It’s FINALLY here!
I decided to make a video breaking down and comparing the Ibanez JEM and Ibanez JS series guitars.
In this video I compare the specs, sounds, and share some really useful information about each guitar.
If you’re thinking about purchasing one of these guitars or are curious about their quirks and sounds, this video should be really helpful!
This video is kind of a new format for me, so any critique and/or advice for future content is greatly appreciated! ^-^

I've got a Jem Jr and I can say they are amazing guitars, and only around $1000 AUD. Only issue I have with Jems is the floyd rose bridge due to not being able to frequently change tunings easily.

IN MY OPINION JS SOUNDS KIND OF BETTER ... FOR ME
i love these videos because they're so chill
Good to see a video from you! I was waiting
The RG was created with the same body style as the Jem, so that makes sense. IIRC, the Satriani model was based on the Radius (540R), which was what he used to play. Very contoured body, kind of like the Roadstar II's.
Wow the JS sounded better in every single way to me. Fuller, thicker but still cutting through.
Very good video, constructive and organized. Learned alot. Keep up the good work!

I'm getting a Jem for Christmas! Can't wait!
I love both! You put together a great and honest video! Definitely worth subscribing to this guy cuz I’m hittin that button rn
I think the opposite. For some reasons I think that the JS has the most versatile sound than the JEM. Every time I listen to a JEM my mind goes to Steve Vai. The JS has a lot of sounds because of all stuff like HPF or coil splitting ( in the other models) or the Sustainiac. All this features make you have heavy and strato sound (that is impossible to reproduce with the JEM).
Your eyes are really blue in this video 0-0.
Love the video as always
It amazes me the effort you put into these vids 👍👏
I checked twice if the playing speed was at normal. He speaks so fast my god
I almost wonder if when he said "It has a broken string so I can't really play it right now" was reference to one of his older videos when he was talking about his telecaster (I think it was) and he said almost the exact same thing...
@patty.rick6
4 жыл бұрын
The reference was his old jem and I wonder if he did it on purpose
I wasn’t planning on getting a guitar but I did like the sound of the JS and now maybe thinking of getting it so thank you for this showcase/comparison
I love the new musick channel
i was looking at getting the Ibanez GRG121DX-WNF. it just looks exactly how i like. super minimalist look and with the 24 frets i could maybe go into more advanced riffs and songs. as of now im not the best guitarist and tend to stick to chord sequences and simple riffs so i dont know if it would be worth the purchase. It would be my 3rd guitar however one of the main reasons for wanting it is that my current electric is old and starting to have many problems with the pickups and amp connection so it would be a nice replacement.
@theclaybia

as someone who owns one I would certainly recommend it, it plays beautiful even compared to a ibanez sz520. I would definitely recommend getting it setup and personally I like thicc strings so I would put 10-52 on it for drop D or D standard. but for sure go and test is and buy it.

Husker54 I tried this particular model at a store, it's really a great built guitar... And the finish is really dark walnut... Although, not sure, but the finish might chip off if not handled with a bit care.

Damn you should do more of these(it becomes expensive af) Quality video 🎸
Almost 16 minutes of words I dont understand yet I still enjoyed every minute.
Merk I haven’t touched my guitar in years and now I want to learn more. Thanks man :)
AWE !!! Kick in the Sustainiac !!! :( I've got a JS2480 on order with Sweetwater but it's on back order until about May 2018 :( Can't wait to get it. Nice video bro
Nice job sir, thanks for specs looking for a good guitar for my daughter!!
Damnnnn Erik looks nice in this video. Also, great playing. 😂
Erik; I'm getting an LTD Eclipse for Christmas and I'm super excited
I just bought my first guitar and you where me inspiration Erik. Wuv U
Holy shit Eric I just found this channel. Wtf. Watched your gaming channel for years. Prolly gonna get a jem jr soon.
It’s about time !!!
erik with the magic fingers. never gets old
Hey Eric. Would you ever consider making a video on different techniques, exercises, or scales to help with being able to play? I know you're a super advanced player, but something like that could help people who are inspired by you to get a guitar or even an experienced guitar player like myself. I started playing when I was 14 and loved it. After a while though I started to flat line with my progress. Now I'm just stuck with knowing a few bits and pieces of this or that song and never thought I would get anywhere with it, but every time I watch you or TheDooo play I get inspired again. Sorry for the story. You are awesome. Keep up the amazing work! :)
Merk good job you make me want to pick one up and train to play like you
Luv u m3rk
Frankly when you said at the start "the differences in pick ups won't be a big deal" that was kind of an eh move, pick ups make a world of difference and I consider them to be THE if not one of many key factors when deciding which guitar to buy. In future videos I recommend having more clarity when discussing the pickups at the start of the video and maybe doing some demos with other standard pickup guitars (eg compare generic stock single-coil pickups to Satch's custom single-coil style pickups). That's just what I thought, either way, great video, LOVING this new channel!! :D
Quality video fam
Moar Musick!! Also, if you use guitar slides can you freestyle with it? It'd be very fun.
Ibanez really haven’t really been my thing in the past, still haven’t found one I’ve enjoyed but, I absolutely love your enjoyment and enthusiasm of Ibanez, man! Much love.

Awesome video 🔥👍😎
neat vid, erik. i have a hagstrom single cut and a Fender Jazzmaster
Good content!
Those contours on the JS make it look so good 👌
Thank you finally for this video. These are my two dream guitars. I have been playing for almost 9 years, and I have been wanting this video for 2 to 3 years. Im so glad you did it. This video changed my view and both guitars, but helped me none. I want the jem for a collection and because of its beautiful look, but the JS looks comfortable and sounds better. I really cant make up my mind. Can you plz reply to help. I like playing metal, rock, punk, and jazz. I great honest opinion can help. Thank you again! Keep up the great work!

L1gh1ning 223 look man, i got the ibanez js2410 and thats just gr8. Many tonal options, u can sound different than satriani as well. But the feel, the sustain, is incredible, u get much more than wht u pay for. I have seen the jem to be much muffled sounding. For me the js has the best tone. U should try one, but if u like the wizard necks, u can try the jem or any good rg.

It's easy...what kind of music do you like...Satriani and softer (Hard rock/Blues) or Vai and harder (Heavy Hard Rock/Metal) I'm comin from the 70's and the Blues and Pop and i hate Metal...so for me it's JS all the way
Love that sustainiac on the JS. Thinking of installing one on my JS1000
i know nothing about guitars and knew nothing what u said but good video and nice playing
Hey love the vid pls make more haha But is it possible that you could make a little Tutorial on the rifs you play or put tabs in the description would be reaaaaallyy awesome if thats possible keep up the good work :D
The black and blue flower finish of the jem is my DREAM GUITAR
so touching for an excellent video
Ooo, Classy Merk👌
awesome video thank you im agonising between them ... also ... coil split is when the coils are split from dual to single ... coil tap is when they break into the windings (tap into) usually halfway to a third through the winding to give a reduced output option generally to affect the tone and heat of the output ... i wouldnt have mentioned it but i see it even on high end gibson guitars they are referring to the coil splitting ability as a coil tap on the stick on overlay showcasing the abilities of the guitar which is either insulting or stupid and i can do without either when spending vast amounts of money on a guitar once again thank you for this very informative video it has actually illuminated several points i had not thought of , keep up the good work , liked subbed ..make a t shirt ill buy it
As much as I love music, I’m not much of a guitarist more woodwind but it’s very interesting! Keep up the vid btw listening to play though with Bose Headphones are fantastic!
your speaking and editing at the perfect speed :]
On the tree of life inlays the marked frets are mother of pearl, and the unmarked frets are Abalone, so they do stand out, obviously not as quick to see as the dots on the JS2480 (which I just picked up) I also have Pogo, (one of Steve's old ones that I am in possession of [not owner }) good video. btw, Pogo has the ebony fretboard, which I do like.
i love your shirt, it looks like a design that satriani would make
Excellent vid, I'm a JS fan :), But great zombie jesus you speak fast lol, i though i'd hit the vid speed by mistake :)
Merk can you plz try to upload more. I really love this video and love ur guitar video. BOOBENGA!!!
I love your guitar videos, its cool how i can watch my favorite KZread gamer and also learn some shit for my band.
I’m actually getting a JS24PCA. I’m excited
FUCKING INSANE INTRO. THAT WAS SICK, HOLY SHIT. I wish I could play as well as you, man
We need more Musick videos Also, I've been thinking about grabbing myself either a Jem Jr. or an RG-something-something (closely priced to the Jem Jr). My question: How are the "Standard" bridges (I assume they're some Edge variants) on the guitars from the $400-600 range? How well do they stay in tune? Are the springs super stiff? I'm familiar with Floyd Roses and I'm curious to branch out some and try the Edges
Erick inspired me to play guitar I'm just starting out but i'm sure I will get better.
excellent video.
