Ian Kirkpatrick on Producing and Writing with Cubase | Steinberg Spotlights
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
Cubase 10 is an essential part of the creative process for music producer and songwriter Ian Kirkpatrick, In this Steinberg Spotlights video, the Los Angeles producer discusses producing and writing with Cubase, how his work with artists including Selena Gomez, David Guetta, Justin Bieber, Britney Spears and many more relies on it. He talks about the vital role that the functionality of the DAW has played in songs like "Want To Want Me" by Jason Derulo, "New Rules" by Dua Lipa and how important it is that music production software allows you to work as fast as your ideas. Producing in Cubase is obviously a pleasure for Ian, as he says: “It’s so fun and exciting, it feels like infinite possibilities.”

Can you imagine what it feels like to have a pop tune with nearly 2 bil youtube views under your belt? All in the box too. Respect. Glad he uses Cubase.

Right? I think that's one of the best pop instrumental of the decade. The percussions and how the bass delays a little bit to fit into the drop it's just genius.
I've been working 15 years now with Cubase. It's great to hear professionals like Ian working on that too.
Really nice to hear directly from a successful professional with so many years working in Cubase! As a hobbyist, I struggle to gain profiency with the platform and this interview was very encouraging and informative! Thank you!

I love this dude, his streams are always so entertaining.
I feel the same way about this like my mind works on three different songs at once I’m focusing on one song and then I’m also thinking about another and this is been really helpful for me because he’s really knowledgeable about what he’s talking about
So many hits come from Cubase, even back in the day on the Atari ST people like Stock Aitken & Waterman were using it as it came to market. It really blows everything else out of the water.
Glad I just got Cubase 11, this is so inspiring!
New Rules is impressively produced! 💯
Cubase is *LEGENDARY* ! nice video
Cubase is Amazing tools for Artists, thank you
I use a lot of DAWs. Everything he described I'm like yeah Ableton does that too and I don't even use Ableton as my primary lol.

ableton is very laggy on big sessions, missing for example strip silence when you work with real audio, I was also ableton die hard but then I grow to see cubase
He is a nice and creative guy. I can relate to the problem with too much gear keeping the focus away from writing music because i can spend hours on a synthesizer with sound engineering.
I switched from Avid to Qbase and never looked back.
Love this guy Work ethos
What is the song called starting from 1:41? Could you please link it to me, its really tough!
That slip function really makes me wanna try it as well as those flying windows and media bay, and of course the workflow is quite a crystal. My main daw is Ableton but I also use Pro Tools, Reason and FL Studio.

Now yes, Ctrl+Shift, that's really helpful, but I don't know what version it started working smoothly. Now I am fully into Cubase not mastering it like Ableton because I studied Ableton in a very hardcore way, even though I didn't recap well the recent new updates changes. but now I can work with both and more DAWs for different tasks, but for production, Cubase gives me much more.
Feel the same way about media bay. And there's terabytes of audio to go through on my audio drives. I've found tracks I never even remember recording, looking for guitar stabs and in no time it's in the project for that instant hook after a little splicing😎👍

what is Media Bay?... a part of cubase to storage loops?..or something outside Cubase?
@lukewilliams7020
4 жыл бұрын
Media bay is great like that but everyone fails to mention how it only works well like that AFTER you’ve spent a long time organising and categorising all of your samples first before importing them to media bay. Like a guitar stab isn’t going to magically appear u less you categorised it beforehand. And that all takes a looong time unless you’ve been methodical I’m advance.
Ableton user, wondering if media bay just converted me... You'll really have to 1 up. Thanks Ian Kirkpatrick, cool interview. New rules is crazy.

Please make Mediabay work with aiff files as Logic does (pitch and tempo stretching).
My setup is very much like his. I have that same midi keyboard :)
Got Logic cause Finneas uses it, it is fun Now wanting to try Cubase
Pls, what song is in the background starting from 1:41 ???
producer's work should be valubed as much as perfomers, dua lipa is now a hit, but she can't go viral without Ian Kirkpatrick
Over 20 years ago I started with I think it was almost the first version of Cubase and Pro Tools and Pro Tools was a mess was a pain in the ass to work with Q based was just like he said it was fast it worked Pro Tools routing and all the BS that you had to do Cubase is a dream I would never use another d a w I started with just about the first version and now using Cubase 10 it just gets better and better great video Steinberg it would be great if you could help those idiots over at waves audio fix the Studio Rack plugin it has been crashing Cubase 10 on Mac for over 10 months and they're starting to have an attitude when you call them and ask them when are you going to fix it thanks
Genius. Dont need too much.
What monitor does he use?
”in here (head) chaos sometimes ....." Hahaha

Because in order to use UA plugins, they force you to use their interface.
Ian Kirkpatrick, Junkie XL/Tom Holkenberg, and Robert Smith all use Cubase. So yes.

Loop producer mmm....? So DJ then....!
I love Cubase, I use Cubase, I have massive respect for Ian, but he just lost me at "I feel sorry for the producers that don't have something like MediaBay". It sounds so mean and disrespectful. As if everyone else are plebs and he feels so bad for them for not using cubase.
