Aybige makes an offer to Bali Bey which he cannot reject.
At the age of 26, when he ascended to the throne, Sultan Suleiman aimed to build an empire more powerful than Alexander the Great and to render the Ottomans invincible. Throughout his 46-year reign, he became the greatest warrior and ruler of both East and West.
The young Suleiman received news of his succession to the throne during a hunting party in 1520. Unaware that he would be ruling a reign beyond his dreams, he left behind his wife son and took to the road with his close friend and companion Pargali Ibrahim to reach the Topkapi Palace in Istanbul. As they started their journey overland, an Ottoman ship set sail from Crimea in the Black Sea, bringing female slaves as gifts for the Ottoman palace… On this ship was Alexandra La Rossa, the daughter of a Ukrainian Orthodox minister, taken away from her family and sold to the Crimean palace. She had no idea that she would become Hurrem, wife of Sultan Suleiman and mother of princes, ruling the empire with him through bloodshed and intrigue.
As Sultan Suleiman conquered the world, his great passion for Hurrem would clash with his love for and trust in his closest friend and advisor, Grand Vizier Pargali Ibrahim, all set against the backdrop of the tension between Christian Europe and the Ottoman Empire in the 16th century.

Hürrem's smile over realizing he didn't ask Süleyman was perfect. All the power going to his head threatening to behead the guy if he didn't like the statue... Messed up.

@Ahmad munif I strongly believe that Sah doesn't hold Hurrem accountable for what happened to Ibrahim, even though his loss got her somewhat upset as well. She had her own reasons to dislike Hurrem. But yeah, Ibrahim brought this on himself. He wasn't listening to anyone

Sultan had limitless power so he could do almost anything without question but with Ibrahim I believe him making his own statue put him on equal footing with the sultan and this was a problem as they aren’t equals. I know that islamically it’s wrong but honestly very few Muslim rulers lived exemplary lives. 🥲

The dresses are beautiful, but 1000% wrong. The style you see wasn't even a thing for a couple hundred more years. I sort of understand why the show did this though, what they actually wore would have made the show less "interesting"

I think in the ottoman empire, these dresses could not be a thing at all, considering they're too showy for a misogynistic, conservative theocracy.

Yeah, the costuming is, overall, something I file under historical changes such as women of the harem being able to meet privately with statesmen-impossible in real life but integrated to keep the plot moving in a way that harms little for the overall story.

@@imane5819 i agree but even though the ottoman empire was a dynasty that followed the rules of our Holy Quran very strictly, i think the body coverage rule didn't apply to the slaves and concubines. That might be because most of the concubines are christian so they don't need to cover their chest and necks with clothing because they weren't muslim yet. And the reason they might be wearing revealing dresses because they're concubines. Their only job is to seduce the Sultan with their bodies and make them feel good so that they can get pregnant and give birth to a heir. Third, I've observed how the Sultanas and concubines cover themselves with a big piece of clothe whenever they're meeting a man who isn't a shehzade or Sultan. An example of this is Hurrem covering herself whenever she went to meet Ibrahim.

@@seiniboo it's a possibility tbh, but according to some real historical description of their clothing, they wore small hats adorned with jewels, some sort of trousers that went down to their mid-calf, and very ornated shoes. I think it was some foreign ambassador (french or english?) describing them from what he saw from a small window some agha allowed him to look through.

@@imane5819 oh yeah I know about the trousers! Nowadays those trousers are called Harem pants but back then, the turkish called/still calls them 'Salwar'. I'm Pakistani and we call them Shalwar as our Urdu language is VERY similiar to turkish. Women and men today wear shalwar a lot. Shalwar is like a very comfy, long and airy from inside, kinda poofy tbh. Shalwar is very modest as it doesn't reveal any skin or any part of our legs except the foot and has existed since the 13th century and is still worn everyday. Lol fun fact, I'm wearing a Shalwar while typing this 💀

She didn’t make up anything nor did she slander. Also how can you even fault Hurrem for being against Ibrahim after he murdered Leo before her eyes and used that matter to threaten her and her children’s lives? 🥴
