Iai/Battojutsu with huge 1,7m ODachi Katana NoDachi , Cristian Laiber

Спорт

I practiced this just for body training not as historical re-enactment of the use of Nodachi. (Which was carried usually on the back)
With training and determination, All is possible! Just keep in practice!

Ive seen a technique of unsheathing a nodachi that uses a very strange style. It was developed to avoid the large crests of a kabuto that many samurai had. You take the saya in the left hand and put it behind your neck. It is used to manipulate the entire wingspand and avoid having your hands on the blade because that is very scary 😅

True. What I did is just for training and body use purpose, not as historical re-enactment. The blade should be scary for the opponent. For the owner must be one of his best friends! :)

@@raidendojo This is a historical reenactment. That's how street performers demonstrated drawing and sheathing the nodachi during the Meiji period. The body is rotated during the procedure so the audience can't see you handle the blade with your hands.

I wonder why the need for longer, heavier sword almost simultaneously arose in Japan and the West in the late middle ages.
