i'll just translate the gist. Basically he's talking about the discrimination he faced as a nigerian-korean mixed child in korea. So when he was young, one of his classmate's mom told her son (the classmate of hyunmin) to not play with hyunmin bc he's of a 'different colour'. His classmate even said awful stuff like how he can't be seen at night. But hyunmin's mom encourage him by saying stuff like 'he's a special/precious child' and things will be successful someday in the future(??). Even if it was tough, his mom gave him the most support. Not accurate but this should be correct :)

iSapphirex3 yep, accurate enough. I’m not fluent by any means but I knew the gist of it too. He’s such a sweetie , I love how down to earth and humble he is.

I'm a Nigerian and way darker than some of my Nigerian friends. People do ask why i am darker than alot of Nigerians. At first i feel bad but now i don't care anymore because this is how God made me,i did not choose to be dark/African. I love my skin colour .proudly 🇳🇬🇳🇬🇳🇬/🇮🇹🇮🇹🇮🇹.

If you know what I mean. Igbos say "yellow-man" for example. But they are not referring to Asians but to Nigerians / igbos who are lighter

한현민의 이야기를 들으니 본인이 초등학교 아니 그 땐 국민학교라고 했으니..국민학교 3학년 시절의 기억이 떠오른다.우리 아파트에 미국인 흑인 아버지와 한국인 어머니 사이에서 태어난 앤디라는 남자애가 이사를 왔는데...그 애는 항상 우리들이랑 어울려 놀고 싶어 우리의 환심을 사려 했던지 그 당시에 구경도 하기 힘든 미국 어린이용 미니카 등 우리가 가지고 놀던 것과는 뭔가 차원이 다른 신기한 것들을 가지고 나와 우리의 주위를 뱅글뱅글 머물렀던 기억이 난다.그 장난감이 탐이 난 아파트의 남자애들은 깜둥아 등등 비하하는 별명으로 부르며 다가가 그 장난감을 만지고 타 보기도 하고 ...그러던 어느 날 앤디의 엄마가 우리들이 깜둥이라고 부르는 것을 듣고는 우리한테 다가와서 이름이 앤디야 라고 우리 앤디랑 친하게 지내줄래?라고 하셨던 기억이 지금도 난다. 앤디 엄마가 앤디 생일이라고 동네 아파트 애들을 초대했고 어찌됐든 그것이 계기가 되었던지 앤디는 그 이후 우리들이랑 잘 어울려 놀고 했던 기억이 난다.그리고 우리 부모님을 포함,저 애랑 놀지마라고 하는 부모님들은 내가 알기론 주변에 없었던 것 같다.오히려 내 기억에 깜둥이라고 그러면 못 쓴다고 그러면 안 된다고 아빠한테 꾸중 들었던 기억이 난다...백인 혼혈에는 관대하고 흑인 혼혈에는 부정적인 시각과 색안경... 어쨌든 한현민은 어린 시절의 흑인 혼혈로서 겪어야 했던 상처를 딛고 성공했으니 유치원 시절 저 애랑 놀지마라고 했던 그 엄마에게 왕펀치 날린셈 👍

Racism of all color runs deep everywhere around the world. South African Whites have discriminated against blacks in the past and now, it's the other way around. Racism is still rampant here in the US, but we act like it's all good here. It's good to point out the evil of racism, but don't point fingers at other nations when all nations have the same problems. It's something that we should all strive to fix. Pointing fingers and generalizing an entire nation won't do any good.

Racism/colorism is a problem in Africa and the middleast too. People always prefers lighter skin

HALE IRWIN I'm very confused by your comment. So you are saying those that get emotional about the discrimination they've have faced somehow invalidates their experiences and emotions? Not everyone can be calm nor should they have to be when they are the victims. This type of discrimination makes you feel less than human. I'm glad hyunmin can talk about it in this calm manner but not everyone is at that place. Instead how about the assholes doing the discriminating fix their behaviors instead of waiting on the discriminated to teach them basic human compassionate and tolerance.

확실히 샘이나 한현민 같은 한국에는 아직 생소한 인종들을 자주 미디어에서 접하다보니까 13년도 처음 상경했을때 보다 훨씬 선입견이 많이 깨졌고, 이젠 옆에 흑인이 있어도 사실 별 관심도 없음. 물론 이게 옆에서 흑인들이 실제로 같이 살아가는것과 함께 일하는것에는 차이가 있겠지만, 미디어의 영항이나 한국이 그동안 상당히 글로벌화 된 측면이 큰듯 일부 지방을 제외하곤 수도권 중심으로 한국이 다문화를 받아들이는 속도가 상당히 빠른 속도라는건 단언할 수 있음. 물론 그 기간을 버티고 상처를 오롯이 받아들이고 있는 당사자들한테는 지옥이겠지만ㅠㅜ

I really love and appreciate this young man ‘s attitude. It’s easy to become resentful, but it’s much harder to let it go. He has let the painful past of lack of children friends. Not cause him to become bitter. But he has a platforms to show that their is beauty in being human . His mom is wonderful and his dad for never getting angry. Showing his that hate should rule his life . A calm , graceful example would lead to a good life.

현민이는 아프리카 토종 흑인이 아니지.. 외국인이라고도 할 수도 없고 순수하게 이 땅에서 태어나서 자랐고 한국인 피가 절반이 섞였는데.. 그래서 더 한국스러운거지. 현민이가 피부색만 아빠 닮은거고 엄마 얼굴을 좀 더 닮은 것 같아. 한국인이지. 100퍼 단일 민족이란건 없어. 고대시대때부터 한국에 아라비아 상인도 왕래했어서 한국인한테서도 아랍인의 모습도 볼 수도 있는거고 백제왕이 일본에 가서 나라 세웠다는데 그게 한국인이었고 100퍼는 없음. 폐쇄적에서 개방되어가는거지. 자원 하나 없고 수출로 먹고 사는 나라가 세계화 거부할 수 있겠냐.

저도 수 많은 사람들이랑 대화하면서 느끼는건데 인종차별은 대체로 못난 사람들이 하더라구요... 내세울거 없구 별볼일 없는데 자존심만 남아가지고 자기보다 친구 없어 보이거나 가난해 보이는 사람은 또 기가 막히게 찾아서 차별하고 괴롭힘...

근데 나도 저 감정 조금은 공감함.. 어릴때 유독 피부색이 진하고 생긴것도 한국인처럼 생기기보단 조금은 이국적으로 생겼어서 중학교때까지 놀림을 받았었음.. 초딩때도 동네에 언니들이 깜둥이라 그러고 니네나라로 돌아가라 그러고 교회에서도 애들이 나랑 놀기 싫다 그랬음 ㅠ 중학교땐 반에 친해지고 싶은 애가 있어서 말걸었더니 나보고 아프리카인이냐 그랬음.. 아직도 그때 그 상처가 남아있고 아직도 그 사람들이 너무 밉고 싫음.. 지금은 성인이 돼서 결혼해 아기가 생겼지만 내 아이에게만큼은 그런세상 물려주고싶지 않다..

혼혈이 극단적인 차별의 척도가 되었는데 저는 한국인이지만 태어날 때부터 시력이 굉장히 나쁜 탓에 소위 영자님 안경을 3세부터 썼는데 (그 전엔 거의 장님으로 살았던거..ㅎㅎ).. 그 담은 아시겠죠? 원치 않는관심과 질문..^^;; 지금 돌아보면 그 경험이 세상과 사람을 이해하는 큰 계기가 되었더라고요 ㅎㅎ

Well, her mom was right. He has been discriminated while growing up leaving in him deep scars but these scars made him successful today. Racism is everywhere. If you're white, you'll find some people discriminating against you, If you're black you'll find white and asians discriminating against you, If you're asian ( east ,southeast south, west) , you'll find white and black people discriminating against you. In southern Europe, Asians can be more discriminated than Black people. Inverted roles and every ethnic minority will be discriminated depending on where you are located.
