see and feel this is a fine radio. I love the audio quality of it. Ive hooked up external speakers, but the internal speaker is what I gravitate to. Thank you for posting the video. I learned a lot. De KD5TRI.
I used to be a BIGTIME SW listener, had my passive antenna set up to my AT, then to my Grundig, and upgraded to a Radio Shack DX-398 📻. Did GREAT! Fell out of the hobby, I'm back in now, but I'm studying to become a ham. And this is the FIRST transceiver I bought, the Icom 7300. I looked at others, but decided on this. From all accounts, I made a great choice. The reviews are unreal. Everything I would need or want in a HF transceiver/ first time transceiver. Can't wait to get it up and running and get on the air. The best buy you'll get in a radio for a thousand dollars💸, easy.
Pulled the trigger yesterday on this rig after watching your review. Mentioned you call sign.
Hey Eric, I know this is a older video but I got mine yesterday. 4/09/2020. It's even better than what you showed in this video. Chalk it unto a great system. I don't think I'll need another HF Rig for a really long time to come. As always I appreciate what you do for our community. You're a great ambassador for the Hobby. 73, Harry K9HDT
Thank you for the great review of this radio- I've been an ICOM fan since the late 1980's. 73 DE N7LTH
Thanks for the review. Great job. I’m a Yaesu Guy as well but the scope and ease of operation of the IC 7300 is impressive. I’m thinking this is my next rig!
That interference at you showed at 8:00 to 8:09 might be caused by a 3579.545 MHz colorburst crystal in some piece of consumer equipment in the household. Those crystals are so plentiful and cheap, and they make a decent CPU clock source. Just a guess on my part. Great video, you did a really fine presentation!
Great video. I have a IC-7300 coming to me now to replace a FT-450D that has problems, which I use on 6 meters only. I really didn't know what I had ordered until I watched this video. Now I can't wait to turn it on for the first time. I also have a IC-7610 coming this fall and after watching your video, I'm getting excited about that also.
That's an amazing rig! Good job on the overview.
this will be my next radio.

Great review! I checked out the IC-7300 at Hamvention 2016 and I'm only a click away from ordering! Amazing rig for $1500.00 w/FREE shipping through most major dealers.
I have one of these. There is a lot to learn, which is why I was glad you did this video. This video needs to be watched over and over. Others were too long(1 Hour) or too short for what needs to be covered. Thank you for doing this.
Very nice ICOM-7300 Video, you are a good presenter. Enjoyable and concise.
i bought one of these rigs a few months ago. I'm Very impressed of all the features this radio has. It has such a small form factor, i was impressed how compact it is. When i hooked it all up i was still getting so much QRN as i was from my yaesu frg 100 receiver. As it turns out it was my home security camera/dvr system, So if you have a system like that, check that out because it creates alot of RFI. Great review and great radio. i would recommend to all.
Just purchased the ic-7300 HAM radio new subscriber here
All of your videos are fantastic and well explained
LOVE it just got my New IC=7300 still learning how to drive it but is a blast Hours of Fun and what a fantastic radio
Buying soon, great review. Thank you!
I love this radio it’s Awesome. So easy too use thank Eric
Brilliant vidio..you have the best videos on utube ..love watching them and getting tips and tricks i might have missed..keep em coming
Hi Eric...what a terrific vid!! On the recommendation of Dave Casler (KE0OG) on a live-stream, I checked out this radio. WOW! I just bought this unit and it'll be my HF rig for years to come. Thanks so much for your video--I bookmarked it and will review it for future reference. I appreciate your efforts with this radio!!
Great video. Setting up my shack soon and just purchased my 7300.73 Mike K2CDM
Waiting for mine to arrive, great info, 73.
Outstanding!!! Can't wait to get my rig setup & turned on, Thank You for going through the many features saving time & understanding. Excellent operations presentation. KD0FDF currently at Fort Lewis, WA 73's
I thought I would NEVER purchase a new radio, but I got the bug when watching these video's on the 7300 and I bit the bug. I have to admit that the receive audio is absolutely outstanding. Even on tough bands like 80m, the audio is great. I have been using a FT 920 for years and have never had a problem with noise, but it does not compare to the quiet of the 7300. I can't wait to get on digital.
Great review thanks - got mine out of the box today for the first time. Looking forward to getting it on the air. 73's 2E0XCZ
Wow what a radio, alot for the price too. Nice review of a feature packed rig. Subbed!
Great review and demo! Thanks.
Well done! I'm sold... Been using a IC-756 ProII for several years, just want a new tech unit.
A very thorough walk through of the 7300. Thank you. I'm still up in the air between Icom and Yeasu.

John Stein are you kidding me? this thing blows away any Yaesu I have ever seen
Just saw your review while traveling here in Tokyo Japan, Akihabra district, and I am considering to go back on Ham radio after over 20 years on QSK...Lol...I was surprised to see the price point of this rig is in the $1K+ & as we speak, Amazon is selling for about $1,230.00 . I was under the impression that these rigs like Kenwood was in the $4K range, and again, I was shocked to see the ICOM 7300 in that prize range....thanks for sharing... By the way, I used to be KH4AB back in the late 70's stationed at Naval Air Station Midway Islands ...
Excellent review! I subscribed. Thank you and 73.
Thanks! Surely sells the rig and well presented...echo the “no gimmickry” approach! Well done! 73, John/N6VTS PS: Hope you get to have one, not just the loaner..hi hi!
I really like the way it's setup and the fact it's portable, I've seen some radios with so many buttons on the front that you would need a book just o learn them. But the IC-7300 would be a great radio for anyone getting into hf.
Great Video walk through, thanks much. Trying to decide between this and the Yaesu FTdx-10..
When I first saw this Radio and the Yaesu FT-991/A, I wasn't sure which radio to choose from, but when I saw the review of the Icom 7300 and unique features it has and what it can do this will be my New HF Rig! 73's from K0ELY
Thank You. This video was very helpful!
This was a great detailed review. I was going to get the FT-991A but now I think this is the way to go instead. 73.
Thank you Eric I love all your videos! Bought one of these after watching this. 73 KN4FPF
Absolutely amazing indeed!
Great review , I want one!
Nice demo. Thank you.
great video, well explained, good looking radio ,the display is the way foward. They go for around 800 euro second hand, end of the month might part ex my kenwood ts 450 sat for one.
I got my 7300 from GigaParts after watching this video, like a week ago. I initially wanted to get a ts590 but then you changed my mind (so if anything goes wrong it's also your fault! :-) But so far I'm a happy camper. BTW GigaParts had it shipped and in Fedex's hands within 2 hours of placing my order. About 20 hours later the package arrived at my door shipped from out of state for free. Good job GigaParts and thanks HRC for the video. Cheers! Cris K6LAD
Thank you, I now have one. KM6ESG :)
The more I am watching, the more I like this transceiver. Especially TX mod from 100 kHz up to 74 MHz.
Excellent review, remember the fast and slow tune with the small switch at the bottom of the tuning dial !!! great presentation.... G4WZI
well done great review.regards from the uk..
I have been saving up to get one!
I’m getting my 7300 today so looking forward to it

How it works?
Super Cool. Going to buy one as a second Radio. Now running a Yaesu FTDX 1000.
Come on guys, what ever happened to the helpfull and friendly demeanour we radio hams should show to one another?
Excellent presentation.
i liked this review you did, i will be buying the ic 7300 to work hf 50mhz and 70mhz in the uk, next radio to buy is the icom 9700, many thanks for your very intresting view on the icom 7300, 73 mike m1key m0fcg
Okay, you convinced me. So, I went online to GigaParts and ordered the radio with the rebates where the net cost to me was less than $1,000. But, I had a question at 9 pm on a Saturday night. Up comes the chat icon at Gigaparts. I'm thinking "no way those guys are there at 9 pm." Wrong. I had a nice conversation with a rep who told me what parts to order to make the 7300 work with my Heil Headphones. And he gave me a free ball cap to boot. I can see why you are loyal to Gigaparts. They are a terrific place to deal with. Your description of the 7300 is what sold me, however. You were the only YT on here who actually went through what I wanted to know. Well, almost. You didn't do much with the digital modes on there, but that's okay, I found that elsewhere. I love the fact that you can do Digital modes and control the radio both through the same onboard sound card. HRD and WSJT-X are super easy with the 7300. Thanks for taking time to review a radio you don't own to help those of us who don't have a day to spend learning the radio in the store. Great job Eric. 73 AD0DQ
I`ve heard noise like that before. It was from a blinking traffic light out on the street.
Great review! Thanks
No idea how I ended up on this video, but I’m strangely fascinated. I went from watching defense attorneys cross examine witnesses in court to here. And I’m not mad about it.
I love this radio!
Nicely done. You move along quickly enough but not too fast. I'm thinking I'll be buying one of these.

Ham Radio doesn't use "channels". We get on "frequencies". Just bein' picky!
Excellent video! I have a couple of radios already but always looking for a new upgrade and I think this is it. I have been a self-taught Ham since 2010, on again and off again because work and life keeps me from working with it for very long. And honestly, this video has cleared up a lot of functions I have on my TS2000(which I love) and how to effectively use them!! Been watching your videos for a while and you do a great job! Thanks and 73"s KI4TED p.s. Ive also just bought my first amp and there are no good videos on the AL811 amp for tuning. Maybe you could work one of those in?! It came with a manual and a quick tune guide and both directions are not the same.
OK you've convinced me to get one.
Great video, sure looks like a perfect rig but that somehow takes the fun out of it for me...
Very nice rig for the money. I think I will wait for the IC7650, hi. I want two receivers, cw and rtty decode, bigger knobs. And more antenna inputs. Imagine this radio in a large format rig....Goodbye Flex.

Earl O I have a 7600 and it does digital modes but I really don't use it because I typically use hrd for all that stuff as far as the knobs go does the same size I use one of these 7300s at field day and can tell you it's an amazing radio I was thinking about getting a 7610 and have a deposit on one but I'm thinking now the 7300 meets my needs so not so sure that I need to spend the extra money

Mine arrives tomorrow!
Hello, HRC! I've just discovered a new concept arising out there in the ham radio business world. It's star-to-forehead day! Just wanted to let you know that I just bought a 7300 at DX Engineering @ 3:00AM this morning for $899.xx, charged transaction to my VISA! Now at 10:00AM I get a call from DXE saying ICOM won't let them honor the sale! I said then let ICOM know that the 7300 was my second ICOM HF Base purchase from you (and them), previously having purchased a new 7200. They said sorry, but they can't fulfill the transaction!!! I said...well, you're not yet sorry enough!
I'm thinking about getting one of these this year. A lot of money involved in CB and HAM radio. Takes years to build great radios and knowledge. It's fun, rewarding, and great. I don't think that it's a thing to rush though. Let's say I had $10,000 gave to me a year and a half ago to spend only on radio equipment. I would get a bunch of things I didn't know how to use or just not ready for. That's why I'm saying it's not a thing to rush. It's an enjoyable journey.
