Where to start..?! Well first off, I don't like how Ian & Sylvia have faded into history a bit because they were terrific, didn't remember his voice being so good. Then when Judy came in it was goose bumps, what a clarion, gorgeous voice! Instantly recognizable. Her sister Holly Collins went to a boarding high school with me and Judy sang at one graduation, wow

Nostalgic and evocative, performers so much more refined in taste and feeling than of these past decades ( spoken as a 58 year old). Has there ever been a male/female singing duo like Ian and Sylvia, what a lovely blending of voices.

First heard this song in '64 or '65. The Kingston Trio did it with the great, now deceased John Stewart on lead. It was wonderful, Then heard it by Judy Collins and she took it to another level. Then by Ian and Silvia and really discovered Ian's beautiful voice. Then by Suzy Bogus and she did a swell version of this. Fact is, it is a classic and many people have done it and well. It seems to be the kind of song that elevated the artist doing it. Beautiful story in the words.

Ian Tyson is the greatest! His beautiful voice and great song writer are incomparable. It's such a tragedy that he lost his voice. I have all of his CDs and play them whenever I travel, especially when I travel into western Canada.

The Kingston Trio recorded this song very soon after it was written in 1965. The great John Stewart sang lead on it. It was the version that set the standard for this song. Most people who sing this song seem to do it better than the other songs they do. It is a cowboy classic that lifts the artist doing it. I have heard Suzy Boggus, Judy Collins (Stills & Nash), Crystal Gayle(Tyson), Patty Lovelace and all are good versions. This is a relatively modern cowboy song that still encompasses the cowboy spirit and the strength of young romance and old experience. Just darn good writing and just great singers who recognize a fun, classic song. Thanks to Ian for breaking his leg(literally) and opting for a career change.

I'm glad that singers continue to accept the risk of comparison, to sing this song in ways that keep it in our minds & on our radios. They might get tagged as Western, Folk, Country, or anything else -- but no matter, it's good that new branches grow from these excellent roots.

For most of my life I would have somewhat resisted even feeling that 'American Country' music touched a heartstring in me, let alone ever saying that it did. But you know... That after so many decades of being so very 'country' myself yet without ever making any kind of 'song and dance' about it, I just have to say that there is something in the blood that really does connect you to this music. I now understand that it's truly in the soul of those who are truly country, where once I didn't see it that way. I certainly do now and I guess if the truth be known, I probably always did believe it deep down. Great music. Its about people and their lives and for me that beats a hell of a lot of the jibber out there.

+rachelpeine77 Ok I didn't know that but regardless, the music and people all feel very much the same things or have in common what I was trying to say in my previous post. Its all too easy to put on a big hat and to pick up a guitar which many do but when a person is 'true country' then that's just what they are. Hope that sort of made sense?

She’s not Canadian, born and raised in Colorado, Judy was a musical prodigy, she took piano lessons from a Maestro & her piano teacher told her parents that she was the most exceptional student they ever had, that she would be a Concert Pianist when Judy was still a little girl in Denver, but Judy heard folk music and strapped on a guitar and learned to play fast, and she has that crystalline voice and several octave range, with one of the best soprano voices ever known.

On this day in 1970 {March 15th} Judy Collins performed "Someday Soon" on the CBS-TV program 'The Glen Campbell Goodtime Hour'... Thirteen months earlier on February 1st, 1969 it entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart; eventually it peaked at #55 and spent 6 weeks on the Top 100... It reached #37 on the Canadian RPM Tracks chart... Two covered versions have charted; Moe Bandy {#21 in 1982 on the Billboard Country chart} and Suzy Bogguss {#12 in 1991, also on the Billboard Country chart}...
