.....Sorry I wanted to say "oya" is also a commanding word it literally means "let's go!" This is different to Oya the sacred deity mighty river that is worshipped by the people that you correctly refer to as Oba Oya because she has mystical power as are also powerfully fierce. Her mythologic symbol is a fierce looking strong and powerful female holding an axe arm stretched out above her head in a striking pose depicting a strong sense against injustice

I'm here from the tv series underground season 2. I fell in love with that song 3 years ago. In the series underground she was so tired of being a slave and ashamed of being forced to be the master sex slave to make her kids comfortable in slave life, and just the hardships of slave life to where she walked into the ocean with a heavy log to weigh her down and tried to commit suicide. That's when they song was saying take me oya. Such a powerful scene to and also heartbreaking. 👍👍👍👍

Gives me Sevdaliza vibes, although I understand how people could associate Bjork with the vocals in the chorus. However, this is not Iranian or Icelandic, it's Yoruba. It's Afro-Cuban. It's their own culture and I love it. Unique and inspiring, makes me proud to be of Yoruba heritage.

My brother who once lived on Earth asked me what this meant to me. This song spoke volumes of life to me, of what exists on this Earth exists because of me, and also because of everyone else, due to God, or in this case, Oya. The truth of life being that it’s special for each individual and each person is so important that when one person doesn’t do their part, societies collapse. That, brother, is what it means to me. R.I.P. Joey

Matheus Pinto Hi MAtheus you are totally right... It's only a simple reflection about your lines.. it's great that you've identified with this "ancestral" musical performance in which Ibeyi twins have evoked their great musical talent within a very deep and sensual ritual to Oya (as part of our Afro-Cuban believes and cultural traditions)... However, I don't know how or why the neophyte people still insist to saying the same bullshit, trying to compare OBEYI with Bjork. Come on, men. I think people must inform about they want talking before open their mouths to express so nonsense criterias. In fact, it's become a common big mistake try to compare the Obeyi's fantastic and original (and why not, so fresh vibe too) vocal tessitura with Bjork (who also is an excellent singer too)... I particularly hate this kind of cliche that always reins inside and around the "Occidental Critic Mentalities" when they try to compare them with something that they usually (sight over their shoulders) calling "the Rest of them" (It means "the Rest of The World" / as their Stupid Occidentals consciences have classified to someone who are not part of the select "First World Class... it means: British, Americans, Australians, Europeans, etc) as their typical and "standard" obsession to present "something new into the music market"...Simply, pathetic!!! By the way, I just want to refresh and let you know something that it could be useful next time. I'll give you a tip: 38 years ago, when no one knew this kind o music, SINTESIS (a Cuban progressive-rock band) started with this experimental process inserting Afro Cuban Ancestral lyrics + different musical elements fusion-ed with jazz, symphonic rock and Cuban rhythms and classical Music... This is the real begging from this kind of music..... Sorry MAtheus, But, of course, it's nothing personal against to you. OK?... Hope you understand my point. By the way, I'm letting you know that my dear friend MIGUEL ANGEL "ANGA" DIAZ (R.I.P.) (OBEYI's father, is considered as one of the greatest all-time percussionists and congas players ever. Also, he was a very deep connoisseur of Afro Cuban Religious Rhythms!!)

.....Sorry I wanted to say "oya" is also a commanding word it literally means "let's go!" This is different to Oya the sacred deity mighty river that is worshipped by the people that you correctly refer to as Oba Oya because she has mystical power as are also powerfully fierce. Her mythologic symbol is a fierce looking strong and powerful female holding an axe arm stretched out above her head in a striking pose depicting a strong sense against injustice
It's about time we had a revival in genuinely spiritual music.
they talk about the gods and goddesses of the african diaspora, powerful and connected to rivers. Oshun, Oya, Elegua are in their song lyrics. Santeria, lkouma, conjure, voudun....

Santeria is the American term for what is Lukoumi, or Regla De Ocha....Don't forget Obatala, Yemeya, Oggun, Ibeji (twins) Shango, Obba.......I could go on. Always who's first and last is Ellegua, and NEVER put Oshun/Yemeya and Oya together like that (nor do you put Shango, and Oggun together (mine were sepatrated by a word at least, describing it to you)....You didn't know, and good observation!
Oya, dark mother goddess of storms and destruction, take me too.
i find most modern devotional songs for the orishas focus on yemaya and oshun, so it's nice to see and hear this song.

Heard this song for the first time in "Underground" it gave me chills and still makes me sob
Just heard this song for the first time tonight on a show called Underground. After hearing it I was determined to make it a part of my KZread playlist. I couldn't have heard it at a more perfect time than now. In a strange yet comfortable way, it has allowed me to start getting back in touch with my spirituality.
Even if I feel the sun on my skin everyday If I don't feel you Even if I see the most beautiful thing up in the sky If I don't see you Take me oya, take me oya Take me oya, take me oya Even if my hand's skin catch the wind, Catch the cloud, if I don't see you Even if I feel the sun on my skin everyday If I don't feel you Take me oya, take me oya Take me oya, take me oya Toi, le soleil, l'Uni, toi qui parles à mon coeur Toi, le soleil, l'Uni, mais qui pars sans moi Toi qui pars sans moi Take me oya, take me oya Take me oya, take me oya Oya Oya Oya Oya Oya

R.I.P. Joey
The visuals in this song, as haunting as the lyrics are sung. These girls, everyone of their songs is like a magic spell you can fall into and lose yourself in. I cannot put into words how impressed I am with what they have created.
This song always moves me to tears. Truly breathtaking.
I find their music to be so meaningful and beautiful. absolutely gorgeous
The accents in their voices excel this music into an atmosphere of both familiar and surreal strange beautiful originality!
Oya. My mother. She brings more than storms. She allows the ancestors a vehicle to continue to speak and be heard by the corporeal. Thank you Oya. ❤ I love Oya.

Also, he was a very deep connoisseur of Afro Cuban Religious Rhythms!!)
their father was a famous Cuban musician. Anga rest in peace

Ibeyi make feel proud to be Cuban. Not only have they built up on their father's legacy, but also they have aded their own flavour. Ibeyi are part of that rich, experimental and alternative musical tradition we have had in Cuba for many decades, from Sintesis to Mezcla. Aché pa' la' do'! :-)
