seeing a young writer pursue her dreams so fervently was very inspiring. this was the first video of yours I watched and idk how often or if you read your comments but I hope you know that seeing you living the dream is inspiring.

Am twelve years old and I have been writing stories ever since I was 10. I stopped writing when I turned 12 but watching your videos motivates me. Now I am back to writing

I do that too!! (Making the characters my age). I think it’s needed as you get older because so many authors write their characters as 16-19 and 20+ feels so rare. Normalise having older MCs!!

personally i’ve always had my main character be a couple years older than me. like when i was 12 theyd be 13/14 at 14 theyd be 16/17 and im now 16 and my main character is 19

Making the main character your age is something I do too and you just made me realize it 😭 Honestly it helps me write the character better and sometimes I make them the same age on purpose just bc of that and I change it slightly after writing

I tend to make my characters older than me. My MC in my main writing project is 36 and I’m almost 20. He’s more than 15 years older than me. But I love him dearly.

I also make my characters (the main characters particularly, not all the time though) the same/similar age as me, and one of my OC's or a couple of them (I've had them for 5 plus years at this point) age up with me, so yeah... every year they get a year older (I don't celebrate their birthdays, to be frank I don't know when they are, but it's just cool). And it's also fun because I have various AU's for them, and so I can picture them older or younger at any time I want, but there's this streamline one, and that's the one I follow ... most of the time. It's actually interesting because the characters are either my age/ similar age or they're like 5+ years older than myself.

Using this as motivation to write 😭

(im catching up on all ur videos so hellooo!!) i always used to make my MCs the same age as me, until I was 18, and now my characters r usually 17/18 because YA is always where my heart has been, but i definitely always did that!

Writing the same age as you currently are isn't weird, especially under 30. Afterwards you have more experiences to pull from (especially if you keep a journal) and more insight into what age means to you in terms of character development and the types of stories you can tell and relate to. I don't think it is especially limiting because there are certain things you can capture about an age while you're experiencing it that is quite compelling.

What are some tips you can give on writing?

I haven't written in years but this definitely motivated me to try this this weekend. I miss writing stories, since I graduated last year, I haven't done anything. Work and life but I'm definitely going to try this method ❤

8:23 I've actually never made my main characters the same age as me, ever since I started writing when I was nine they've always been at least three years older if not more... I think I've always wanted to be older than I am lol now I'm curious what everyone else does

I’m the same way my characters are always my age like without fail

I just finished my first draft for my dark Peter Pan retelling and I’m so excited!!!! Thank you for being one of my motivations for starting and finishing!

Literally just finished a writing sprint and gonna reward myself with watching this. Already loveeee the editing in the beginning!! Also, this is kinda making me wanna do something similar, can’t lie, I need to actually get some writing done lol. i live in canada! a lot of companies put them up to show their support during pride month and still have them up now which i think is great!💖
