I think that you should adjust your grip. especially if you are playing shred type of music. your thumb should be opposite to your middle finger or in between 2 and 3 finger. try it. helped me alot.

I bought the 555 on Ebay about 10 years ago, it is one of the best guitars I own!! The neck is beautiful for shredding, the EVOs are outstanding!! I've bought Jacksons since then with their compound radius necks and love love, love them but I still occasionally take out my Jem jr and still love how easily it plays. The tremolo needs to be setup properly and when it is, stays in tune. Everyone has their own preference of guitar and this obviously isn't for you!!

Totally agree. I am going to try as many varieties of guitar as I can and hopefully one day I'll 'fall in love with the one'

Yeah i have a jem 555 as well abd i love it man! Its not like the shittier ones they make now in indonesia! Nothing wrong with my EVO Dimarizios i make em scream !

The pickups in that model ARE Dimarzio Evolutions. And they are a hot pickup. They push a good tube amp pretty well.... not sure what kinda chibanez you have, but real 555's have original Evo pups.

I think you're right about them being the Evo's but still not as hot as seymore duncan invaders...

Original EDGE tremolo, is the best product from Ibanez. First thing, that I check on budget Ibanez guitars, is what trem system does it use. LoPro is not that bad. Edge Pro II for example is a complete disaster, especially because it doesn't have locking studs any more. I've seen several RG models with it and all had tuning stability problems. It is a big downgrade compared to original EDGE, which is back into business and costs like 400$ :D Unfortunately with Ibanez, you either pay a lot and get absolutely great product, or mostly have to live with bad trem and eventually block it completely.

It's funny how we change over time. I did purchase another of these cheapies and love it. My current favorite guitar is a fender strat with a Kirk Hammet pick guard which had esp active electronics.

My JEM555 just doesn't stay in tune. I've had guitar repair guys open it up and do whatever it is they do to the springs - and it has improved - but it's very annoying. Thinking of upgrading to the 7.

Peter Daley That's probably due to that Trem. I have considered changing mine out to one of the ball bearing locking ones on the new Ibanez Premium guitars.

That's due to the crappy Edge 3 trem - I've upgraded mine to an Original Floyd Rose and it didn't go out of tune for the two months it's been on. Really great improvement to an otherwise decent guitar.

I know what you mean. I've bought and played signature gear from my favorites before and found I didn't like them. The Jackson Phil Collen PC1 was my dream guitar till I felt the neck. I also know what you mean about Duncans ove DiMarzios. I mostly play 80's rock and metal too, and recommend you check out a Charvel Pro Mod guitar. Amazing guitars... sounds like it's your type of guitar.

+Guitar Whores I'll definitely look into it... A long time ago, I wanted to check those out anyways because of Jason Becker. In another topic, I did buy another one of these Jem555's lol, but only because it has Steve Vai's signature on the back of the headstock ;) I am liking it a little bit more and more with tweaks.

It's not, but the difficulty is from how insanely thin the neck is compared to 'normal' necks. Just hard to adjust to.

Crappy review. OK, you say it doesn't suit your style (shredding ?). This is a shredder's dream (when he / she is on a budget, can't afford $2K - $3K for a full-fat version Jem 7V), so not sure why you can't get it to work for you. Got one and it's the best guitar I've ever owned.

Everything is subjective. These reviews are from the perspective of the person filming them and not inclusive of everyone else. I honestly have come to like it much more with lots more time, but it really took a long time to warm up to it ( I found one that was signed by Steve Vai and couldn't pass it up some months ago ) Currently playing that in my gigs and it isn't terrible :) Still prefer the Schecter.

+vaiisking don't agree. Reviewers should at least attempt to remain objective. You made it totally subjective and all about you and your playing style, which in my mind negates any value that I would attach to it. Actually says more about you than about the guitar.

I'm a huge Vai fan from Zappa. I didn't like the 555 either and got rid of it. (Maybe that's the guitar?) The trem system felt like crap to me and I didn't like the pickups, etc. I just felt the guitar was a lemon and I doubted that Steve had anything to do with the 555. (That's just my opinion) I admit that I'm not into locking guitars. I think they sound like sh*t. But I came up on a Washburn N2 (cheaper version of an N4) a long time ago that ruled! I wish I would have hung on to it for my one Floyd guitar But because of the Extreme association (get the funk out) I hawked it. Oh well. Live and burn.....

this is a bit of a cosmetic guitar. the price goes to the pickups and the looks, i feel the same about the premium jems. but the japanese ones are very nice. what did you end up getting?

Lars høk lol ironically, I ended up buying another identical one that has steves signature behind the headstock and actually love how it plays now. My main these days is a fender with with Kirk Hammet pickguard that has active electronics. Squeals like a pig!
