Legend has it that Brandon was under the ice herding all the brookies to Jay's holes ;) Some crazy action out there! Love that you're promoting budget ice fishing, Jay. My family started ice fishing in 2020 when money was tight, and we made do with a hand auger, 4 rods, some lures and not much else. It's doable guys! (Disclaimer: I got addicted and now I have an electric auger, 2 electronics, a ton of Frostbite rods, a smitty sled, and tons of other stuff. lol)

3 yrs ago I was doing it on a budget since I wasn't sure if ice fishing was for me. Turns out I can't get enough of it! Now, I have a Clam shelter, Mr. Big Buddy Heater, Garmin Striker Ice sonar and so on. Only thing that sucks is that I live in P.A and every year we don't get ice. Jay has created a monster here and I want to thank you for opening up a new hobby for me. I've always been a avid fisherman but ice fishing is my absolute favorite!

"you probably have an axe" for $0 you can cut into your neighbors garage and use all his stuff! :) Great point on asking to use someone's auger. I think we've all been there where you ran out of gas or forgot a battery or forgot the auger, I agree 99% of folks will let you use theirs or punch some for you if you ask respectfully.

Due to seasonal work most of my opportunities for ice fishing have come in the later season when we have 2’ of snow on top of 3-4’ of ice so I bought an old 8” Jiffy 30 for $100, got it tuned up pretty well, got a shelter and Aqua-Vu for Christmas years ago, main thing I’m still lacking is a snowmobile but I can beg and borrow for now. Always like seeing people do it the old school way though 👍
