Fun Fact.. That Artstar semi bodystyle is one of PRS's inspirations in his early days. The tri tone is what he was after with his rotary switch, and it took a long time but Paul's guitar with "dual" tone almost completely copies the layout.
The semi hollow AR520 played by the Captain is one gorgeous guitar, dude. Beautiful flamed maple top and stunning binding and inlays. Masterpiece.
ive always loved the AR series and never quite understood why almost no one talks about this guitar. Its as versatile as it gets (specially the 420 with the 2 volumes 2 tone configuration) the build quality is through the roof and it wont break pretty much anybodys bank. Yet almost no one seems to care much about it. Ive tryed one and feel in love with it immediately. It feels great, plays like a dream and the sound of those Super 58 pickups are unbelievable regardless of the position of the great.working Tri-Sound Switch....i adore this guitar

I’ve been waiting for 4 months for this to be built. It’s supposed to be delivered tomorrow and I’m freaking stoked to get it. I’ve got a Epiphone Les Paul standard, a Squier Strat and a Epiphone SG. And they all rip it up. But the Ibanez is a semi- hollow is going to have a new tonal structure for me to explore. Rock on. 👍👍👁❤️🎸☘️☘️😊
Come back to this vid over and over again just to hear Pete and The Captain with the sweet jazz tunes.
Oh my god I'm having a "Garth" moment - that Ibanez AR520 looks beautiful.

Super great entry level guitars. My first electric was an Ibanez cheapo. I still remember her fondly.
If Pete ever decides on a career change he should try comedy. The punchline when he was parodying Lee's humbucker/split/parallel pickup config explanation was hilarious.
Wonderful ..... I truly enjoyed the demo and comedy-enhanced conversation about the Ibanez guitars...... very good playing by both of you. It was fun and intuitive ...... Keep having fun and cheers Lads!!!!!!!
I really wanted Pete to throw some overdrive into the chain for that hollow body. Big, chunky, howling guitar in Pete's hands sounds like a winner to me.

How does it sound with a bit of gain? I’ve got plenty of that.
Loved that intro jam & loop
I like that they are putting the tri-tone switches back on these guitars.

Thanks guys - your video convinced me to go ahead and order one of the AR 520’s in black. I think those pickups sound great especially with the Trisound options!
I've always been a fan of ibanez, great sound, great quality, great price
just got my AG75, had ton of fun with it, doesn't feel like a cheap guitar since its a hollow body, and rich tone which i personally like. Nice video!
Opening jam was fantabulous. Love you guys.
Bought it after seeing this review! Very versatile guitar!
I understood the finger in the hole explanation of Pete instantly rather than the single coil/parallel tapping thingy 9:43
These are so nice, I personnally always love the Ibanez AR520, look and feel, it's a Epiphone LP killer (and maybe a gibs) for it's price + double cut easy access.
Love this models of Ibanez, great sounds!
Ibanez Japan would have to be one of the best guitar manufacturers in the marketplace leading with innovative designs in both modern and vintage series guitars. Wonderful!

Yes I just watched the video for the first time this morning and it prompted me to buy one this afternoon
I liked the physical display on how the coils work in series/parallel. BTW Pete... I saw that!
I'm definitely interested in two of these beautiful awesome ibanez guitars.
Tasty playing. I think the 520 brings up the classic Ibanez Artist look but at a less heavy weight. I’ll be checking that out for sure.
Ibanez make some of the very best guitars anywhere and most times you need not go broke to acquire a lovely axe that will more than meet your musical needs. My brother just bought the Artstar 520 and it is a beauty in all ways ,what value for money!
Wow! That's some pretty great value for money right there. Those Super 58 pickups sound sweeeeet.

Great review! Thank you! I realy liked the sound of Ibanez AMH-90
Nice (and subtle) Life of Brian reference. Well played.
omg my dad used to have a solid v of the double cut with all those vintage style pieces, emotional
Danish Pete could play a tennis racquet and make it sound good! Love the AF-95.
I’ve always known Ibanez as the brand all the edgy nu-metal guys love. Never knew they could do hollow body and arch top guitars.
Captain u have come along way. In yer guitar playing man that's so so stylish
In my experience flat wounds are great if you add a high-pass filter (bass control knob) to your guitar. One treble, one bass, and you can find a great balance where they will still shimmer.
These are NICE !!!...great value right here !!
Very Cool. Stunning Guitars. I have recently become a big fan of Ibanez picking up an Electric and an Acoustic, an Ibanez Hollowbody is in my Future. Thankyou
I have the AS93, and love the hell out of it. So does everyone else that picks it up. Seriously nice guitar.

Same here (as93zw), beautiful guitar, lovely to play, add some overdrive and you have a full on rocker.
That intro sounds like the Theme Song to Pete's Only fans lol!!! Very nice playing and guitars!!
Linden is the common lime tree in Europe - called basswood in the USA. Luthier the late Sid Poole reckoned basswood/maple was a match made in heaven for his guitars
I have an AS73 semi hollow and love it.
I’ve been looking at the es339 but that ar520 really looks and sounds great
those bindings on the semi-hollow.... i just love bindings :)
Ibanez and Yamaha the big Japanese guitar companies from the 70s are putting out the best bang for the buck.
I can dig this. '07 AS 73 in TSB bought new. Great guitar.
love these
I love the sound especially the small one... nice !!! Most of us play standing up so I wonder how is the balance once you put a strap on them. Other than that I love your channel you guys are awesome..
love my Artcore, Andertons purchase...... bit battered now, great guitar!
lovely sounding geeeeeetars
While a fey alt rock player myself, I feel like there is hope for humanity when a day can be set aside on social media just for jazz guitars. Nice. P.S. I've wanted one of the AR420s for frickin' aaaaages.
That black one is lovely.
Good info video, BTW, the AR250 is neither an Artstar or an Artcore series. Artstar & Artcore refer to the hollow and semi-hollow body lines. While the AR250H is a semi-hollow body it's still part of the AR line. { FYI, the main differences between Artstar & Artcore, besides price, is that Artcores are made in China & Artstars are made in Korea and considered to be of higher quality. }
Flatwoods for guitar!!! Thanks, never crossed my mind!
Ibanez guitars are great bang for the buck, and I wish these were around when I was just starting out, and options were limited. They should have highlighted some of the nice touches they put into these guitars, like the all Abalone, the rubberized tone and volume knobs, and the easy access to the truss rods with that little door you can open and close.
I really like the 520 semi. It's an affordable version of my 78 Artist series that I could take to a gig and not worry about. That is if we ever have gigs again.

Yes I used to own one of those so I totally know the guitar you’re talking about and they were way cool. The 520 reminded me of that one also so I ended up buying one this week because I love to try sound pickups and I remember they had something similar in that old Ibanez Artist you referenced!

@@dustinglass If I recall, mine was around $750 (USD). I think it's great bang for the buck. $750 isn't in the low price range for me. It looks like they're around $650 now, based on quick Google search.
I really like the look and sound of these. Prices are very good, too, for what you get. I can't wait to play them in person.
You can tell it's been a long day of filming when Pete doesn't even crack a smile at the Captain saying 'semi' over and over.
Love the AMH90.

Pahahahahaha, Pete never disappoints!
I want want want that Ar520!!! I will buy yours! 😁
Series reduces highs but boots the level overall whereas parallel maintains more highs but results in a drop in overall output; both are hum-cancelling; and also relatively phase-cancelling (to a variable degree, based on distance), if I'm not mistaken.
I bought the ARTIST (not Artstar as the Captain stated) 520 In Flame Maple flavor… and I LOVE IT! I’ve owned many vintage Ibanez axes over the yrs, including a Prestige AR305 that was truly amazing, so this take comes from experience! These newer Chinese built variants are very nice! They’re not as well built as the OG Japanese built models of the late 70s-early 80s… especially compared to my Prestige which is one of the finest instruments I’ve EVER Laid my hands on…but still very nice, especially considering that they are Chinese built! Ibanez clearly instructed the builders to do a great job, bc attention to detail on mine is virtually flawless! for anti wondering… they’re really nice! The neck is much slimmer than the orig AR neck… but I dig it…it’s not too thin…just thin enough to make it easy to play! To wrap it up I’ll just say this: She plays wonderfully, is a looker, and for me at least… a Keeper!
I’ve had my ar-420 since about 2015 and it rocks. I remember a few years back lee called it mega 70’s prog rock on a video where they were cruising through the site
Wow, that (copy, paste) AR520HFM-VLS is gorgeous! And £599... hmmmmm... Love the bridge
Linden is actually another name for Basswood
My old Ibanez AM93 stands up big time. Ceramic pickups actually sound awesome, too.
In the middle - the TriSound switch is true single coil. It buzzes.
Andertons editor needs to get a raise bro
I thought the Fender Jaguar is something for me but you've got me thinking about the AR520...
Awesome good
What's was the backing track at the end of this video. Very cool, I would like to get a copy if possible!
Nato - aka Sen (Japanese Ash). Very nice.

After several weeks of searching, I finally settled on Ibanez AR520; I got it today, and it’s absolutely stunning, visually and acoustically. Buying it online is always a risk, but this guitar is pretty much everything I wanted.

I feel like these are made in the same factories as the Gretsch Streamliner/Electromatic models. Very similar build construction and value.
Ouuuuu I’ve been waiting for this😁
So many Ibanez guitars are tasty and desirable
Hey guys just wanted to let you know the AR 420,550,600,700 are the reissues of the famed guitars of the 70s known as the les Paul killers. MIJ they were better made than the Gibsons of the 70s. Ibanez issued 3 original designs then the AR with the tritone switching, the musician, and the studio. They were the first to do neck thru, multi piece necks, hotter pups. BTW Lee Okoume wood has been harvested for decades for use in the production of plywood. It has never been used in the production of musical instruments. Please bring in their lp style the ART 500,600,700fm..The higher the number the more ornate such as vine inlays on the neck

Would love for Ibanez to make me a lefty AF95. Gonna have to settle for the AF55 :/
Lovely stringed pieces of wood those are! Isn't Linden wood called basswood in English? Or don't the people of Ibanez want us to know that they use basswood for their bodies? Nothing wrong with the wood, soundwise or looks wise, just that it keeps the cost down and dings a bit easier
