Ice Fishing Trout in WA State - FIRST TIME! (Brook and Rainbows!)

Doing a bit of research, it turns out there's a lake to ice fish at that's not so far away!
Robert and I took the day to give it a shot. It's a first for me, as I never even knew we could ice fish so close to home.
We ended up with a bunch of brook trout and one rainbow, but I am not so good at ice fishing yet!
Overall it was a pretty fun experience and I can see myself trying it again. I'd love to go for panfish, too, but lakes with hard water and panfish are considerably further away...

Hell yeah man. That was a fun trip.
So cool to watch this. I've never been ice fishing but the whole process is fascinating to me. Nice catches especially the last one.

I don't miss my hand auger, powered is the way to go if you're going to really get into ice fishing. Glad you got to get on some hard water.

Yeah! The ones that just hook up to hand drills look sweet. Maybe if I lived closer to more ice fishing opportunities... I already justified this one by telling myself it can also drill post holes or something lol

@@FishandForage don't use it for anything but ice those blades can be a pain to sharpen. I have done it but still a pain. I bought my gas auger used about eight years ago and still going strong. I had to replace the carb on it a couple years back but other than that it won't die. The funny thing is I have been wanting an electric one but have been waiting for my gas one to die but it keeps going. Just like other forms of fishing build up your tackle over the years. Thanks to my wife and kids I finally have a fish finder and that has been awesome this year. Truthfully in your case I'd get a good ice fishing rod before just about anything else.

@@kantill shhh... Don't let my wife see that comment! It's totally a post digger... ;) and yeah, the long rod was not a deal breaker, but I can see how those actual ice rods would be nice
Ughhh that looks cold. I really want to try ice fishing, but I don’t want to drive to it and I don’t want to fish in the cold. 😂

It was suuuper windy. Really glad I bundled up and had many layers. Overall I was pretty comfortable! It's worth a try - I'd do it again, I think. :)
