Ichthyosaur Rib Cage | Fossil Hunter

Here is another video from one of our fossil hunts, make sure to stick around the end of the video to see the special fossil at the end! This time, a shale-preserved scattering of Ichthyosaur bones, along with a belemnite! This is an insight into the past, what life was like 180 Million Years Ago even before many of the most famous land-dwelling Dinosaurs ever existed. Now, turned to stone, these fossils are falling from their stoney resting place of the cliffs and onto our beaches.

The ammonites you collect remind me of the fossil ghost crabs I find here between Indian Harbor Beach and Patrick Air Force Base of Brevard county, Florida at low tide. Fun to find these little critters but can be rare at times. Ever come here to the beaches here, you might be lucky.

Fantastic video Aaron, those Ichthyosaur bones are superb and top quality! Cant beat the sound of the gulls on the beach, strangely soothing to me at least.

I wish I could split the nodules as good as you do. Me and my other half are new to fossiling we love it but our extraction methods are bit hit and miss . My mum suggested that I use an axe to get in one nodule so I did. Result was a ruined fossil and a cut thumb but it learned me a lesson. Thanks for the informative videos we really enjoy them

You're most welcome, opening the nodules is something we've carefully learnt over around a decade, so takes time to perfect! We've never tried an axe

Awesome video my friend.👍🏻 Your prep equipment is amazing with the engraving pen and the sandblasting machine. I haven't had the opportunity to buy these types of prep equipment so far. I just have a cheaper engraving machine (to prep some ammonites from German quarries). Keep up your work. Greetings from Germany

So long as they are loose from the cliff and shale beds (i.e. not in-situ) and it’s not an SSSI site, then it is okay to collect fossils responsibly.
