Ice off at Strawberry has finally arrived!
Спорт
My buddy and I went up to Strawberry reservoir for some fly fishing action at ice off. We took our boats expecting a lot of open water but found very little. We ended up just fishing from the bank for the first half of the day and got into some fish. We later took out our boats over to the Ladders to give that a try

WE will be at strawberry bay campground for the 2nd week of June, what and where would you suggest from there, I fly fish, bobber rigs and buggers, maybe a dry fly or mouse?

That's a good time of year. You can hang chironomids or leeches under an indicator. You strip in minnows or leeches. You can also throw big dries like mice, chernobles etc. Some years there's a good cicada hatch going on around that time. You can have a blast catching big cutts on cicadas. As far locations go, you can just fish right in the bay area. Renegade or the chicken creek areas are good as well as the Ladders area.

I find myself constantly daydreaming of the backcountry this time of year
What setup were you using in their video?
@TroutHowler
Жыл бұрын
Just a 10 ft intermediate sink tip line and a black and red balanced leech
Looks like a good day out with the Stone man. Nice job as always

It was probably just a slightly better time than what you just went through
I was surprised there was any open water. You can always count on an endless supply of slot cutts and small bows.

Very true, that's pretty much the norm for ice off at the Berry
I can see my truck in the background. I caught three right there two really nice ones when sun came out then it was done. Glad it wasn't just me lol. Then drove around for about two hours looking for more spots to fish still a lot of ice

@@TroutHowler one more thing how is the fishing there
Well done! Thinking of heading up in the next few days but sounds like all the ice melted totally off. Is ice off only good right as it melts off or does it stay good for the next few weeks?
@TroutHowler

It should stay pretty good for a couple of weeks using wooly buggers/leeches, minnows, rapalas etc from shore. After that chironomids under an indicator kick in.. A midge tip line with chironomids should also produce but I'm fairly new to that style of fishing and am certainly no expert. Check out Fly fish foods channel and learn from the three friendly wizards about midge tip fishing
Great video and great fish! I’m hoping to go up there this week. How many people were fishing there?

We were by our selves for the first couple of hours but quite a few people showed up later in the day. When we headed over to the Ladders it was a different story. There were a a ton of people fishing.
Can't wait to get out there for the first time! Love the vids. How do you set up your line here? Those leaches are killer!

I was using an intermediate sink tip line but a floating line works just fine as well. The fish are usually fairly shallow during ice off. The balanced leeches are indeed awesome but in all reality not necessary for that type of fishing. Stripping any dark colored wooly bugger or leech style pattern should produce
Was you guys there Sat or Friday
