Here's a recap of all the songs that competed for Iceland in Eurovision Song Contest from 1986 to 2024. Please, enjoy!
Iceland has participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 36 times since its debut in 1986, missing only two contests since then, in 1998 and 2002, when prevented from competing due to finishing outside qualification places the preceding years. The country's best result is second place, which it achieved with Selma in 1999 and Yohanna in 2009. The Icelandic broadcaster for the contest is Ríkisútvarpið (RÚV), which also broadcasts Iceland's national selection competition, Söngvakeppnin.
Iceland has achieved a total of seven top ten placements, with the others being Stjórnin finishing fourth (1990), Heart 2 Heart seventh (1992), Birgitta eighth (2003), Hatari tenth (2019) and Daði og Gagnamagnið fourth (2021). Since the introduction of the semi-final round in 2004, Iceland has failed to qualify for the final nine times, including four years consecutively (2015-18). To date, Iceland is the only Nordic country that has yet to win the contest.

@@shrexxxx Yes, "Slow Down" was amazing, by far the best song that year, but the whole situation around Sjonni's Friends, plus the popularity of Magni, made people not give her a chance.
I really hope we get our shit back together and send something amazing like we did in 2019-2022

2022 wasn't acually so great for me it was 38th place and it was shock when it qualified, but 2023 was underrated

I've just realised that two my favourite Icelandic entries both feature lead singers clad in black leather.
2012’s Never Forget is my all time favourite Eurovision song and I still listen to it. It’s so underrated and I’m sad it didn’t do better in the competition Hera should have qualified this year

Icelands 1989 entry is the brother of my mom’s friend, he’s well known in Iceland and is a judge on icelands version of idol. I’ve never met him but his sister is really nice, I’ve known her since I was a literal baby
Hatari is my favourite ever ESC act and studio song (I have a separate favourite live song). I'm so glad to have discovered them, and I'm thankful that they've reignited my love for the Icelandic language. It's incredible to have such an act be part of Eurovision history! 🖤❤ 1. 10 years would have probably fared better if not in its predecessor’s shadow, though discotheque beating it to 12 means that on fire could have done likewise
Eurovision veterans this year in both Eurovision Song Contest (Hera and Natalia) and National Finals (The Roop, Konstraka, Mahmood, KEIINO, Etc.) was a curse year for them due to the success of Loreen and Luxembourg's big return.

Whatever I’d have thought about the act and all his multitudes and contradictions, and how much unwanted press his would have lead to (even though many of the questions asked about his asked would still be asked in calmer times in the area even if someone had the magic wand to solve everything), it was certainly the shock of the season and Songvakeppnin’s Br*xit moment.

My favorite 1997, 2000, 2010
They could have won (or at least achieved another top result) with Bashar, but nope, they instead choose a song that ended up in last place, but that's what happens when you have a superfinal, especially if only the televote decides. I'm speaking from experience in my own country, btw.

Sad Fact: If there were no juries at all in Söngvakeppnin this year, VÆB would advance to the superfinal instead of Hera… They were my favourites next to Bashar…

After three ladies and a gentleman failed to qualify from 2015 to 2018, Iceland went mad and sent Hatari with their hammer guy 😂. The Eurovision audience hears the Icelandic bell ringing ever since. But since they send ladies again, they fail to qualify. Europe can be weird at times.

So sad to see Iceland fall down so drastically after beginning this decade as a potential winner contender. One day the Nordic region will be completed, but only if Iceland can get its act together and make a comeback of the ages.

Iceland was relegated due to its poor results average and had to sit out 1998 . Before the semi finals were introduced in 2004, there used to be a relegation system from the 90s into the early 2000s where the worst performing countries would sit out a year to either allow new countries debut and keep the show from running too long with too many countries competing.
2010 the title is not Icelandic
Iceland never was my winner. It was my runner-up twice, in 1987 and 1990. It never was my last place.

Selma was robbed in 1999!! So much better than generic Sweden . . . lots of other great songs / singers in here including Jonsi, Yohanna, Paul Oscar, Birgitta, Hera Bjork (in 2010 at least!) and of course Dadi and co. What is it about terrible fashion though . . . those dresses for Yohanna and Hera Bjork were, um, interestingly voluminous . . .
