Well, considering the songs had to be written by a real person who obviously had something to say, found this as a medium in which to express the ideas they had. Similar to an author using a pen name or an animator doing the same. Sometimes people don't want to take credit for the work they do in these fields especially considering how personal the feelings expressed in songs like this are. Therefore they utilize a medium that allows them to retain their anonymity. Vocaloid is a fantastic representation of this idea in my opinion. Let me know what you think on the subject if you see this. I do realize I'm posting this two years after your original comment. Edit: changed some of the wording

To me, the song is about how others blindly look down upon her when they know nothing about her at all. They tell her that she is what they tell her to be. But she rebels. Everyone is writing the laws and judging the masses, but she refuses to accept their selfish logic. She holds contempt for the institutions (Science? Religion? Law? Society?) that attempt to pin her down and force her to conform. They are self righteous and gratifying, too blinded by their own beliefs to see the torture that they inflict upon her. She has a dream that she is questioning because the whole of society is bearing down on her, and she is trying to figure out if she is justified or not.

It's sad that society and the human mind can drag individuals down a dark road. In the end, she was a type of person who simply thought about the world differently. Refusing to conform, not a bad thought, but it led her to a disappointed lifestyle. At least she could dream of a better world... A better option is to work towards a life that she sees fine in her eyes. The world and it's people may not be perfect. Isn't it fine to have dreams and work towards a better life?

+Julia Martinez For me, it's not that people are pressuring me to be "normal". It's more of the feeling of not fitting in. Combine that with a judgemental society and it leaves my mind a little disturbed. We should just live life how we want, but keep in mind of what our actions can do to others. I'm not interested in making another person's life even harder when most of us already have enough problems to deal with. So in the end, be the best person you can be or at least try to be nice.

今のボカロ聞いてても昔を越すことは自分の中では不可能なんだなぁってこの曲で毎回思わされる。すき。

Years ago I would listen to this song and just cry because I related to it so much. I felt understood and that I wasn’t alone in my feelings. Now I’ve gotten out, gotten help, and made a great life for myself. I’m genuinely happy with myself and life now. It’s really nostalgic listening to this. It makes me proud knowing how far I’ve come and that song helped me in some way to overcome it.

It's because the writers are nerdy composers who have nothing other than musical understanding and a message.

It may relate to expectation. "Isn't it ok, though, if it's just in my dreams" expresses a disconnect between how she wishes to be perceived, and how she is perceived. Ia finds herself unable to resolve the paradox in that she seeks acceptance from the very source of her anguish (society). Ultimately she takes solace in memories that do not reflect reality. The ideologist knows this of course, yet she allows herself to be satisfied with illusions. Because by doing so she gives them meaning.

Great interpretation, I agree with you.

When she says that everyone tells her that she is an idiot and enemy of all of them I can relate to that. I say this because back in my school days pretty much everyone thought that I was an insignificant useless idiot and sometimes it seemed like they also thought of me as their enemy, I still can't believe that I was able to pull through my school life, it was horrible.

Bakamatsuu I've been learning for only about a month now, and the main thing i've been using is an app called Human Japanese, it's really great with loads of chapters & it's for beginners ^__^ as well as that, I just google things like verbs and vocab etc...and learn different words and every day :) I learned to read and write hiragana pretty much perfectly from the HJ app and i'm working on katakana right now~ good luck if you decide to learn too - it's a really nice language :)

This was my first Vocaloid song. It's incredible how much thought there is behind the lyrics, and the video and especially the song are amazing. Still listen to it from time to time, always makes me nostalgic. I can so much relate to the last 3 lines of this song, it's almost scary. It's like the words came right out of my soul. The first of these lines actually makes me think, why should I be nostalgic? "The past was good" a beautified lie. Such a deep but such a true statement.

+Ashtag_XD Um. What. Ignorance breeds suffering... Let me repeat what I said in a different comment: If truth makes you not want to live, then it isn't truth. Truth strengthens you, gives you a purpose, makes you realize there's a lot more to life than other people's opinions. If you knew the truth, you wouldn't want to end it so soon, because in fact, there is so much to life that you would actually be begging for more time.

+AnimatiNuti my opinion of truth. is that existence is futile, there is no point, and we have a very, very short time in this world. so all you can do is fill the obvious void with "happiness" and try to enjoy it before its too late.

+Worthless Garbage So you're saying atoms poofed from nowhere, cells poofed from that, planets poofed from that, the universe poofed from that, and humans poofed from the cells which are from atoms which are from nowhere, for absolutely no reason? That has got to be the most absurd thing I've ever heard. Something, _someone_ had to start it all, for _some_ reason. Science itself proves that energy never goes away, it only changes forms. Do you believe you just poof after you die? Life itself can indeed look futile, just as a blank piece of paper is meaningless. It's the same thing. Looking, looking on something that does not have anything going for it, something that's meaningless. But that's where you come in, you live that life. You do something in it. You draw on that piece of paper. That's where meaning comes in.

This song reminds me of my struggles with maturity and gifted kid syndrome. I've spent a lot of my life trying to fit in with a world that I feel like I don't belong in, where I'm constantly told I'm wrong for not fitting in with my "friends" who don't get me. I always feel like my existence in this world is of no consequence - even I weren't to exist, the world would continue turning, would roll on as if I never mattered.
