Great book about and interesting time. Well worth buying if you want to know what the 60's were about.

Great book and insight into a band that hasn't been written about much. I've always been curious about McGuinn as a long time Byrds and Folk Den fan. In reading the book, I think Roger was depressed as the Byrds couldn't another huge hit and he saw how big Crosby Stills and Nash's first album was, and probably missing out on having the band play at Woodstock. The biggest setback in their career though was losing Gene Clark and the possibility of a couple more hits in 1966 and 1967 to keep them up there with the Lovin Spoonful, Turtles and Monkees at the time.

Initially he didn't want to (jump to 53:46 in this video interview with Roger: kzread.info/dash/bejne/no6rspebZ9qvk7w.html). But maybe now that his ex-wife has, he will.

Prima Buch , wirklich gut geschrieben. Es beschreibt die Zeit und das Leben der Byrds, die damals, sehr jung ( Anfang 20) ihre Karriere und ihre soziales Umfeld kreierten.

I just finished reading the book that I recently bought. So many interesting stories as I was in L.A. when I was very young and knew about the Ash Grove but too young to go there as a young teen of about 13 or 14. I lived in the area about 5 or 6 miles east of there.I know that Ianthe mentions various deaths of artists they knew, Gram Parsons, Clarence White and others but unless I missed it, I don't recall Ianthe mentioning the deaths of two of the original Byrds, Michael Clarke and Gene Clark so was kind of surprised about that.(Unless I somehow missed that page or something if it was mentioned.)

folkmusicgirl, She divorced McGuinn in 1971. Michael Clarke and Gene Clark died in the 90's and the byrds were long done as a band at the time of their deaths.

The book relates Ianthe's perspective on events. Roger is portrayed as someone to whom things happened. I suspect that is not accurate given he subsequently proves to be critical to the Byrds remaining a creative music force for nearly a dozen LPs. Ianthe honestly relates her early promiscuity. Perhaps we are supposed to believe such a _free spirit_ was the norm for the times. OK, then we must also accept the rock and roll lifestyle has never been known for celibacy. Was Roger a terrible father? It certainly seems he was more preoccupied with his career than his children. Newsflash: he is hardly the only man (or woman) with that shortcoming. Once again, it can be argued the music business is filled with parents who were less than ideal. We are expected to accept Ianthe was naive and had no idea what she was getting into. Such a story is hard to believe after her first encounter so perfectly foreshadows her future.

I'm sure she outlines the whole chain of events that lead up to it in detail in her book. But I would venture forth to say that McGuinn's priority as a Byrd going on tour and recording studio albums over being a family man, like many celebrities in his position, ultimately made Ianthe choose to move on. Plus, as evidenced by the frequent lineup changes in the Byrds throughout the band's nine-year career from 1964-1973, McGuinn is not exactly known for being able to keep things and people together successfully long-term.

Is it really necessary, to have her be interviewed by a nauseatingly over animated, fake smile fake laugh fake interest person?
