    This man was a wonderful gifted musician. He wrote songs, played a number of instruments, backed up Little Richard and opened for Natalie Cole when she toured. He died tragically from a medical error. Rest in peace, dear Cat in the Hat.

    I've seen several reactions to Bobby Caldwell's What You Won't Do For Love, and this one is the first that mentions, but doesn't focus on him being white. Instead, Greg broke down the lyrics and their meaning. Big respect for Greg for mentioning the shock value, but then focusing on what the song is saying! 10/10

    Rest in peace Bobby, this song is so incredible. That hook gets me every time. He was what, 27 when he filmed this video? Bobby had a bad reaction to medication a few years ago, and I’m so relieved he’s no longer suffering. Questlove and other musicians tried to collaborate with Bobby, but he was very sick towards the end of his life. We were so blessed to have Bobby Caldwell.

    This was Bobby's biggest hit in 1978. The R&B label that recorded this left his picture off the album & most people were shocked to find out that he was white. Bobby ended up having great success writing hit songs for other artists. Sadly Bobby just passed away recently.

    After songs for his first album were recorded, executives told Caldwell they enjoyed the album, but thought it was lacking a hit. Caldwell returned to the studio for two days and wrote "What You Won't Do for Love". TK was mainly an R&B label popular among African American listeners. Executives at the label wanted to conceal the fact that Caldwell was white, so they kept his face off the album cover. When he toured with Natalie Cole to support the album, most of the audience was black and many were surprised that Caldwell was white. It was Bobby's idea to start with him in the shadows.

  • @kellyerobinson5605

    @kellyerobinson5605

    It was Bobby's idea to conceal himself not the record company. He drew the artwork himself on the album cover. Bobby was the creative force behind that concept. He didn't allow the powers that be control over him, which is probably why his music didn't get the air play that it should have. His die hard fans know his music regardless. And the younger generation is hearing it by way of their parents and grandparents. Yay!!!

    I’m 27 now Bobby was 27 when he released this classic. I feel waaaaaaay older than 27 though I’ve been through the ringer when it comes to love. I’ve been cheated on, ghosted, abandoned, almost divorced (didn’t get married yet thank Jesus), and widowed my last girlfriend unfortunately died in a car wreck. I can’t get over it so at 27 probably against my girlfriend’s wishes for my happiness I’ve decided I’ll probably die alone never knowing another love quite like hers. I also found out later that she was pregnant with my child who also obviously passed and I think I’m done. I’ve been in a daze for the past 3 months working and sleeping like a robot my mother has had to take care of me or else I won’t eat. The people around me aren’t wrong I won’t eat unless someone makes me now which I guess is a blessing in disguise since I’m losing a good amount of weight for reference 3 months ago I was 500 pounds and at 6 foot 3 inches and even with legs built like tanks it is hard on my body. I’m now at 410-415 pounds I’ve lost almost two people worth of weight. I guess depression and mourning is my diet that works. Regardless of what’s going on in my world this reaction genuinely made me laugh 👍 good job

    Definitely, I think everyone who has been after the ladies hits on a special one after a while that your instincts just tell you this is my girl and the childish games just don't feel like they're as important. It took me until 33 and I married that one, and am still married 13 years later and couldn't imagine like without her. My time given to her caused a few brothers to stop reaching out, but I chose my family and they can go the way of my childhood friends that wandered off. No big loss, I got my wife and kids now and I don't run around at all, and don't miss a bit of it. Ride or die for life once we made that promise.
