ICE FISHING 2018. Trying for more Northern Pike.

Zachary and I hit the ice once again trying for Northern Pike. It was a slow fishing day but we did not get skunked. Another great day on the ice with my Son.

    Nice to see y’all have an awesome father and son relationship. So important in these trying days. Makes it much better when you live closer together also. Unfortunately my boys live 6 and 8 hours away. Youngest and his family coming for a visit next month. We were able to meet our new Great Grandson this past weekend. Granddaughter and her husband came for a visit from Ft. Hood, Texas. He will be leaving on March 8th for deployment to Kuwait and Iraq for next 9-10 months. Please keep him and his family in your prayers, thanks Joe. Really enjoyed your video as always.

    I really enjoy watching your videos. Years ago my father worked for a travel magazine and during the summers we would spend a lot of time in Minnesota and surrounding states going back and forth from campgrounds rating them, etc. your videos bring back a lot of fond memories and I just wanna thank you for that! My dad passed away a few years back and those summers we had a lot of good times. We set up base in Park Rapids and went out from there. One day I’ll get to go back and spend some time up there again. Thanks for doing what you guys do, keep up the good work.

    Hey fellas, great video. Just a little tip for setting up your pop-up in heavy wind. I always spread it out and then put 2 anchors in on the windy side. That way it's not a big open kite. Helps a little bit anyways.

  • @jessemarden6642
    @jessemarden66426 жыл бұрын

    Great video guys! Im not sure if you've saw them yet, but they make an attachment for a cordless drill to screw in those ice anchors. I always hated trying to put them in by hand with a stiff wind. Another thing I do with them is to use it to wind the spools on my tip ups. I have HT's version and it fits pretty well over the "t" bar on my beaver dams. Its makes resetting and respooling much faster. Good luck guys. Wish I had more time on the ice, but with all the rain and flooding in southern Wisconsin I think its time to break out the long rods.

    Nice fishing! It's almost hard to believe that yesterday I was fishing out of my kayak,catching fish in open water,this early in the year. We had a few really warm days here,and I took advantage of them. The temps here are going to drop a bit,but still not get really cold,and pretty much stay above freezing in the daytime. There is open water, and I highly doubt anyone is going to have any prospects for ice fishing here anymore,except for up north.

    Also, I see zack has a wonderful marcum flasher....instead of using a tape measure, just plop the transducer down the hole and use the flasher to tell you the depth....it is also more efficient.

    Hey Joe, Where the heck is all the snow? We've haven't had an over abundance up here either. We have about 8-12"...its usually almost double or triple that this time of year. But we've had some really cold temps all winter long. Lake of the Woods has over 5' of ice. Crazy, I've never seen it that thick before.

  • @JoeandZachSurvival

    @JoeandZachSurvival

    6 жыл бұрын

    I heard on the radio that the cold temps are actually pretty normal but the previous 3 years were warm so it seems harsh. It has been cold for sure. They got about 16 inches of snow a few days ago up at the Tent.Here at the house we do not have much. It sounds like 3 to 4 inches coming tomorrow and maybe 4 to 6 on Saturday and another shot at snow next week. I am hightailing it south this Friday at about noon after an on site work meeting. Looks like I will need to go past St Louis MO before the temperatures start to warm. It is 88 right now at the Louisiana house. It is 14 here at the Minnesota house. I cant wait. Lol.

    If you are close to Truckee California (Tahoe area) Donner lake will get good ice every couple years or so. Also some other easy access lakes in area. Just bring a friend and learn how to use safety gear, ice spud, rope, cleats and ice picks. Safe ice comes and goes quick there, safe ice is usually along shore but use spud always for ice depth checking and creep your way out to deeper water but descent trout in the lakes to try to catch. Use small spoons with powerbait.

    Nobody DRIVES on Donner lake, do they? I can't imagine the ice getting that thick here. It might at much higher elevations, above 9000'. I just have never heard of driving pickup trucks out on a lake anywhere in California! I want to do the whole thing. Truck, tent, hole in the ice, buddy heater, & beer.
